2020 NFL Draft Results

Round 5

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is the best player on my board and only top 50 player left on my board in the fifth round.

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: April 25, 2020.

  1. Cincinnati Bengals: Khalid Kareem, LE, Notre Dame C Grade

Cincinnati has Sam Hubbard and Carlos Dunlap. Kareem is a good depth player, but the fact that the Bengals ignored offensive line and cornerback depth is irresponsible.

  2. Seattle Seahawks: Alton Robinson, LE, Syracuse A+ Grade

Alton Robinson played 4-3 left end next to Kendall Coleman at Syracuse. He showed the versatility and skill set to play both 4-3 right end and 4-3 left end in Mobile getting by left tackles in practice.

The 6-3 259 lb Alton Robinson had 17 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks when he was only 249 lbs in 2018. He put on more muscle and added 10 lbs, but regressed with only 9.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks in 2019.

Alton Robinson played more like the 2018 pass rusher that wowed people in Mobile than the 2019 pass rusher that took a step back. He is the best pass rusher that Seattle can get in this draft that may be an immediate starter at this point. Seattle did not really do anything to get a guy who could replace Clowney and Alton Robinson may be the best fit at this point.

  3. Indianapolis Colts: Danny Pinter, RG, Ball State F Grade

This was a huge reach by the Colts. This pick warrants an F grade.

  4. New York Giants: Shane Lemieux, LG, Oregon A+ Grade

The 6-4 310 lb Shane Lemieux has the pass blocking, run blocking, zone blocking, pass blocking footwork, run blocking footwork, pass blocking strength, and run blocking strength to be a starting left guard in the NFL. He is good in these areas, but not great in these areas and can become great with the right team. New York has Will Hernandez at left guard, but to get someone as skilled and talented as Shane Lemieux for depth is a great value pick.

I posted a film cut of Oregon's offensive line versus Auburn. Lemieux did well in this game and dominated the 2019 PAC 12 Championship Game.

  5. Los Angeles Chargers: Joe Reed, WR, Virginia C Grade

The Chargers needed a slot receiver. There were better options on the board, but this is a solid pick.

  6. Carolina Panthers: Kenny Robinson, SS, West Virginia F Grade

Kenny Robinson wasn't even on my big board. This is an F grade.

  7. San Francisco 49ers: Colton McKivitz, RT, West Virginia B Grade

San Francisco had Joe Staley as the starting left tackle and Mike McGlinchey as the starting right tackle. San Francisco traded a pick to Washington for left tackle Trent Williams as a backup to Staley. Now they get a backup to McGlinchey at right tackle with McKivitz.

The 6-6 302 lb Colton McKivitz would make a good backup to Mike McGlinchey at right tackle. McKivitz was a four year starter at West Virginia where he protected for Will Grier.

  8. Miami Dolphins: Jason Strowbridge, 3-4 RE, North Carolina A+ Grade

The 6-4 275 lb Jason Strowbridge is a player that can have a similar role that Sheldon Day had while he was in Jacksonville. I thought he did better than Sheldon Day so for Miami to get him for depth this late is a great pick.

  9. Chicago Bears: Trevis Gipson, 3-4 ROLB, Tulsa C Grade

I like Gipson. To pass on both Jake Fromm and Curtis Weaver, the only two players with second round grades on my board.

The 6-3 259 lb Trevis Gipson had 15 tackles for a loss and 8 sacks in 2019. Chicago gets him for depth as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

  10. Washington Redskins: Keith Ismael, C, San Diego State B+ Grade

The 6-3 300 lb Keith Ismael is versatile enough to play left guard, center, or right guard with his versatility. There were four centers with the upside to develop into future starters left in this draft and Ismael was the one I had the lowest grade on, but he's good enough to develop into a starter. Washington gets him as a backup to Chase Roullier even though there were better centers on the board.

  11. Jacksonville Jaguars: Daniel Thomas, SS, Auburn D Grade

Daniel Thomas was not on my board. He had 199 career tackles and Jacksonville needed a safety. That's the only reason I am being so merciful by sparing Jacksonville with a D grade since they need someone next to Lonnie Harrison.

  12. New York Jets: Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia A+ Grade

New York finally drafted a number one field cornerback. Bryce Hall was considered a blue chip prospect at cornerback heading into the season before his season ending injury, but has the upside to replace Trumaine Johnson if he's healthy.

The 6-1 202 lb Bryce Hall had the man coverage, zone coverage, and press coverage of a first round cornerback last year in 2018 when he had 22 deflections from pass breakups. Hall only had 4 deflections in 2019 before a season ending injury.

Bryce Hall did well against Notre Dame despite not having any deflections in this game. I posted a film cut of Bryce Hall VS Notre Dame.

  13. New England Patriots: Justin Rohrwasser, K, Marshall D Grade

New England passed on the two kickers in the 2020 Senior Bowl and Stanford kicker Jett Toner who were my only three kickers in my top 300 for Justin Rohrwasser out of Marshall after moving on from Stephen Gostkowski.

Justin Rohrwasser went 35/36 on extra points and 18/21 on field goal attempts with a 50-yard field goal and 53-yard field goal in his bowl game being the longest of the season. I had a higher grade on Rodrigo Blankenship, but both of the kickers in the Senior Bowl missed 60-yard field goal attempts despite making them from 50-yards. That may have repulsed Belichick, to the point where he went with this Marshall kicker in hopes of getting a Marsall Magic Kid at the kicker position.

To make matters worse Jake Fromm and Curtis Weaver were there. To make matters even more worse is that these two guys ended up on AFC East teams because Belichick picked a fucking kicker in the fifth round when you got four sixth round draft picks.

Unless New England is gonna start Stidham and take Trevor Lawrence if Stidham is awful, then I don't understand what they are doing. I will probably mock Trevor Lawrence to New England in my first 2021 NFL Mock Draft in over a year with Jacksonville getting Justin Fields.

  14. Cleveland Browns: Nick Harris, C, Washington A+ Grade

Cleveland got the top center on my board. They can use him as a backup for depth behind J.C. Tretter.

Nick Harris is a four year starter with the pass blocking, run blocking, and zone blocking you want from a center. His pass blocking footwork and run blocking footwork is there. You would like to see him get stronger, but he can maintain blocks for 5-7 seconds like Trey Adams on tape despite his size and body frame.

Click this Nick Harris Interview to hear a press conference featuring the four year starting center for the Washington Huskies.

  15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tyler Johnson, WR, Minnesota A+ Grade

Tampa Bay has three very good receivers with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Justin Watson when Winston was there. Now they get another receiver in Tyler Johnson, the top receiver left on the board to play with Tom Brady.

Tampa Bay getting a great receiver for depth here. The 6-1 206 lb Tyler Johnson set single season records for receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns on Minnesota.

Tyler Johnson had 86 receptions, 1,318 receiving yards, and 13 receiving touchdowns in 2019. Tyler Johnson finished his career second All Time in Minnesota history with 213 career receptions, 3,305 receiving yards first all time in Golden Gopher history, and 33 receiving touchdowns first all time.

Tyler Johnson torched Auburn with 204 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns going on to be Outback Bowl MVP. He also had 36 consecutive games with a reception. Even though some scouts are concerned about his attitude which is one reason why he was not in Mobile, his talent on tape is too good to look past. He did not do the 40-time or the bench press at the 2020 NFL Combine. While this would concern some teams, especially a team that is as high on character, you are getting a top 70 player if you look past the attitude so great pick by Tampa Bay getting this guy for depth at wide receiver.

  16. Washington Redskins: Khaleke Hudson, FS, Michigan C Grade

Michigan's safeties Josh Mettellus and Khaleke Hudson are versatile enough to play safety or linebacker. I see both as backups though and I got Mettellus graded higher.

  17. Chicago Bears: Kindle Vildor, CB, Georgia Southern A Grade

Chicago gets a nickel cornerback to compliment Kyle Fuller and Jaylon Johnson. Chiago does a great job getting a nickel cornerback for depth.

he 5-10 185 lb Kindle Vildor is the best cornerback on the board. His 4.44 40-time was good too. Vildor did not make a strong impression in Mobile in my honest opinion, but he also struggled on tape against LSU and Minnesota who both had good wide receivers after getting 11 deflections from pass breakups and intercepting a pass intended for Tee Higgins in 2018. Vildor's best game in 2019 was against Liberty where he faced wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden getting 2 deflections from pass breakups along with an interception.

  18. Miami Dolphins: Curtis Weaver, 3-4 ROLB, Boise State A+ Grade

Getting the 6-2 265 lb Curtis Weaver who can play 4-3 right end as well as 3-4 right outside linebacker is a good pick for Miami. Curtis Weaver will play with Raekwon McMillan, Elandon Roberts, and Kyle Van Noy.

Curtis Weaver is one of the most consistent pass rushers in this class. He had 13 tackles for a loss and 11 sacks in 2017 after redshirting. That's what got Weaver on my radar as a dark horse first round pick for the 2019 NFL Draft heading into the 2018 season. Weaver had 15 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks in 2018 before he returned to school. Weaver had 18.5 tackles for a loss and 13.5 sacks in 2019 and Trey Adams sat out of the Las Vegas Bowl.

  19. Jacksonville Jaguars: Collin Johnson, WR, Texas A Grade

Jacksonville has Laviska Shenault Jr., D.J. Chark, and Dede Westbrook. Depth at wide receiver was needed at wide receiver in case someone gets injured.

Collin Johnson had a spectacular junior season in 2018. He even picked apart DeAndre Baker in the Sugar Bowl win that Texas got against Georgia. He got 101 receiving yards agaisnt a TCU defense led by Jeff Gladney in 2019. His small hands 8 3/4 are a concern, but his size, route running, catching, and jumping make him a home run threat despite not having ideal speed for a big body receiver.

  20. Detroit Lions: Quinton Cephus, WR, Wisconsin C Grade

Detroit grabs a wide receiver for depth here with Kenny Golloday, Marvin Jones, and Danny Amendola in contract years. The 6-1 202 lb Quinton Cephus is a guy I mocked to the Bengals in the seventh round and he also has some off the field concerns. Jason Bantle took him in the sixth round of our group mock with the Bengals.

  21. Buffalo Bills: Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia A+ Grade

Jake Fromm was my only player with a second round grade on the board. Fromm is a perfect backup to Josh Allen. I had Fromm as my fourth best quarterback with an 89 potential grade same grade I gave Jordan Love who went to Green Bay at 26.

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm has the leadership and attitude you want in a quarterback. He's the oldest sibling in his family. He has good decision making and accuracy. Fromm never threw for more than 3,000 passing yards at Georgia despite being a five star recruit in High School. His 60.8 completion percentage in 2019 is a career low, but his 24 passing touchdowns and 5 interceptions were extremely impressive for a game manager.

The 6-2 219 lb Fromm has the leadership, attitude, short accuracy, and medium accuracy that you want. His deep ball accuracy got better down the stretch. Fromm is talented, but he is 1-2 in SEC Championship Games.

Jake Fromm did well versus Notre Dame. I posted a film cut of Fromm versus Notre Dame.

  22. Philadelphia Eagles: John Hightower, WR, Boise State A- Grade

The 6-1 189 lb John Hightower was one of the best players at the 2020 East West Shrine Game with his speed, route running, hands, and jumping ability. Hightower ran a 4.43 40-time at the 2020 NFL Combine and looked better in the Shrine Game than half of the receivers I saw in person in Mobile which is why I have Hightower slotted here.

  23. Minnesota Vikings: Harrison Hand, CB, Temple C+ Grade

Temple produces good corners. Harrison Hand was my top corner on the board in the seventh round and Minnesota already drafted two good corners so Hand is gonna be competing for a backup spot.

  24. Baltimore Ravens: Broderick Washington Jr., NT, Texas Tech B- Grade

Baltimore needed a nose tackle for depth even though this guy wasn't on my board. He was the most durable Red Raiders player outside of Jordyn Brooks which is why I'm optimistic about this pick since he played every game with Texas Tech.

  25. Houston Texans: Isaiah Coulter, WR, Rhode Island B- Grade

Houston gets a weapon. Isaiah Coulter ran a better 40-time than teammate Aaron Paker. Both Rhode Island Rams have great game speed when you watch their film.

  26. Detroit Lions: Jason Huntley, RB, New Mexico State F Grade

So the Lions are taking a second running back over a right tackle after Ricky Wagner signed with Green Bay. Ok then looks like I have to give the Lions an F grade after they did really well in the first four rounds of this draft.

  27. Chicago Bears: Darnell Mooney, WR, Tulane A+ Grade

The 5-10 176 lb Darnell Mooney ran a 4.38 40-time at the 2020 NFL Combine. He also had a great game on film against Auburn and is one my dark horse players to sneak into the third round. Mooney gives the Chicago Bears a slot receiver, but I can see him playing special teams too like Devin Hester.

  28. Tennessee Titans: Larrell Murchison, 3-4 LE, North Carolina State A Grade

The Titans got Jurrell Casey's replacement here. That's what I'm looking at with this pick more than anything else.

  29. Green Bay Packers: Kamal Martin, 3-4 LOLB, Minnesota F Grade

Green Bay passed on Evan Weaver for Kamal Martin. By the way, I believe Carter Coughlin is Minnesota's best linebacker so I am giving this an F grade.

  30. Minnesota Vikings: K.J. Osborn, WR, Miami FL C Grade

The Vikings get a guy that I had a seventh round grade on. K.J. Osborn was Miami's best receiver and he had a good 40-time.

  31. Kansas City Chiefs: Michael Danna, RE, Michigan X Grade

Kansas City reached here. They have 22 starters on the roster. After previously giving this team a question mark grade like this?. They end up getting an X grade.

  32. Denver Broncos: Justin Strnad, 3-4 MLB, Wake Forest F Grade

Denver got this compensation pick at 178 thanks to Billy Turner signing with the Green Bay Packers.

Denver grabs a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth. I didn't have Strnad on my board and it felt like there were better options.

  33. Dallas Cowboys: Bradlee Anae, RE, Utah A+ Grade

Dallas got this compensation pick at 179 thanks to Cole Beasley signing with the Buffalo Bills.

Dallas gets their replacement to Jadeveon Clowney here. Bradlee Anae is a 6-3 257 lb defensive end that did well in Mobile. Anae had 14 tackles for a loss and 13 sacks while dominating against Austin Jackson on tape despite having no quarterback hurries.

Dallas is a team that needs a pass rusher off the edge at some point. I had a second round grade on Anae, but he slipped to the third round because I was hell bent on putting Anae on a 4-3 team. Dallas gets Anae as a 4-3 right end since that was one of their needs.

Click this Bradlee Anae Interview to hear a press conference featuring the Utah's pass rusher who can play off the edge against left tackles in a 4-3 or a 3-4.
