Morgan Epstein grades the New York Jets 2016 NFL Draft. Does New York have a bright future after drafting Darron Lee with the twentieth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?
20. Darron Lee, 3-4 MLB, Ohio State D Grade
Right now Darron Lee is a third string 3-4 middle linebacker. He could not cover to save face at Ohio State despite his deadly 4.43 40 time. Lee is a classic example of a workout warrior that got pushed up the boards. I went to Ohio State and saw sloppy tape from Darron Lee. I think Joshua Perry and Raekwon McMillan are both better linebackers. I'm up in arms over this pick.
51. Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State F Grade
If there was one quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft that was a warm body it was Christian Hackenberg. Hackenberg is currently listed as a third string quarterback behind a guy that gave Fantasy Football advice on NFL Network when injured and a guy who got cussed at by Jon Gruden.
The Jets need to draft a quarterback in the first round of next years draft. With Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg on the team the Jets, won't even consider a quarterback until 2018 and that's if the Jets somehow manage to land Josh Rosen.
83. Jordan Jenkins, 3-4 ROLB, Georgia C- Grade
Jordan Jenkins was a 3-4 left outside linebacker at Georgia. Jenkins will be a backup 3-4 right outside linebacker on the New York Jets and I have hesitations about that.
118. Juston Burris, CB, North Carolina State F Grade
Juston Burris is the #8 cornerback on the Jets depth chart. He's okay in coverage, but terrible against the run.
158. Brandon Shell, RT, South Carolina F Grade
Brandon Shell is a third string right tackle.
235. Lac Edwards, P, Sam Houston State C Grade
Lac Edwards wasn't a top 5 punter in this years draft. He's the only starter the Jets drafted so I'll give them a generous C grade.
241. Charone Peak, WR, Clemson F Grade
Charone Peak is the #9 receiver on the Jets depth chart. He's a backup at best.
New York Jets Team Grade: F Grade
The New York Jets had the worst draft among every NFL team. It's easy to see why Ryan Fitzpatrick wants more money than he's bargaining for.
