2015 NFL Conference Championship Game Recaps

Green Bay Packers 13-5-0
Seattle Seahawks 14-4-0

Game Recap: SEATTLE-This was Green Bay's first appearance in an NFC Title game since they won Super Bowl 45. Today they faced the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks.

Both teams got interceptions on their first series. Green Bay drove the ball downfield only to be intercepted by Richard Sherman. On the following series rookie HaHa Clinton-Dix intercepted a Russell Wilson pass.

Green Bay got a field goal after John Kuhn and Eddie Lacy both fell short of the end zone. On the kickoff, Brad Jones forced a Seahawks fumble. Green Bay got the ball back again and drove the ball downfield only to get another field goal.

Seattle was lucky only to be down 6 to 0 early in this game. Green Bay led 13 to 0 after 1 quarter. The most amazing stat was that Rodgers was 8 for 13 and that Russell Wilson went the entire first quarter without a completion. Eddie Lacy had 54 rushing yards. Marshawn Lynch only had 6.

Seattle got flagged five times in the first half. Green Bay got a third field goal to take a 16 to 0 lead.

Green Bay got 11 first downs before Seattle moved he chains even once. HaHa Clinton-Dix got another interception while Earl Thomas left the game injured at free safety. That was one of the biggest differences in the first half. Rodgers had a chance to put Green Bay up 19 to 0. Byron Maxwell caught an interception which gave Seattle the ball back.

Seattle finally got their first down on their next series on 3rd and 2. Once Seattle finally moved the chains, the Seahawks picked up some much needed momentum. About 3 and a half minutes later, Russell Wilson threw his first completion on third down. Having Alvin Bailey play right tackle instead of Justin Britt really limited what Wilson could do in the passing game and what Lynch did in the running game. Britt's absence worked in Green Bay's favor.

After converting 3 straight third down conversions, Russell Wilson threw his third interception after completing his first pass on third down. That interception may be the difference. Green Bay's defense played as close to a perfect first half as possible.

Seattle scored on a trick play in the third quarter. The fake field goal pass for a touchdown made it 16 to 7. Green Bay kicked a field goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 19 to 7.

Russell Wilson threw his fourth interception to Morgan Burnett. Yet Wilson threw 0 touchdowns today.

Russell Wilson ran it in later in the fourth quarter. That made it 19 to 14.

The biggest play occurred when Seattle recovered an onside kick. Chris Matthews recovered an onside kick for Seattle. The Seahawks drove the ball downfield as Marshawn Lynch scored the go ahead touchdown. Seattle got a two point conversion and scored 15 points in 47 seconds.

Green Bay drove the ball downfield to tie it at 22. The game went into overtime.

Seattle won the coin toss and got the ball first. As a result, the Seahawks drove the ball downfield only to watch Russell Wilson throw his only touchdown of the game to Jermaine Kearse. Seahawks won 28 to 22. Seattle will go to Arizona to play for the right to be the first team to repeat since the New England Patriots.

Indianapolis Colts 13-6-0
New England Patriots 14-4-0

Game Recap: NEW ENGLAND-Jesse Lucas covered these teams earlier when they met in Lucas Oil Stadium. Now both teams met in Gillete Stadium with much higher stakes on the line.

In a game that I thought would be a land slide victory (by land slide I mean I picked the Patriots to win by 17 points) even I was shocked at how good the Patriots offense and defense played. Tom Brady passed for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns on 65% completion percentage. He was even the second highest rusher on the team with 13 yards on 3 attempts.

The big headline for the Patriots though had to be seeing how great LeGarrette Blount is playing for them again. Blount had 30 carries for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Brady threw for 3 touchdowns and not one of them was to an actual wide receiver. He threw one to Gronk (TE), Nate Solder (LT), and James Develin (FB). Julian Edelman led the receivers with 98 receiving yards averaging 10.9 per catch.

This game also gave head coach Bill Belichick the record for most postseason wins by a head coach. All in all it was a great performance from just about everybody on the Patriots side of the ball.

Rob Ninkovich only had 3 tackles but he also deflected 2 passes that both would have been first down, one of which was a third down conversion attempt. He was also all over Andrew Luck all night long providing pressure and hurrying him on numerous plays. Jamie Collins had 3 tackles and 1 INT. Revis picked one off from his Island and recorded 1 tackle.

On the other side of the ball Andrew Luck had a horrible night. Completing only 36% of his passes for 126 yards, 2 interceptions, and no touchdowns.

Not a single rusher for the Colts had over 52 rushing yards and T.Y. Hilton led the Indy receivers with only 36 receiving yards.

Toler and Freeman led the defense with 9 and 6 tackles respectively. D’Qwell Jackson picked Brady off one time and Redding recorded 1 sack. Besides that it was a very quiet night for the Colts defensive squad who didn’t seem like they could stop a nose bleed tonight.

With tonight’s win Brady ties the record for Super Bowl appearances (6) and the Patriots tie the record currently held by the Cowboys and Steelers for Super Bowl appearances (8). In tonight’s game Brady also passed Peyton Manning for the record in passing yards in the post season.
