2017 NFL Week 14 Game Recaps



Both Seattle and Jacksonville had wild card spots heading into this game. This was a huge game for both teams.

New Orleans Saints 9-4-0
Versus
Atlanta Falcons 8-5-0


Game Recap: ATLANTA-Neither team had their left guard. Both Andrus Peat of the New Orleans Saints and Andy Levitre of the Atlanta Falcons were inactive. That would challenge the running backs in tonights game and give them more credit when they made big plays.


Desmond Trufant returned from his concussion. He broke up a pass on third and fourteen intended for Michael Thomas. New Orleans got a field goal after having the ball for 5 minutes and 10 seconds on their opening drive. New Orleans led 3-0. Alvin Kamara left the game after getting injured on the opening drive for the Saints.


Atlanta followed up with a field goal on their opening drive. That tied the game at 3-3. It was 3-3 after one quarter of play.


Devonta Freeman got a rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Atlanta took a 10-3 lead over New Orleans.


Drew Brees threw a passing touchdown to Tommy Lee Lewis. That tied the game at 10-10.


Atlanta drove downfield. A Marshon Lattimore interception gave New Orleans the ball back with 6 seconds left in the first half. New Orleans attempted a field goal, but had no success. The game was tied 10-10 at halftime.


Matt Ryan threw an interception to Banjo to start the second half. Matt Ryan threw back-to-back interceptions after getting the ball to start the second half.


Drew Brees threw a big completion to Mark Ingram. Then left tackle Terron Armstead opened up a running lane for Mark Ingram. Drew Brees threw a touchdown to Michael Thomas on third down. New Orleans led 17-10.


Matt Ryan seemed determined to tie the game. Ryan threw a third interception to kill a third consecutive drive. New Orleans led 17-10 after three quarters of play.


Avacados From Mexico showed the score 28-3 in the commercial of a Falcons game. Matt Ryan threw a touchdown to Mohamed Sanu on the next play. That tied the game at 17. Adrian Clayborn sacked Drew Brees on third down. Atlanta got the ball back. Atlanta got a field goal. Atlanta led 20-17.


New Orleans lost some players to injuries throughout this game. New Orleans took this game to the two minute warning. It is fourth and one for New Orleans with 1 minute and 55 seconds left. New Orleans scrambled to get a first down. It was first and goal. Deion Jones made the game-winning interception.


Atlanta won 20-17. Middle linebacker Deion Jones was the player of this game. Jones had 7 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 13 total tackles, the game-winning interception, held New Orleans entire running back committee to 50 rushing yards for no rushing touchdowns, and injured Alvin Kamara and took him out of the game on the first series of the game.




Indianapolis Colts 3-10-0
Versus
Buffalo Bills 7-6-0


Game Recap: BUFFALO-Tyrod Taylor and Tre'Davious White were both out for this game. Buffalo would feature a game with Jacoby Brissett facing Nate Paterman at quarterback. Indianapolis needs to win out and have both Oakland and Baltimore lose out in order to remain in the playoff hunt.


It was snowing like crazy in Buffalo. Neither team scored in the first quarter. Nate Peterman threw a touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin. That gave Buffalo a 7-0 lead. Buffalo led 7-0 at halftime. It was 7-0 after three quarters of play.


Jacoby Brissett threw a touchdown to Jack Doyle. That made it 7-6. Indianapolis went for two and got offensive pass interference despite Doyle catching the two point conversion. Vinatieri barely made a 43-yard extra point in the freezing snow. That made it 7-7.


Nate Peterman got injured so Joe Webb came in. Indianapolis picked off Joe Webb. Adam Vinatieri missed the game-winning field goal. That would send the game to overtime.


LeSean McCoy ran it in for a touchdown. McCoy won this game. McCoy had 32 carries, 156 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown. McCoy was the biggest reason Buffalo won.




Detroit Lions 7-6-0
Versus
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-9-0


Game Recap: TAMPA BAY-Matthew Stafford has a bruised hand heading into Tampa Bay. Detroit needs this win to remain in the playoff hunt as Tampa Bay got officially eliminated on Thursday.


Both teams ran the football in the first quarter. Detroit took a 7-0 lead. Doug Martin tied it up at 7-7.


Detroit fumbled and Tampa Bay recovered. Then Tampa Bay fumbled and Detroit recovered. The game was tied 7-7 after one quarter of play. Gerald McCoy had a biceps shoulder injury and did not return to the game.


Second quarter Jameis Winston threw an interception to Darius Slay. Detroit got the ball back.


Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown pass to Golden Tate. That made it a 14-7 game. Detroit led 14-7 at halftime. Detroit got another touchdown and led 21-7 after three quarters of play.


Jameis Winston threw two passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. That tied the game at 21-21.


Matt Prater is about to line up for a 46-yard field goal. It's good. Detroit took a 24-21 lead over Tampa Bay.


Detroit won 24-21. Field cornerback Darius Slay limited Mike Evans to 2 receptions for 25 receiving yards. He also picked off Winston. Slay was a huge reason Detroit won this game. Stafford made some mistakes and Slay's big play ability blanketing Mike Evans in coverage helped Detroit win today.




Oakland Raiders 6-7-0
Versus
Kansas City Chiefs 7-6-0


Game Recap: KANSAS CITY-This game will decide who gets first place in the AFC West. Derek Carr gets Michael Crabtree back and the Chiefs don't have Marcus Peters.


Kansas City led 3-0 after one quarter of play thanks to a Travis Kelce touchdown being overturned. Kareem Hunt got the rushing touchdown and Kansas City got a field goal. Kansas City took a 13-0 on Oakland. Kansas City got another field goal. Kansas City led 16-0 at halftime.


Kansas City got the ball to start the second half. Kareem Hunt had a couple of big runs on Kansas City's opening drive. That put Kansas City in field goal range and made it a 19-0 game.


Oakland fumbled it and Kansas City recovered. Alex Smith threw an interception to Karl Joseph on the next play.


A holding penalty by Jared Cook really killed momentum for Oakland. Charcandrick West had a 13-yard rushing touchdown on Kansas City's next drive. Kansas City led 26-0 after three quarters of play despite going 0/2 on third down conversions in the third quarter. Kansas City had the ball for 8 minutes and 16 seconds in the third quarter.


Marshawn Lynch got a rushing touchdown. That made it 26-7. Oakland kicked an onside kick and got the ball back. Derek Carr threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jared Cook Jr. Oakland went for two and got it. That wasn't good enough as Derek Carr threw an interception as time expired.


Kansas City remains in first place in the AFC West. Kareem Hunt only had 9 carries versus the New York Jets. This week Hunt had 25 carries, 116 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown. Hunt was a huge reason why the Chiefs won today.





San Francisco 49ers 3-10-0
Versus
Houston Texans 4-9-0


Game Recap: HOUSTON-Jimmy Garoppolo heads back to Houston for the first time since Super Bowl 51. He's 1-0 as a starter with the 49ers and watched Brady pick apart Houston earlier in week 3.


Houston got a field goal in the first quarter. Kareem Jackson intercepted Jimmy Garoppolo, but Houstoun could not build on their momentum. Houston led 3-0 after one quarter of play. San Francisco got a field goal to tie it at 3-3.


Jimmy Garoppolo throws a few nice passes. That sets up a rushing touchdown for Carlos Hyde. San Francisco took a 10-3 lead in the second quarter.


DeAndre Hopkins got a receiving touchdown. The extra point was no good. San Francisco led 10-9. San Francisco got a field goal before halftime to take a 13-9 lead at halftime.


DeAndre Hopkins had another receiving touchdown from T.J. Yates who came in for an injured Tom Savage. Houston took aa 16-13 lead on San Francisco.


Garoppolo made some nice throws. Those completions set up a field goal. That tied the game at 16-16 in the third quarter.


Later in the third quarter, Garoppolo threw his first touchdown with the 49ers. San Francisco took a 23-16 lead. San Francisco led 23-16 after three quarters of play. San Francisco kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter to win 26-16. Jimmy Garoppolo was one of my players of the game. I think Joe Staley had a superb game at left tackle opening up running lanes for Carlos Hyde at running back and protecting Garoppolo's blindside. He deserves a lot of credit for that.




Green Bay Packers 7-6-0
Versus
Cleveland Browns 0-13-0


Game Recap: CLEVELAND-Brett Hundley VS DeShone Kizer. Oh boy, this is going to be exciting I sarcastically replied.


Brett Hundley threw a touchdown pass to give Green Bay a 7-0 lead. Cleveland tied it up after one quarter before taking the lead. DeShone Kizer began the game 11/12 with 133 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and no interceptions.


Cleveland made a defensive stop. DeShone Kizer had a chance to put Green Bay away if he continued his momentum. Kizer got a third down conversion to keep the drive alive. Then he was intercepted by Green Bay. Cleveland led Green Bay 14-7 at halftime.


Brett Hundley put together a great drive before getting stopped at the Cleveland 10-yard line. Kizer threw a touchdown pass to Corey Coleman. Cleveland led 21-7 after three quarters of play.


Jamaal Williams ran it in for a touchdown. Cleveland led 21-14.


Brett Hundley threw a touchdown pass to DaVante Adams. That tied the game at 21-21. These teams ended up going to overtime.


Cleveland got the ball first. DeShone Kizer threw the ball to Josh Jones. Jones intercepted Kizer. Brett Hundley threw a touchdown pass to Adams in overtime. Green Bay won this game 27-21.


Quarterback Brett Hundley was my player of this game. Hundley went 35/46 with 265 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. Hundley now has 9 passing touchdowns and no interceptions in his last three road games. He got Green Bay to 7-6 with Aaron Rodgers set to return next week.




Chicago Bears 4-9-0
Versus
Cincinnati Bengals 5-8-0


Game Recap: CINCINNATI-Chicago is already eliminated. Meanwhile Cincinnati is pissed about blowing a 17-3 lead to Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football.


Jordan Howard got a rushing touchdown. Chicago missed the extra point. Chicago led 6-0. Andy Dalton threw a passing touchdown to Brandon LaFell. Cincinnati led 7-6 after one quarter of play.


Chicago got two field goals in the second quarter. Chicago led 12-7 at halftime.


Mitchell Trubisky ran it in for a touchdown. Chicago led 19-7 after three quarters.


Mitchell Trubisky threw a passing touchdown to Adam Shaheen. Chicago led 26-7.


Jordan Howard got another rushing touchdown. Chicago won 33-7. Jordan Howard was my player of the game. Howard had 23 carries, 147 rushing yards, and 2 rushing touchdowns in the win for Chicago.




Minnesota Vikings 10-3-0
Versus
Carolina Panthers 9-4-0


Game Recap: CAROLINA-Minnesota faces Carolina. Ryan Kalil returned for the first time since week 1. This is probably one of the early games that shapes the NFL Playoff Picture with many of the exciting games being later in the afternoon today.


Minnesota got the ball to start the game. Case Keenum threw an interception to Daryl Worley who broke apart a pass from Adam Thielen.


Jonathan Stewart blasted past Minnesota on a 60-yard run. Carolina took a 7-0 lead.


Case Keenum threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph. That tied the game at 7. It was 7-7 after one quarter of play.


Stewart scored again. Jonathan Stewart helped Carolina orchestrate a drive that lasted 7 minutes and 12 seconds. Carolina took a 14-7 lead.


Minnesota got two field goals in the second quarter. Carolina led 14-13 at halftime.


Cam Newton threw a touchdown pass to Devin Funchess. Carolina led 21-13 following that play.


Graham Gano made a field goal. Carolina led 24-13 after three quarters of play. Carolina had the ball for 9 minutes and 39 seconds in the third quarter.


Case Keenum threw a touchdown pass to Adam Thielen and Minnesota got a two point conversion to make it 24-21 before getting a field goal to tie the game at 24-24.


Jonathan Stewart got a rushing touchdown. Carolina won this game 31-24. Jonathan Stewart was the biggest reason Carolina won on offense with 16 carries, 103 rushing yards, and 3 rushing touchdowns. Luke Kuechly was my player of the game as he delivered at middle linebacker once again with 8 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 14 total tackles, and 1 sack.





Washington Redskins 5-8-0
Versus
Los Angeles Chargers 7-6-0


Game Recap: LOS ANGELES-Los Angeles has a great pass rushing tandem with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. I expect this tandem to stand out on tape.


Rivers threw a completion. That set up a field goal which made it a 3-0 Los Angeles.


Rivers threw a touchdown pass to Hunter Henry. Los Angeles led 10-0. Los Angeles got a field goal. Los Angeles led 13-0 after one quarter of play.


Kirk Cousins threw a touchdown pass to Vernon Davis. Washington's extra point was no good. Los Angeles led 13-6 after that drive by Cousins.


Philip Rivers threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Tyrell Williams. Los Angeles took a 20-6 lead. Los Angeles got a field goal. Los Angeles led 23-6 at halftime.

Denver Broncos 4-9-0


Game Recap: DENVER-New York has a shot at making the playoffs. You can't say the same about Denver. Two defensive backs coaches turned head coaches in Todd Bowles and Vance Joseph faced off.


Brandon McManus got a field goal. Denver took a 3-0 lead.


Adam Gotsis stripped a fumble and got the ball back. Siemian threw a touchdown to Demaryius Thomas. Denver took a 10-0 lead. Denver led 10-0 after one quarter of play.


Denver got a field goal. Denver led 13-0 at halftime.


Andy Janovich gets a rushing touchdown. Denver took a 20-0 lead. Denver led 20-0 after three quarters of play.


Denver got a field goal in the fourth quarter. Denver won 23-0 thanks to quarterback Trevor Siemian and their defense. Siemian went 19/31 with 200 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, and no interception. All 11 guys on Denver's defense deserve major credit for getting to Josh McCown.




Tennessee Titans 8-5-0

Arizona Cardinals 6-7-0


Game Recap: ARIZONA-Tennessee faced Arizona. Both teams needed to win this game.


Neither team scored in the first quarter. Derrick Henry got a rushing touchdown. That was the only score of the first half. Tennessee led 7-0 at halftime.


Ryan Succop missed a 58-yard field goal in the third quarter. Phil Dawson made two field goals. Tennessee led 7-6 after three quarters of play.


Arizona got two field goals. Arizona won 12-7. My player of the game was Larry Fitzgerald because he passed Randy Moss for third all time in receiving yards.




Dallas Cowboys 7-6-0
Versus
New York Giants 2-11-0


Game Recap: NEW YORK-This was New York's first game without Ben McAdoo. Dallas needed to win this game to remain in the NFC Playoff Hunt.


Dallas got a field goal in the first quarter. That was the only score in the first quarter. Dallas led 3-0 after one quarter of play.


Dan Bailey missed a 53-yard field goal. Eli Manning threw a touchdown that gave New York the lead. New York led 7-3.


Dak Prescott threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant. Dallas led 10-7. New York got a field goal. The game was tied 10-10 at halftime.


Neither team scored in the third quarter. Dak Prescott completed a 54-yard pass to Cole Beasley and then a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten. Dallas led 17-10.


Dallas got another touchdown. They missed the extra point. Dallas led 23-10. Sean Lee got a game-sealing interception. Dallas got another touchdown and won 30-10.


Dallas won this game due to two players. On offense their player of the game was quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott was 20/30 with 332 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. Middle Linebacker Sean Lee had 10 solo tackles, 8 assisted tackles, 18 total tackles, 1 interception, and 1 deflection for a pass breakup in his return after missing the past three games with Dallas.





Philadelphia Eagles 11-2-0
Versus
Los Angeles Rams 9-4-0


Game Recap: LOS ANGELES-Carson Wentz faced off with Jared Goff. It was number one versus number two in the NFL draft.


Philadelphia got the ball to start the game. Carson Wentz threw an interception to Kayvon Webster. Los Angeles got great field position.


Todd Gurley smashes it into the end zone. Los Angeles led 7-0.


Jay Ajayi got a third down conversion by running the football. A defensive pass interference penalty by Alec Ogletree really killed momentum for Los Angeles. Carson Wentz threw a touchdown pass to Brent Celek. That tied the game at 7-7.


Carson Wentz threw a second touchdown pass. Philadelphia led 14-7 after one quarter of play. Philadelphia had the ball for 9 minutes and 45 seconds in the first quarter of play. The Los Angeles Rams were also 0/2 on third down conversions in the first quarter of play.


Carson Wentz threw a third passing touchdown in this game. Philadelphia led 21-7 in the second quarter.


Jared Goff got two third down conversions on the next drive. He threw both completions to Cooper Kupp. One resulted in a touchdown which made it a 21-14 game. Philadelphia led 21-14.


Jake Elliott kicked a field goal right before halftime. Philadelphia led 24-14 at halftime. Philadelphia had the ball for 9 minutes and 33 seconds in the second quarter winning time of possession once again early in the game.


The Rams got the ball to start the second half. Jared Goff threw a passing touchdown to Sammy Watkins. Philadelphia led 24-21 in the third quarter. Los Angeles finally reclaimed the lead when the blocked a punt off of Philadelphia. That made it a 28-24 game.


Carson Wentz got injured on the next drive. He finished it off with a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffrey. Philadelphia led 31-28 after three quarters of play. Philadelphia had the ball for 9 minutes and 21 seconds in the third quarter.


Todd Gurley had a rushing touchdown. Los Angeles led 35-31.


Nick Foles entered the game in relief of Carson Wentz. He led Philadelphia downfield for two field goal drives. Los Angeles had time for one play, but it was a fumble recovered by Brandon Graham for a touchdown. Philadelphia won 43-35 to claim the NFC East with Carson Wentz rebounding after that early interception. Wentz may have torn his ACL so this is a rough loss for Philadelphia if Wentz is out for any significant time.




Seattle Seahawks 8-5-0
Versus
Jacksonville Jaguars 9-4-0


Game Recap: JACKSONVILLE-Russell Wilson faced the NFL's best defense. This was a huge game for both teams.


Josh Lambo got the only score of the first quarter with a field goal. Jacksonville led 3-0 after one quarter of play. Jacksonville had the ball for 9 minutes and 2 seconds in the first quarter. Neither team scored in the second quarter. Jacksonville led 3-0 at halftime.


Seattle got the ball to start the second half. Russell Wilson was intercepted by A.J. Bouye. Jacksonville got the ball back. Blake Bortles threw a touchdown pass to Dede Westbrook. Jacksonville led 10-0.


Seattle got a field goal. Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin. That tied the game at 10-10. Blake Bortles threw a touchdown on his very first play of offense on the next drive following the Seattle touchdown. Jacksonville led 17-10.


Leonard Fournette got a rushing touchdown. Jacksonville led 24-10 after three quarters of play.


Jacksonville got a field goal. They took a 27-10 lead over Seattle.


Russell Wilson threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Paul Richardson. Jacksonville led 27-17.


Josh Lambo got a field goal to make it a 30-17 game. Russell Wilson threw another touchdown, but it didn't matter. Jacksonville won this game 30-24 to take control of first place.


Leonard Fournette was my player of the game. Fournette had 24 carries, 101 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown. Fournette was a huge reason Jacksonville improved to 9-4.




Baltimore Ravens 7-6-0
Versus
Pittsburgh Steelers 11-2-0


Game Recap: PITTSBURGH-Baltimore faced Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh can wrap up the AFC North with a win tonight.


This game came right down to the wire. Pittsburgh won and it was mainly due to a fantastic game from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Ben Roethlisberger went 44/64 with 506 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. Pittsburgh clinched the AFC South as well as a top 3 seed with New England and Jacksonville as the only teams that can keep them from home field in the AFC. With New England as Pittsburgh's week 15 opponent, the winner of that will most likely get home field with the other team getting the 2 seed.



New England Patriots 10-3-0
Versus
Miami Dolphins 6-7-0


Game Recap: MIAMI-New England got Chris Hogan back. Rob Gronkowski was suspended.


Miami had a great opening drive. They kept New England off the field for 6 minutes and got a field goal on their opening drive against a New England defense that was extremely depleted outside of their secondary.


Tom Brady threw an interception to Xavien Howard. That interception gave Miami the ball back. Miami got the ball back and got another field goal to make it 6-0. New England only had the ball for 46 seconds and had 0 yards with 3:49 left in the first quarter.


Miami made another defensive stop even with Cordrea Tankersley out of the lineup. New England punted and Miami got the ball back.


Miami led 6-0 after one quarter. Tom Brady began 0/4 in the first quarter with a pick.


New England finally got some positive yards on Miami and got some first downs. Miami still amde another stop and kept their lead in tact.


Devin McCourty, New Englands' free safety lined up as a strong safety on a blitz. He sacked Jay Cutler to set up third and eighteen. Brady got the ball back and after going 0/4 in the first quarter he's 4/4 since with 22 passing yards.


Dion Lewis made an awesome catch. Those big plays and penalties by Miami gave New England excellent field position. Rex Burkhead got a rushing touchdown and that gave New England a 7-6 lead over Miami.


Kenyan Drake made some big plays. Jarvis Landry got a receiving touchdown. Miami led 13-7.


Tom Brady drove New England downfield. Stephen Gostkowski got another field goal. Miami led 13-10 at halftime.


New England got the ball to start the second half. Tom Brady got sacked by Jordan Phillips. Then he threw another interception to Xavien Howard.


Jay Cutler threw a touchdown to Jakeem Grant. Miami took a 20-10 lead.


Xavien Howard made another third down deflection. Miami led 20-10.


Jarvis Landry caught another receiving touchdown. Miami took a 27-10 lead on New England.


Miami made another defensive stop. New England is now 0/7 on third down conversions.


New England got great field position to end the third quarter. Tom Brady ended the third quarter with a completion to Danny Amendola. Miami led 27-10 after three quarters of play.


Tom Brady finally threw a touchdown pass. Miami led 27-17 following that play.


New England made a stop. Ndamukong Suh sacked Tom Brady on third down to make New England 0/8 on third down conversions. New England got stopped again to be 0/9 on third down conversions.
