Super Bowl 50 is here we have the teams right in front of faces. The Denver Broncos led by the veteran quarterback Peyton Manning the potent gun slinger is probably ready to ride his last horse and retire his saddle, but before he does he wants to go out style with a big bang and I mean literally. The former first pick overall out Tennessee wants to be known as one of the greatest NFL passers of All-time. In reality this season he really played consistent but it was defense that kept the Broncos from scoring led by veterans like Von Miller and Aqib Talib.
This time the Broncos don't have an easy task entering Sunday's game. They take on the Carolina Panthers the 17-1 team that only is getting better and more comfortable and gaining confidence each game. The unit drives on character and commodery stronger than I have seen any football team in a very long time. They are simply not only fun to watch but they even make it more enjoyable because you know that they are having fun too, and in reality when a team in the NFL loves what they are bringing to the stage as a unit, and shows it, that makes them ever so powerful.
Lots of critics dismissed the Panthers at the beginning of the year after wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin went on injured reserve. A ton of critics wrote off the Panthers since Benjamin was their deep threat and red zone threat. Guys like Ted Ginn Jr. and Corey Brown stepped up though.
One of the boldest things Carolina did was trading for 4-3 right end Jared Allen. Allen was great during the regular season when 4-3 left end Charles Johnson was injured. Johnson returned in December and it appeared as though both of Carolina's defensive ends would be healthy for the NFL Playoffs.
Jared Allen played against the Seahawks, but was placed on injured reserve following the game against Seattle. Now Carolina has to win one more game without Allen as their start pass rusher. The sack master known as Jared Allen had 136 career sacks over his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers after emerging out of Idaho State.
The coaching matchup has to intrigue you. Ron Rivera was on the brink of getting fired following his second season with the Carolina Panthers. He helped the Panthers secure a first round bye before a home loss to the 49ers. Then Rivera won a playoff game with a 7-9 team after he was on the brink of being let go for a second time in three years. In the 2015 offseason, Rivera finally stopped caring what the front office thought as Panthers owner Jerry Richardson told Rivera to take full control of this team.
Rivera was a linebacker on the 85 Bears. Gary Kubiak was a backup to John Elway on the Super Bowl teams that Elway was a quarterback on in Super Bowl 32 and Super Bowl 33. Ironically enough here we are 18 years later since Elway guided the Broncos to their first Super Bowl win. Elway is now GM, Kubiak is now HC, Peyton Manning is now their quarterback, and Mike Shanahan who was the head coach when Elway won his two Super Bowls at quarterback has to watch this game in a man cave in the Rocky Mountains.
Kubiak's offensive genius will be tested against Ron Rivera a defensive mastermind. Kubiak also has to deal with Rivera's understudy defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, who was a head coaching candidate for 2016 if the Panthers lost to Seattle.
Wade Phillips is gonna send the hounds known as Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware at Carolina's offense. Carolina couldn't be a factor without their team leader, quarterback Cam Newton. He is a great passer, and also a incredible mobile quarterback better known as Superman to his fans. Newton was also first overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out Auburn just like Peyton Manning who went first overall in 1998 out of Tennessee.
Of course Newton needs weapons around him to make things happen and he has those playmakers. He has one of the best tight ends in the business Greg Olsen that has solid hands and Mike Tolbert coming out the backfield, but know one is more dangerous than some his teammates on the opposite side field on defense. This part of the Carolina unit is led by Luke Kuechly the sack master at middle linebacker who is hands down the top linebacker in the entire NFL, and yes Manning watch out. Know getting around that will be a challenge.
Okay, let's get back to the game itself. The Broncos will come out all gunho but before you know it by middle of the second quarter the Panthers defense will take over and Manning just won't be the same. He will get pushed and knocked a few times before the half ends. At half it will seem rather tight, but the Panthers just started my halftime prediction is 17-10.
In the second half its now time for Cam and company to go to work. Bringing more confidence to the Panthers defense as well. Just imagine all the fun their having. I don't want to give you all the details but. Cam Newton will be the MVP and the Panthers will win 38-16.
