2017 Senior Bowl: Game Recap

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Posted on: 1/28/2017.

The North team took the ball first. Cooper Kupp had a 27-yard return on the kickoff. Nate Peterman got the start at quarterback for the North team. Tyus Bowser made a tackle on a screen pass. Alex Anzalone made a tackle on the screen pass at outside linebacker for the South team. The only offensive linemen that gave Peterman any time on that first drive was West Virginia center Tyler Orlosky.

Joshua Dobbs started for the South Team. Joshua Dobbs had a lot of time on his first throw thanks to Conor McDermott. O.J. Howard made a reception on his first play of the game. Donnell Pumphrey used a spin move to get by Nathan Gerry. Pumphrey got the start over Matt Dayes and Jamaal Williams. Pumphrey caught a pass out of the backfield. Evan Engram dropped an easy pass. Matt Dayes was wide open. Dayes fumbled his first carry of the game. He's probably not the second round pick I made him out to be.

Corey Clement had a pretty good run. Clement got injured on that play, but returned a few plays later. Dan Feeney did a superb job at right guard opening up some lanes. Left guard Jordan Morgan, center Tyler Orlosky, and right guard Dan Feeney all dominated as run blockers and in pass protection. The North team settled for a field goal.

Matt Dayes was motivated to prove me wrong after losing a fumble. Tarell Basham struggled to stop the run on that play. Basham may be a rotational pass rusher in the NFL. Derek Rivers abused the right tackle on the South Team. The North team led 3-0 after that interception. The North team led 3-0 after one quarter.

Dobbs got the ball back. Justin Senior finally made a good block in the second quarter. Josh Reynolds fumbled a play. Lorenzo Jerome a late addition at safety from Saint Francis had the interception Dobbs threw and recovered the fumble. Jerome made the most during this game in Mobile.

A holding penalty negated a C.J. Beathard touchdown pass to Zay Jones. Jones and Cooper Kupp were still in the game. Davis Webb threw a touchdown to Josh Reynolds. The South Team led 6-3. The South Team kicked a field goal. South Team led 9-3 at halftime.

Matt Dayes made it a 16-3 game with a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Zane Gonzalez kicked two field goals to make it 16-6 and 16-9 to end the third quarter.

Nate Peterman fumbled a snap for the North Team. Auburn defensive tackle Montravius Adams recovered the fumble to get the ball back for the South team.

Nate Peterman threw a touchdown pass to Zay Jones on fourth down. Jones lined up in the flanker. Harvey Langi intercepted a two point conversion. The South team won 16-15.

California quarterback Davis Webb was the player of the game. Davis Webb went 11/16 with 165 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, and no interceptions. No other quarterbacks on the South team threw a receiving touchdown while Dobbs and Pipkin both threw interceptions.
