2017 NFL Week 16 Game Recaps



New England needed to win to maintain control of the number one seed in the AFC. This was a huge game for both teams.

Game Recap: BALTIMORE-Baltimore's current team welcomed their former team. The Ravens needed to win this game.


Baltimore took up 6 minutes of clock. Baltimore got a field goal and led 3-0.


Adam Vinatieri missed a field goal that was blocked. Baltimore led 3-0 after one quarter of play.


Joe Flacco threw a touchdown pass to Michael Campanaro. Baltimore led 10-0.


Frank Gore had big runs and a big 14-yard touchdown reception. That made it 10-7. Baltimore got a field goal and led 13-7 at halftime.


Vinatieri missed a 60-yard field goal. Then Baltimore got a field goal to make it 16-7. Then Vinatieri made two field goals. Baltimore led 16-13 after three quarters of play.


Joe Flacco threw a touchdown pass to Maxx Williams. Baltimore led 23-13 after a drive that lasted 7 minutes and 54 seconds.


T.Y. Hilton had his first 100 yard game in five games. Adam Vinatieri got a field goal. That made it 23-16.


Joe Flacco was the player of the game for Baltimore. Flacco went 29/38 with 237 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and no interceptions.




Minnesota Vikings 12-3-0

Green Bay Packers 7-8-0


Game Recap: GREEN BAY-Green Bay put Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve after getting eliminated from the playoffs on Monday.


Minnesota got a field goal in the first quarter. Case Keenum threw a touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs. Minnesota led 10-0 after one quarter of play.


It looked like Green Bay would score near the end of the first half. Harrison Smith intercepted Brett Hundley. Minnesota led 10-0 at halftime.


Minnesota got a field goal in the third quarter and the fourth quarter. Harrison Smith picked off Hundley again. Minnesota won 16-0 to get their first shutout in 24 years ending a 386 game drought without a shutout. Smith was my player of the gmae 8 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 10 total tackles, and 2 interceptions.




Detroit Lions 8-7-0
Versus
Cincinnati Bengals 6-9-0


Game Recap: CINCINNATI-Detroit needed to win today to remain in the wild card hunt. Could Cincinnati play spoiler?


Matthew Stafford threw a passing touchdown to tight end Eric Ebron. Detroit led 7-0 after one quarter of play.


Randy Bullock kicked two field goals in the second quarter. Detroit led 7-6 at halftime.


Detroit got a field goal in the third quarter. Detroit led 10-6. Andy Dalton threw a touchdown pass to C.J. Uzomah. Matt Prater missed a 50-yard field goal. Cincinnati led 13-10 after three quarters of play.


Randy Bullock kicked a field goal. Cincinnati led 16-10 in the fourth quarter.


Detroit reclaimed the lead ahead 17-10. Then Bullock kicked another field goal before Giovani Bernard ended Detroit's season with a rushing touchdown. Cincinnati won 26-17. Giovani Bernard was the player of the game. Giovani Bernard had 23 carries, 116 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown.




Miami Dolphins 6-9-0
Versus
Kansas City Chiefs 9-6-0


Game Recap: KANSAS CITY-Kansas City can clinch the AFC West Division with a win. They can also lock up the 4 seed with a win.


Both teams got field goals in the first quarter. The game was tied 3-3 after one quarter of play. Miami had the ball for 8 minutes and 2 seconds in the first quarter, but went 0/2 on third down conversions.


Alex Smith threw a touchdown pass to Travis Kelce. Kansas City led 10-3. Jay Cutler drove Miami downfield. Miami settled for a field goal. Kansas City led 10-6.
Kareem Hunt got a rushing touchdown to give Kansas City a 17-6 lead. Miami got a touchdown when Jay Cutler connected with Jakeem Grant. Kansas City got a last second field goal and led 20-13 at halftime. Miami went 0/4 on third down conversions in the first half. Kansas City did a great job with time of possession controlling the clock for 8 minutes and 55 seconds in the second quarter.


Kansas City got the ball to start the second half. A defensive holding penalty by T.J. McDonald kept the drive alive. Kansas City settled for a field goal and led 23-13.


Kansas City went for it on fourth and one at the Miami 19-yard line. Miami made the stop. Kansas City led 23-13 after three quarters. Kansas City had the ball for 11 minutes and 22 seconds in the third quarter. Miami was 0/5 on third down conversions through three quarters.


Kansas City got two field goals in the fourth quarter. An offensive pass interference penalty by Kenny Stills negated what would have been Miami's only third down conversion of the game. Miami ended the game with no third down conversions. Quarterback Alex Smith helped Kansas City win the AFC West and secure the 4 seed in the AFC going 25/39 with 304 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, and no interceptions. Kansas City will likely face the Baltimore Ravens as the 5 seed barring an upset by the Cincinnati Bengals in week 17.





Buffalo Bills 8-7-0
Versus
New England Patriots 12-3-0


Game Recap: NEW ENGLAND-Buffalo headed to New England hoping to play spoiler and defeat the New England Patriots. New England also needed to win this game to secure their chances at home field.


Buffalo opened this game on a strong note with a three and out defensive series. Buffalo began the game 4/4 on third down conversions. They were in a third and goal situation and did not convert. Buffalo had a similar drive like this in the first meeting against New England before Taylor threw an interception. This time Buffalo took up 8 minutes and 4 seconds of clock in the first quarter.


Tom Brady completed a third down conversion to Danny Amendola. Buffalo led 3-0 after one quarter with New England driving.


Stephen Gostkowski got a field goal to tie the game at 3-3. New England made a defensive stop. Tom Brady threw a pick 6 to Jordan Poyer. Buffalo led 10-3 following the interception by Tom Brady.


New England put together a quick scoring drive after that pick six. Tom Brady threw his 75th career touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski. That tied the game at 10-10.


New England made a defensive stop. Stephen Gostkowski got a field goal to give New England a 13-10 lead. Buffalo drove into the red zone. They failed to get two touchdown calls and had to settle for a field goal. That tied the game at 13 at halftime and many believe Kelvin Benjamin's catch on third down should have been a touchdown.


Buffalo got a field goal on their opening drive in the third quarter. Buffalo took 4 minutes and 39 seconds off the clock in the third quarter. Buffalo led 16-13 after that.


Stephen Gostkowski tied the game at 16 on New England's next drive. New England made a defensive stop. Mike Gillislee made three big plays leading up to his rushing touchdown. Some defensive penalties on Buffalo also kept the Bills from making a stop. New England led 23-16 after three quarters of play.


New England held Buffalo to a three and out. Tom Brady put together his seventh season with 30 touchdowns. New England led 30-16.


Trey Flowers forced a fumble on third down. Buffalo was stopped. Dion Lewis ran for a rushing touchdown. New England won 37-16. Running back Dion Lewis was my player of the game. Lewis had 24 carries, 129 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown. Lewis was a big reason why New England won this game.




Cleveland Browns 0-15-0
Versus
Chicago Bears 5-10-0


Game Recap: CHICAGO-Both of these teams were eliminated from the 2018 NFL Playoffs. This game featured two rookie quarterbacks in DeShone Kizer and Mitchell Trubisky.


Chicago won this game 20-3 thanks to the playmaking of cornerback Kyle Fuller who blanketed Kizer's best target. Fuller also intercepted Kizer and was my player of the game. Congrats to Cleveland on getting the number one pick in the 2018 NFL Draft though.




Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-11-0
Versus
Carolina Panthers 11-4-0


Game Recap: CAROLINA-Carolina can clinch a playoff berth with a win. Tampa Bay is just dealing with so many injuries.


Both teams traded field goals early in the first quarter. Cam Newton got injured, but returned to the game later.


Graham Gano gave Carolina a 6-3 lead in the second quarter. Carolina got a touchdown, but missed the extra point. Tampa Bay responded with back-to-back field goals. Carolina led 12-9 at halftime.


Winston threw a passing touchdown to former teammate Wilson. Tampa Bay led 16-12. Graham Gano kicked a field goal and Tampa Bay led 16-15 after three quarters of play.


Tampa Bay kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter. Cam Newton got a rushing touchdown to help Carolina win 22-19 to return to the NFL Playoffs. Cam Newton played sloppy, but stepped up when it mattered.




Atlanta Falcons 9-6-0
Versus
New Orleans Saints 11-4-0


Game Recap: NEW ORLEANS-Atlanta barely defeated New Orleans two weeks ago on Thursday Night Football. Both teams needed to win this game.


Devonta Freeman ran for a one first down. A 26-yard run was negated due to a holding penalty on left tackle Jake Matthews. Atlanta felt psychologically defeated on that drive after the penalty by Matthews and it showed.


New Orleans took up 4 minutes and 4 seconds on their opening drive and got a field goal. New Orleans led 3-0.


Atlanta had multiple penalties on their next drive. Atlanta went 0/2 on third down conversions in the first quarter. New Orleans had the ball for 8 minutes and 21 seconds in the first quarter and led 3-0 after one quarter of play.


Atlanta had three more penalties on their next drive. New Orleans had a drive that took up 8 minutes and 21 seconds in the second quarter after having the ball for that same exact amount of time in the first quarter. New Orleans settled for another field goal. New Orleans led 6-0.


Marshon Lattimore intercepted Matt Ryan. Drew Brees threw a touchdown pass to Ted Ginn Jr. Atlanta went 0/4 on third down conversions in the first half. New Orleans had the ball for 8 minutes and 57 seconds and led 13-0 at halftime.


Deion Jones intercepted Drew Brees again in the second half. Manti Te'o recovered a fumble in the third quarter.


Matt Bryant got a field goal. New Orleans led 13-3. Mark Ingram had a 26-yard rushing touchdown. New Orleans led 20-3 after three quarters of play.


New Orleans won this game 23-13. New Orleans had the ball for 10 minutes and 19 seconds. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore caught an interception with his butt. This is being known as the assception and it was the play of the year in my honest opinion.





Denver Broncos 5-10-0
Versus
Washington Redskins 7-8-0


Game Recap: WASHINGTON-Both teams were eliminated from contention. Kirk Cousins had Trent Williams and Morgan Moses both back at offensive tackle. Brock Osweiler got the start for Denver.


Denver got a field goal in the first quarter. Kirk Cousins began this game 1/8. Denver led 3-0 after one quarter of play.


Washington tied this game with a field goal. Kirk Cousins threw a touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder late in first half. Washington led 10-3 at halftime.


Washington got a field goal in the third quarter. They led 13-3 after three quarters of play. Washington won this game 27-11. Right tackle Morgan Moses did a phenomenal job neutralizing Von Miller in this game. That was one big reason Washington won this game.




Los Angeles Rams 11-4-0
Versus
Tennessee Titans 8-7-0


Game Recap: TENNESSEE-Los Angeles could clinch the NFC West Division with a win. Tennessee needed to win this game to stay in the AFC South Division.


Marcus Mariota threw an interception. Los Angeles scored a touchdown on the following series. Jared Goff threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Todd Gurley. Los Angeles missed the extra point. Los Angeles led 6-0.


Marcus Mariota completed an 18-yard pass to Corey Davis on third down. It looked like Tennessee got a touchdown, but the call got overturned. Tennessee had to settle for a field goal. Los Angeles led 6-3 after one quarter of play despite being 0/1 on third down conversions in the first quarter.


Los Angeles missed a field goal in the second quarter to expand their lead. After a defensive stop by the Rams, Tennessee followed that up with a fumble recovery for a touchdown as Wesley Woodyard recovered a Jared Goff fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Tennessee led 10-6.


Jared Goff threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Todd Gurley. Los Angeles led 13-10. Tennessee kicked a field goal. The game was tied at 13 at halftime.


A holding penalty by left tackle Andrew Whitworth kept the Rams from gaining the lead on their first drive in the second half. Jared Goff threw a touchdown pass to Sammy Watkins. Los Angeles led 20-13.


DeMarco Murray ran fora rushing touchdown. The game was tied 20-20 after three quarters of play. Tennessee had the ball for 10 minutes and 4 seconds in the third quarter. Los Angeles went 0/3 on third down conversions in the third quarter.


Ryan Succop got a field goal. Tennessee led 23-20. Jared Goff threw a fourth touchdown pass to put Los Angeles back ahead. Los Angeles led 27-23.


Los Angeles managed to pull out the win. This was mainly due to excellent defensive play in the fourth quarter. Tennessee was 0/4 on third down conversions in the fourth quarter. They could not execute when it mattered. They got to the Los Angeles Rams 43-yard line on fourth and three, but could not convert. Los Angeles won 27-23.


This win gave the Rams the NFC West Division. Quarterback Jared Goff was the player of this game. Goff went 22/38 with 301 passing yards, 4 passing touhdowns, and no interceptions. Los Angeles gets San Francisco at home before they host an opponent in the NFC Wild Card round.




Los Angeles Chargers 8-7-0
Versus
New York Jets 5-10-0


Game Recap: NEW YORK-Los Angeles needs a win to stay in the AFC Wild card hunt. New York tried to play spoiler.


Neither team scored in the first quarter. Philip Rivers threw a touchdown pass to Antonio Gates. Keenan Allen got his first career interception off of a hail mary pass. Los Angeles led 7-0 at halftime.


Los Angeles missed a field goal that would have made it 10-0. Bilal Powell ran it into the end zone. That mtied the game at 7. Melvin Gordon ran into the end zone. Los Angeles led 14-7 after three quarters and won by the final of 14-7. Quarterback Philip Rivers was my player of the game. Rivers went 22/40 with 290 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, and no interceptions.




Jacksonville Jaguars 10-5-0
Versus
San Francisco 49ers 5-10-0


Game Recap: SAN FRANCISCO-Jacksonville already secured the AFC South DIvision. A victory over Jimmy Garoppolo would help Jacksonville remain in the hunt for a first round bye. Jimmy Garoppolo headed into this game 5-0 as a starter and another win allows his former team the New England Patriots to secure a first round bye.


San Francisco got the ball first. Jimmy Garopoolo took 4 minutes and 42 seconds off the clock. San Francisco led 7-0. Jacksonville was held to a defensive stop. San Francisco got a field goal. San Francisco led 10-0 after one quarter of play and had the ball for 10 minutes and 42 econds in the first quarter.


Blake Bortles threw a pick 6. Jacksonville bocked the extra point and returned it for 2 points. San Francisco led 16-2 instead of 17-0 thanks to that play. Leonard Fournette got a rushing touchdown to make it 16-9 and Blake Bortles threw a touchdown to Jaelen Strong to tie the game at 16-16 at halftime. Jacksonville went 2/2 on third down conversions in the second quarter and had the ball for 9 minutes and 44 seconds in the second quarter.


Jacksonville got the ball to start the second half. They took 4 minutes and 3 seconds off the clock and got a field goal to lead for the first time all game 19-16. Jacksonville held San Francisco to a three and out. Blake Bortles got the ball back and threw an interception. Jimmy Garoppolo threw a touchdown on the following drive. San Francisco led 23-19. San Francisco led 23-19 after three quarters of play. Jacksonville went 0/3 on third down conversions in the third quarter after executing so well on third down conversions in the second quarter. San Francisco's defense did a great job adjusting in this area during the third quarter.


Jimmy Garoppolo began the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass to Trent Taylor. San Francisco led 30-19.


Blake Bortles threw a third interception. Carlos Hyde got a rushing touchdown to make it 37-19. San Francisco won 44-34 as Jimmy Garoppolo is now 6-0 as a starter going 2-0 in New England during Deflate Gate before improving to 4-0 with the 49ers.





Seattle Seahawks 9-6-0
Versus
Dallas Cowboys 8-7-0


Game Recap: DALLAS-Both teams were 8-6 heading into this game. Whoever lost this game was eliminated from the NFC and Dallas got Ezekiel Elliott back from his six game suspension.


Neither team scored in the first quarter. Dallas got two field goals in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead. Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham. Dan Bailey got a field goal near the end of the first half. Dallas led 9-7 at halftime.


Seattle got the ball to start the second half. Dallas made a defensive stop. Dak Prescott got the ball. He threw a pick 6. Seattle led 14-9.


Dan Bailey kicked another field goal to make it a 14-12 game. Dak Prescott threw another interception. Seattle led 14-12 after three quarters of play. Seattle had the ball for 8 minutes and 30 seconds in the third quarter while Dallas had the ball for 6 minutes and 30 seconds in the third quarter.


Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin. Seattle led 21-12 from that point. Seattle won by the score of 21-12. Russell Wilson was the player of the game going 14/21 with 93 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. Russell Wilson played turnover free football while Dak Prescott couldn't throw a single passing touchdown all game. That was the difference in this game.




New York Giants 2-13-0

Arizona Cardinals 7-8-0


Game Recap: ARIZONA-Eli Manning faced Arizona. Drew Stanton returned from his injury.


Arizona shutout New York 23-0. Larry Fitzgerald was the player of the game at wide receiver with 9 receptions, 119 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown.




Pittsburgh Steelers 12-3-0
Versus
Houston Texans 4-11-0


Game Recap: HOUSTON-Pittsburgh got Marcus Gilbert back at right tackle as well as Joe Haden back at cornerback today. They don't have Antonio Brown though.


Ben Roethlisberger did a good job getting everyone else involved on his opening drive. Pittsburgh settled for a field goal after a nice defensive stop by Houston.


Pittsburgh forced Houston to a three and out. Ben Roethlisberger threw a touchdown pass to Justin Hunter. Pittsburgh led 10-0 after one quarter of play.


T.J. Yates drove Houston downfield. He was intercepted by Pittsburgh.


Ben Roethlisberger handed it off to Roosevelt Nix. Pittsburgh ran that in for a touchdown. Pittsburgh led 17-0. T.J. Yates got sacked. Cameron Heyward with the forced fumble and Bud Dupree with the recovery. Pittsburgh got the ball back at the Houston 29-yard line. Pittsburgh got a field goal. Pittsburgh led 20-0 at halftime.


Le'Veon Bell ran it in for a rushing touchdown. Pittsburgh led 27-0 after three quarters of play.


DeAndre Hopkins made an incredible touchdown catch. Pittsburgh blocked an extra point, but Joe Haden was offsides after a defensive holding penalty leading up to Hopkins touchdown. Houston went for the two point conversion, but did not get it.


Pittsburgh won 34-6. Pittsburgh did an awesome job on both sides of the ball.


Pittsburgh's offensive line was the biggest reason Pittsburgh won. Left tackle Alejandro Villanueva, left guard B.J. Finney, center Maurkice Pouncey, right guard David DeCastro, and right tackle Marcus Gilbert all came together as a unit to protect Ben Roethlisberger and open things up for running back Le'Veon Bell. Cameron Heyward got 2 sacks in the first half and forced a fumble early in the game.




Oakland Raiders 6-9-0
Versus
Philadelphia Eagles 13-2-0


Game Recap: PHILADELPHIA-Philadelphia can lock up home field in the NFC with a win. Oakland is pretty much out of it, but can salvage a .500 season with a win.


Jay Ajayi got a rushing touchdown. Philadelphia led 7-0 after one quarter of play.


Derek Carr threw a touchdown pass to Amari Cooper. That tied the game at 7-7 at halftime. Both teams got field goals in the third quarter and it was 10-10 after three quarters of play.


It looked like Ronald Darby would get a pick 6 off of Derek Carr. Darby was down by contact. Philadelphia still rallied and managed to get a field goal though. Oakland tried a lateral, Derrick Barnett ran that fumble recovery back for a touchdown. Philadelphia won 19-10.
