Morgan Epstein grades the Kansas City Chiefs 2016 NFL Draft. Does Kansas City have a bright future after drafting Chris Jones with the thirty seventh pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?
37. Chris Jones, 3-4 RE, Mississippi State C Grade
Chris Jones is a backup 3-4 right end on Kansas City's depth chart. He'd be graded much higher if he was starting next to Allen Bailey at 3-4 left end.
74. KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame D- Grade
KeiVarae Russell is competing with the Chiefs next draft pick for the #5 quarter cornerback job. Kansas City has Marcus Peters at field cornerback, Jameel Flemming at boundary cornerback, Steven Nelson at nickel cornerback, and Phillip Gaines at dime cornerback. With all that depth at cornerback Russell and the Chiefs fourth round draft pick at cornerback have to compete for the #5 cornerback job.
105. Parker Ehinger, LG, Cincinnati C- Grade
Parker Ehinger played right guard at Cincinnati. Kansas City drafted Ehinger as a backup left guard which is why this pick got a C- grade.
106. Eric Murray, CB, Minnesota D Grade
Eric Murray is competing with Russell for the quarter cornerback job. Murray may end up being the #5 corner its a very close battle.
135. Demarcus Robinson, WR, Florida F Grade
DeMarcus Robinson is the #7 receiver on the Chiefs depth chart. He also had off the field issues heading into the 2016 NFL Draft. This pick gets an F grade.
162. Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford C Grade
Kevin Hogan is already a third stringer on the Chiefs depth chart. He's pushing Aaron Murray for the backup job so this is a pick that deserves a C grade.
165. Tyreek Hill, WR, Western Alabama B Grade
Tyreek Hill may be the Chiefs best pick. Hill is a possible front runner to start as a return specialist for the Chiefs.
178. D.J. White, CB, Georgia Tech F Grade
D.J. White may not make the Chiefs roster. He's talented enough to make the practice squad on a Chiefs team that is loaded with depth at cornerback.
203. Dadi Nicolas, 3-4 LOLB, Virginia Tech F Grade
Dadi Nicolas is a third string 3-4 left outside linebacker. I am not sure he will last on the Chiefs roster for more than two seasons at the very most.
Kansas City Chiefs Team Grade: C Grade
Kansas City didn't get immediate starters. They got Chris Jones and an abundance of depth in the second round before reaching for some players near the end. I think the Chiefs deserve a C grade for their drafting.
