Game Recap: NEW ORLEANS-New Orleans beat the Los Angeles Rams back in week 9. I picked the Rams to get revenge today. The New Orleans crowd was much louder today compared to back in week 9. Also Aqib Talib played in this game unlike in week 9 when he was injured.


Both defenses showed up in the first quarter. New Orleans dominated defensively with some three and out stops as well as an interception. New Orleans had three scoring opportunities in the first quarter getting two field goals and a passing touchdown on three red zone opportunities. New Orleans led 13-0 after one quarter of play. The Los Angeles Rams did not have a first down in the entire first quarter and this was also the first time all season where the Rams were held scoreless in the first quarter.


New Orleans made another defensive stop. The Los Angeles Rams had to punt it to the New Orleans Saints. Then the Rams called a fake punt pass which was completed to Sam Shields for a first down thanks to Johnny Hekker. Jared Goff threw a completion to Tyler Higbee. Jard Goff scrambled for a first down.


Jared Goff threw a first down to Gerald Everett. C.J. Anderson gained 8-rushing yards. A.J. Klein got injured on the tackle. Anderson gained a first down. Jared Goff threw a first down to Brandin Cooks. Los Angeles got a field goal.


Aqib Talib made a defensive stop. Los Angeles got the ball back. Los Angeles punted the football back to New Orleans.


Ndamukong Suh got the first sack of the game. He sacked Drew Brees to set up second and sixteen. Michael Brockers, Ndamukong Suh, and Dante Fowler all gang sacked Drew Brees to set up a third and long.


Todd Gurley ran it in for a rushing touchdown. New Orleans led 13-10 at halftime.


Drew Brees threw a passing touchdown to backup quarterback Taysom Hill. New Orleans led 20-10.


Los Angeles entered a first and goal situation. Ne Orleans stopped C.J. Anderson. That set up a third and goal after two defensive stops by the New Orleans Saints. Jared Goff threw a touchdown pass to tight end Tyler Higbee. New Orleans led 20-17.


Alvin Kamara fumbled the football. New Orleans recovered the fumble. New Orleans led 20-17 after three quarters of play.


Drew Brees threw a pass into coverage on third down. It looked like a penalty, but there was no call. New Orleans had to punt it to the Los Angeles Rams on fourth down.


Cameron Jordan got by right tackle Rob Havenstein. Jordan sacked Jared Goff. New Orleans made a defensive stop.


Los Angeles punted to New Orleans. The Los Angeles Rams caught Drew Brees throwing into coverage once again. Just like the last drive, the Los Angeles Rams did not intercept Drew Brees. Some sloppy throws by Brees in the fourth quarter kept the Los Angeles Rams in this game.


Jared Goff drove the Los Angeles Rams downfield. New Orleans made a defensive stop. Instead of going for it on fourth and goal, the Los Angeles Rams opted to kick a field goal. Los Angeles tied the game at 20-20 with 5:01 left in the fourth quarter.


Drew Brees threw a completion to Austin Carr who was picked up off of waiers from the New England Patriots. John Johnson tackled Mark Ingram. That set up a third down situation for the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees finally got a third down conversion in the fourth quarter. Drew Brees threw a screen pass to Alvin Kamara. Kamara ran for a first down after making the catch to keep the drive alive.


Drew Brees threw a 43-yard pass to Ted Ginn Jr. That took this game to the two minute warning.


Los Angeles adjusted defensively. Los Angeles made a defensive stop and should have been penalized on a helmet to helmet hit that was a blatant no call. New Orleans had to kick a field goal on fourth down. Will Lutz made a 31-yard field goal. New Orleans led 23-20.


Jared Goff threw a 19-yard completion to Josh Reynolds. Goff threw an incompletion with 1:12 left in the game. The Los Angeles Rams tied the game at 23-23. This game went to overtime just like the Bounty Gate game where the New Orleans Saints defeated the Minnesota Vikings.


Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints got the ball to start overtime. Drew Brees threw an interception to John Johnson.


Jared Goff put the Los Angeles Rams in field goal position. The Los Angeles Rams won 26-23 in overtime.


Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver, Brandin Cooks was my player of the game for the Los Angeles Rams. Brandin Cooks had 7 receptions for 107 receiving yards catching all 7 targets.





2. New England Patriots 13-5-0
Versus
1. Kansas City Chiefs 13-5-0


Game Recap: KANSAS CITY-Kansas City hosted their first AFC Championship Game since 1993. Unlike the week 6 meeting in Gillette Stadium, Kansas City had a healthy Justin Houston as well as a healthy Eric Berry.


Sony Michel scored a rushing touchdown on the opening drive for the New England Patriots. New England had an opening drive that lasted 8 minutes and 5 seconds. New England got the ball to start the game.


A defensive holding penalty by Jonathan Jones kept a drive alive for the Kansas City Chiefs. Kyle Van Noy sacked Patrick Mahomes for a big loss. That defensive stop gave the New England Patriots the football back.


Tom Brady began the drive by overthrowing a pass to Julian Edelman. That set up a second and ten for New England. New England gained six yards. That set up a third and four. New England was 3/3 on third down conversions on their last drive. James White made New England 4/4 on third down conversions with that run for a first down.


New England drove downfield. The Patriots put themselves in another third down situation. Julian Edelman made New England 5/5 on third down conversions. New England led 7-0 after one quarter of play.


New England entered the second quarter with a first and goal scenario. Kansas City made two consecutive defensive stops. Reggie Ragland kept New England from going 6/6 on third down conversions by intercepting Tom Brady in the end zone.


Patrick Mahomes felt pressure. He threw a pass away. Kansas City entered a third and one scenario after Travis Kelce made a big play. New England made the defensive stop. Kansas City punted it back to New England.


Tom Brady overthrew tight end Rob Gronkowski. The pass was intended for Eric Berry. New England was 5/6 on third down conversions while Kansas City was 0/2 on third down conversions. Tom Brady threw a completion to James White. New England improved to 6/7 on third down conversions. Tom Brady got Rob Gronkowski involved as Gronkowski gained 9-yards on the reception. Sony Michel ran for a first down. Kansas City made a stop on this third down conversion. New England opted to go for it on fourth and one hoping to draw the Chiefs offsides. New England failed to draw the Chiefs offsides and got a delay of game penalty as a result.


Patrick Mahomes did a shovel pitch to Travis Kelce on second and four. That set up a third and two. Kansas City was still looking for their first third down conversion of the game. Patrick Mahomes broke a tackle by throwing on the run, extended the play, and threw a completion for a first down, thus helping the Chiefs get their first third down conversion of the game. Mahomes continued his theatrics by firing a deep pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Mahomes threw a 42-yard pass to Tyreek Hill. Mahomes overthrew a pass that would have been a touchdown for Kansas City. Kansas City was in a difficult third and nine scenario. Trey Flowers got by right tackle Mitchell Schwartz on third down to sack Patrick Mahomes setting up a fourth and twenty-three. That sack took Kansas City out of field goal range and forced the Chiefs to punt it to New England.


Sony Michel ran for a first down. That first down took this game to the two minute warning.


New England entered a third and four scenario. Tom Brady threw a completion to James White. James White made another big play getting New England to the Kansas City 37-yard line. The clock stopped with 41 seconds left in the first half.


James White had a big run on the play. Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass to Philip Dorsett. New England put together an 8-play 90-yard drive. New England led 14-0 with 27 seconds left in the first half.


Kansas City got the ball. It was worth mentioning that New England out scored their opponents 49-7 in the first half. Kyle Van Noy got by left tackle Eric Fisher to force a fumble. Patrick Mahomes recovered the fumble. Kansas City had 32 yards in the first half, but the good news for Kansas City is that they would get to regroup and get the ball in the second half. New England led 14-0 at halftime.


Kansas city got the ball to start the second half. Patrick Mahomes began the second half with a completion after going 4/8 in the first half with only 65-passing yards. A run only helped the Chiefs a little bit. New England had a chance to make a defensive stop if they could stand their ground on third and two. Sammy Watkins caught a 54-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes. That big play was exactly what Kansas City needed. Patrick Mahomes followed that up with a touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce. Mahomes went 3/3 on his first drive in the second half putting together a 74-yard drive to start the second half. New England led 14-7.


Tom Brady began the second half by throwing a completion to Rex Burkhead. That completion set up a second and five. Tom Brady threw a completion to Julian Edelman. That set up a third and one. New England was 7/9 on third down conversions in the first half. Rex Burkhead ran for a first down to keep the drive alive as New England improved to 8/10 third down conversions. Tom Brady tried to throw a deep pass to Rob Gronkowski. This is the third time Tom Brady overthrew Gronkowski. Sony Michel gained 4-rushing yards on the play. That set up a third and six. Chris Jones swatted a pass. That forced New England to punt it as New England became 8/11 on third down conversions. New England began the third quarter1/2 on third down conversions while Kansas City was 1/1 on third down conversions in the third quarter.


Patrick Mahomes threw it to Travis Kelce. It looked like a fumble, but it turned out to be an incomplete pass. Lawrence Guy and John Simon gang sacked Patrick Mahomes. That set up a third and eighteen. Jason McCourty deflected that pass as Hightower pressured Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City was now 1/2 on third down conversions just like New England. Kansas City punted it back to New England.


Sony Michel ran for a gain of two rushing yards. Tom Brady threw a completion to Chris Hogan. Tom Brady has picked apart Steven Nelson today after Andrew Luck had problems with Nelson last week. New England got into Imelda goal range. Kansas City made a defensive stop, forcing New England to settle for a field goal. Stephen Gostkowski barely made a 47-yard field goal. New England led 17-7.


Patrick Mahomes was pressured. Patrick Mahomes threw it away. That quarterback hurry made it second and ten for Kansas City. New England pressured Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes took off and scrambled on the play as Patrick Chung prevented the first down with the hard hit setting up third and one. Kansas City got the first down. Mahomes threw a short pass to set up second and six. Kansas City had a third and two situation on their hands. Patrick Mahomes threw a first down to Sammy Watkins despite being pressured at the speed of sound by New England on that third down conversion. Patrick Mahomes threw another big play. Mahomes overthrew a pass to end the third quarter. New England led 17-7 after three quarters of play.


Patrick Mahomes threw an incompletion. New England was penalized with a pass interference penalty to begin the fourth quarter. New England was only called for five pass interference penalties all season. Then that play happened. Patrick Mahomes threw a touchdown pass. New England led 17-14.


Tom Brady began the drive with a first down to Julian Edelman. Anthony Hitchens stopped the running game for New England. That set up a second and ten for New England. Sony Michel ran for a first down. Sony Michel kept fighting for yards. To Brady threw another first down. New England had 21 first downs in this game while Kansas City only had 11. Sony Michel ran for a gain of three. Tom Brady threw a pass to James White setting up a third and two. Kansas City made a defensive stop setting up a fourth and one opportunity. Kansas City made a defensive stop.


Patrick Mahomes overthrew a target on second down. That set up a third and eight scenario for the Kansas City Chiefs. New England made a defensive stop on Patrick Mahomes by pressuring him. Kansas City punted the football to New England. New England looked like they muffed the punt. The officials negated a Chiefs touchdown and overturned the call by giving New England the ball back.


Sony Michel ran for a gain of two rushing yards. Daniel Sorensen intercepted a pass intended for Julian Edelman. Edelman got laid out on the play.


Patrick Mahomes fired a bullet to Sammy Watkins. That hit the ground. Patrick Mahomes threw a touchdown. Kansas City took the lead 21-17.


Tom Brady got the ball back with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter. Cordarrelle Patterson. A roughing the passer penalty by Chris Jones gave New England an automatic first down. Tom Brady handed it off to Sony Michel. That set up a second and eight. Kansas City brought fantastic coverage as Eric Berry contained Rob Gronkowski. That set up a third and eight for New England. Chris Hogan caught a pass, but Andy Reid decided to challenge it. New England got the first down and Kansas City lost a timeout. Rex Burkhead ran for a first down. Tom Brady threw a completion to Rob Gronkowski for another first down. Rex Burkhead ran for a gain of three rushing yards. New England took off a lot of time with a second and seven. Tom Brady was in a manageable third and one situation. The officials would measure and it was fourth and short with 3:50 left in the fourth quarter. Sony Michel ran it in on fourth down. New England took the lead with 3:32 left in the game. New England led 24-21 following that play.


Rob Gronkowski blocked Justin Houston. That is what set up the rushing touchdown for Sony Michel on that fourth down. There were three reviews in the fourth quarter and all of them worked in the favor of the New England Patriots.

Cordarrelle Patterson with a nice return as the two minute warning took place. Tom Brady had 1:57 to lead New England to a comeback over the Kansas City Chiefs.

That incompletion left 1:05 on the clock. Tom Brady has it at the thirty-five yard line. Tom Brady threw a completion to Chris Hogan. It got overturned and New England got their timeout back. New England entered a third and ten situation. An offsides penalty prevented a Kansas City interception. Tom Brady threw a first down to Rob Gronkowski. Rex Burkhead ran it into the end zone. Tom Brady drove New England downfield. New England led 31-28.


Kansas City had 1 timeout and 32 seconds to tie the game. Patrick Mahomes threw a completion. Kansas City took their final timeout with 23 seconds. Patrick Mahomes threw a pass that was a completion. Mahomes overthrew it. Harrison Butker kicked a field goal. That made it 31-31.


New England took a knee. This game went to overtime. This was the first AFC Championship to go to overtime since 1986. This was also the first time in NFL history where both the NFC and AFC Championship games both went to overtime in the same game.


New England got the ball to start overtime. Tom Brady threw a first down to Chris Hogan to start overtime. Kansas City stopped Rex Burkhead on the play. Justin Houston pressured Tom Brady. Julian Edelman caught a first down from Tom Brady. Kansas City put New England in another third and ten situation. Tom Brady with another first down to Julian Edelman. Tom Brady tried some trickery on first down. That did not seem to do the trick. Kansas City did well as Cordarrelle Patterson dropped a pass. New England in another third and ten situation. Tom Brady threw another third down conversion to Rob Gronkowski. Rex Burkhead got a handoff. That set up a second and goal. Rex Burkhead ran it in for a touchdown. New England won 37-31.


Sony Michel was the player of this game. Sony Michel had 29 carries, 113 rushing yards, and 2 rushing touchdowns.


New England will play the Los Angeles Rams on February 3, 2019. Exactly seventeen years after the New England Patriots won their first Super Bowl to begin their dynasty against the St. Louis Rams who won their only Super Bowl in Atlanta. New England also got their thirty seventh playoff win of all time tying the Pittsburgh Steelers for most of All Time.


New England will face the Los Angeles Rams in Atlanta. This will be a great game in two weeks between the AFC and NFC Champion. New England can get the most playoff wins of All Time and tie the Pittsburgh Steelers for six Super Bowl rings in two weeks.
