2014 NFL Week 5 Predictions

Carson Palmer should be back in week 5. The 3-0 Cardinals will travel to Denver in the game of the week after both teams rested with bye weeks in week 4.

Minnesota Vikings 2-2-0
Green Bay Packers 2-2-0

Draft Utopia’s prediction page had 35 shares and 30 tweets for the second week in a row. Good job, keep up the awesome work guys. You can also vote on the games with the weekly polls for each game.

Why the Minnesota VIkings will win Vikings have no chance. This game is Green Bay’s.

Why the Green Bay Packers will win Minnesota will prevent this team from playing well early. Rodgers will find a way to deliver.

Prediction: Packers are 9 point favorites. The average gambler is betting $370 on the Green Bay Packers. This is a low bet game and I like the Colts for a few reasons.

Final Score Packers 24 Vikings 17

Jason Bantle’s Pick Packers over Vikings. Three words Discount Double Check.

Chicago Bears 2-2-0
Carolina Panthers 2-2-0

Nobody emailed us anything on teams during the bye week. Last week the Bengals, Browns, Broncos, Cardinals, Seahawks, and Rams had bye weeks. This week the Dolphins and Raiders have bye weeks. Email me chris@draftutopia.com to comment on one of these teams. Your comments will be posted on our picks page in week 6.

Why the Chicago Bears will win Chicago has Matt Slauson and Roberto Garza back on the offensive line. Jared Allen is back too.

Why the Carolina Panthers will win Cam Newton will have problems this week. The Bears have all their guys at full health, yet the Panthers are favored.

Prediction: Believe it or not the Panthers are 2 point favorites despite the impressive play of Brian Hoyer. The average gambler is betting $130 dollars on the Panthers. I picked the Titans to make the playoffs at the start of the season. Jake Locker disappointed in weeks 2 and 3 and was ruled inactive in week 4. This is Locker’s last chance. There is no excuse for failing to beat the Browns at home. The team that wins this game will win by a field goal at the last second.

Final Score Bears 31 Panthers 10

Jason Bantle’s Pick Bears over Panthers. Chicago simply has the better roster. No Greg Hardy may cost the overrated Panthers a critical victory.

Cleveland Browns 1-2-0
Tennessee Titans 1-3-0

Last week I went 7-6 on the message boards. SPECULATION SPORTS, Jason W. Bantle, and theDUDE were the only other message board members that posted for week 4. Jason finished in first place again going 9-4. SPECULATION SPORTS went 8-5 while theDUDE went 6-7. You can also go to the Draft Utopia forum in addition to posting picks on this page. If you enter those things when you register and when you make your first post you are on the message boards. Give it a try a

Why the Cleveland Browns will win Cleveland has an offensive line that can protect quarterback Brian Hoyer. The Titans cannot get any pressure on the opposing quarterback. Cleveland has scored a minimum of 21 points in all 3 contests.

Why the Tennessee Titans will win Jake Locker is back. The Titans were ranked 2nd in pass defense before Andrew Luck carved Tennessee at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday. This Sunday the Titans will have Locker unlike last week. There is talk that Justin Gilbert is being demoted from nickel to dime corner. Tennessee has Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, and Justin Hunter who is being rumored to be traded. Hunter may have a big game if Gilbert is not covering him because Joe Haden is the only good corner on this secondary at the moment.

Prediction: Believe it or not the Titans are 1 point favorites despite the impressive play of Brian Hoyer. The average gambler is betting $110 dollars on the Titans.

Final Score Titans 24 Browns 21

Jason Bantle’s Pick Browns over Titans. Brian Hoyer has been more reliable than Jake Locker in 2014. Surprised that the Browns have been doing this well. Cleveland will at least finish 5-11 with Hoyer and may go 7-9.

Bill Clinton’s College Football Playoff Selection Special

Yahoo man. This is your 42nd William Jefferson Clinton. Originally I picked Florida State, Alabama, Oregon, and Oklahoma as my top four teams in that order. Last week I swapped Oregon and Alabama. This week there are some changes in the polls this week.

  1. Oregon Ducks: Marcus Mariota can still kick ass and unleash a jedi quack attack without Chubbles the Clown AKA Chip Kelly. Mariota showed he can be a pocket quarterback by taking snaps under center without using a shotgun package versus Wyoming. Mariota also guided the Ducks to a big victory over Michigan State a few weeks ago that moved them up to #2 in the polls. Mariota felt the cougarbait that was Washington State. Still, he managed to evade the seductive cougars hoping to chase his thighs for a sack. Oregon wins and the Ducks quack there way to the top spot in my poll now.

  2. Previous Ranking: #1

  3. Alabama Crimson Tide: The SEC also known as the South East Collegiate Pimps is the best damn conference in college football period. This is coming from an ex Razorback. Go Razorbacks. I cannot stand the Alabama Crimson Tide. However they do have the biggest pimp in the SEC, AKA Nick Saban. Alabama gets this spot. Roll Tide Roll Yahoo man. The one reason why I am down on Tide at the moment is because the Crimson Tide have a weaker schedule then usual.

  4. Previous Ranking: #2

  5. Florida State Seminoles: At #1 we have the Florida State Seminoles or as I call them the Semites. The Semites are led by the food stealer. Jameis Winston. So Winston stands up on a table and yells blank her in the pussy. Then Florida State suspends him for an entire game. Winston causes Florida State to drop to third in our poll because of his behavior. Also I want to be seamus as semen on that blue dress. I did not have sexual relations with Miss Monica Lewinsky.

  6. Previous Ranking: #3

  7. Texas A&M Aggies: Last week I got pissed off about putting Oklahoma at fourth. I threatened to give Chris Ransom a spanking if he did not put the Texas Longhorns at #4. Ransom told me the Horns have no chance to be the fourth team, so we came to a compromise that Texas A&M should be the fourth team. The Aggies defeated South Carolina in week 1, and they play in the SEC. Kenny Hill is the man. Forget Johnny Football. Also Kevin Sumlin is considered the second biggest pimp in the SEC after Nick Saban even though you could make that argument for Gus Malzhan out of Auburn. Les Miles lost to an unranked Mississippi State team at home and failed to bring LSU a National Title after the team was ranked #1 in the preseason polls a few years ago during Matt Barkley’s senior season.

  8. Previous Ranking: #4

Why the St. Louis Rams will win The Rams are a joke without Bradford. Do they really expect to win on the road in Philadelphia despite the impressive performance versus the Dallas Cowboys in week 3.

Why the Philadelphia Eagles will win The Eagles will not lose back to back games. This will be an easy home win.

Prediction: Philadelphia is a 7 point favorite and the average gambler is betting $290 dollars on this game.

Final Score: Eagles 21 Rams 7

Jason Bantle’s Pick Eagles over Rams. Philadelphia is coming off a bitter loss while the Rams play in a dome.

Atlanta Falcons 2-2-0
New York Giants 2-2-0

Curious as to who your team will draft. Go to our 2015 NFL Mock Draft to view your pick.

Why the Atlanta Falcons will win The Atlanta Falcons have the NFL’s best offense in terms of quarterback and playmakers. Matt Ryan is bound for a huge year. Steven Jackson can help Atlanta win if he has a 100 yard day.

Why the New York Giants will win The Giants have won 2 in a row. Atlanta has a ton of injuries on the offensive line. Jason Pierre Paul and Robert Ayers will find a way to get to Ryan. Prince Amukamara and Dominique-Rodgers Cromartie can cover. Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford will present some challenges in coverage for the Falcons. I still think Eli can pick apart the secondary because the Falcons are always uncertain as to whether they should call plays with a 4-3 or 3-4 defense. That uncertainty is weakness waiting to be exposed.

Prediction: The New York Giants are a 4 point favorite and the average gambler is betting $200 dollars on this game.

Final Score: Giants 28 Falcons 17

Jason Bantle’s Pick Giants over Falcons. Falcons struggle on the road. This team can only win indoors.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1-3-0
New Orleans Saints 1-3-0

I found this awesome Capitalism VS Socialism video. This is better than anything on Go Animate.

Why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will win Mike Glennon maintains his momentum against one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses. Both the Saints and Buccaneers are tied for 28th in pass defense. Both quarterbacks should have big games. One thing Tampa Bay did exceptional with was the pass rush. Michael Johnson and Gerald McCoy need to maintain the momentum from week 4 by pressuring Drew Brees by bringing blitzes and quarterback hurries. Mike Evans left in week 4. The rookie wide receiver is still listed as uncertain for week 5 and is expected to be a game time decision.

Why the New Orleans Saints will win Drew Brees has a 71.4 completion percentage in 2014. The other thing to account for is that Brees is money at home in the Mercedes Super Dome. New Orleans will do a better job preparing for Doug Martin.

Prediction: The New Orleans Saints are a 10.5 point favorite and the average gambler is betting $550 dollars on the Saints in this game. This is the first week where the maximum average bet is under $600 dollars.

Final Score: Saints 35 Buccaneers 21

Jason Bantle’s Pick Saints over Buccaneers. Remember the last time the Buccaneers played indoors? How did that turn out. If you watch Thursday Night Football, you knew it was an ugly sight.

Houston Texans 3-1-0
Dallas Cowboys 3-1-0

This just in. Jerry Jones has just hired former Initech Vice President Bill Lumbergh as the new GM and team consultant for the Dallas Cowboys. Every week we will get Lumbergh’s two cents on the Dallas Cowboys. So far Lumbergh is 3-0-0 after taking over as GM in week 2. The Cowboys won in Lumbergh’s first three games as General Manager/Team Consultant.

Here is this weeks advice from Bill Lumbergh.

"Jason Garrett what’s happening? Glad we won again. That’s 3-1. Good stuff Jason. Now if we could win the Texas bowl by beating the Houston Texans Dallas would be the best team in the state of Texas. Now if we could start 4-1 that would be great."

Why the Houston Texans will win Houston needs to start 4-1. You have a strong 3-4 defense led by Romeo Crennel. This 3-4 defensive line is the best defensive line, Romeo Crennel has coached since Super Bowl 39. The 3-4 outside linebackers along with middle linebacker Brian Cushing are pretty good too.

Tony Romo may not be able to handle this secondary. Jonathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, D.J. Swearinger, and Kendrick Lewis. Romo has to make good choices.

Why the Dallas Cowboys will win Romo wants to start 4-1. The Texans rarely lose against the Dallas Cowboys. Houston has the better secondary. Expect Romo to throw a pick. A pick six will cost Dallas.

Prediction: Dallas Cowboys are 6 points favorites versus the Houston Texans. This is going to be a game that is decided in overtime.

Final Score: Cowboys 24 Texans 21 OT

Jason Bantle’s Pick Texans in overtime. I think it will be an overtime win as well.

Buffalo Bills 2-2-0
Detroit Lions 3-1-0

Why the Buffalo Bills will win Buffalo benched E.J. Manuel in favor of Kyle Orton. Benching a quarterback when he is still learning is like spitting in the face of the fans. Benching Manuel for Kyle Orton is like spitting chewing tobacco in the face of the fans.

Why the Detroit Lions will win Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson will destroy a team that does not have a #1 cornerback. Both teams have kickers with Nate Freese and Dan Carpenter. Calvin Johnson will pick apart McKelvin. I also think the tight ends will have some big plays for the Lions.

Prediction: Detroit is a 7 point favorite. The average fan is betting $315 dollars on the Lions.

Final Score: Lions 31 Bills 13

Jason Bantle’s Pick Lions over Bills. The best wide receiver in fantasy leagues is Calvin Johnson. Megatron will deliver.

Baltimore Ravens 3-1-0
Indianapolis Colts 2-2-0

Why the Baltimore Ravens will win Baltimore Ravens will have trouble running the ball. Both pass defenses will struggle. Expect both Flacco and Luck to have big games. Darryl Smith and C.J. Mosley can take away the running game. Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil have to get pressure on Andrew Luck.

Why the Indianapolis Colts will win The Colts have the best offense in thte NFL. Andrew Luck has been phenomenal in the last two contests. Baltimore has a much tougher defense. Reggie Wayne, Hakeem Nicks, T.Y. Hilton, Dwayne Allen, and Coby Fleener.

Prediction: Indianapolis is a 3.5 point favorite. The average fan is betting $175 dollars on the Colts.

Final Score: Colts 31 Ravens 27

Jason Bantle’s Pick Colts over Ravens. Andrew Luck is money. The guy has been on a hot streak the last two weeks.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2-2-0
Jacksonville Jaguars 0-4-0

Why the Pittsburgh Steelers will win The Jaguars were last in the NFL in pass defense and run defense prior to week 4. Ben Roethlisberger will motivate this team to perform at a high level. Guys on defense like Lawrence Timmons and Ryan Shazier will disable Toby Gerhart with ease. Brett Keisel can get by left guard Zane Beadles. Le’Veon Bell will have no problem running on the Jaguars. Brown should have another big game.

Why the Jacksonville Jaguars will win Blake Bortles will do better against the Steelers at home. Allen Hurns, Cecil Shorts, Allen Robinson, and Marqise Lee. Lee and Shorts are injured. Robinson and Hurns should dominate against a cornerback tandem that does not feature Ike Taylor. Jacksonville should get by Kelvin Beachum. The depth at right end is good and Beachum misses a lot of blocks when pass blocking. His run blocking footwork is outstanding while his pass blocking footwork is mediocre. Beachum was a guard at SMU before having to adapt to the left tackle role.

Prediction: Pittsburgh is a 6.5 point favorite. The average fan is betting $285 dollars on the Steelers.

Final Score: Steelers 31 Jaguars 28

Jason Bantle’s Pick Steelers over Jaguars. Both teams have quarterbacks that can throw for 300 yards against these pass defenses. Steelers have a running game. That is what separates these two teams.

Arizona Cardinals 3-0-0
Denver Broncos 2-1-0

Why the Arizona Cardinals will win Carson Palmer is listed as probable. He has four wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd, Ted Ginn Jr., and John Brown. You also have a two tight end set with Rob Housler and Troy Niklas. On defense cornerbacks like Patrick Peterson and Antonio Cromartie can cover.

Why the Denver Broncos will win Getting the ball to Wes Welker, Julius Thomas, and handing off the ball to running back Montee Ball will be most effective if Manning expects to succeed. Throwing it near Peterson or Cromartie will be foolish. Eventually you want to get the ball to Thomas and Sanders after these guys open up the rest of the passing game. DeMarcus Ware has to get by Jared Veldheer. Von Miller will be an impact player on defense. The secondary features Aqib Talib, Chris Harris, Bradley Roby, Kayvon Webster, T.J. Ward, and Rahim Moore. This offensive line featuring Ryan Clady, Orlando Franklin, Manny Ramirez, Louis Vasquez, and Chris Clark will give Manning a surplus of time in the pocket.

Prediction: Denver is a 7 point favorite. The average fan is betting $330 dollars on the Broncos.

Final Score: Broncos 28 Cardinals 14

Jason Bantle’s Pick Broncos over Cardinals. Peyton Manning has had 2 weeks to prepare for a 3-0 team in Denver coming off a loss. How do you think Manning will play?

Kansas City Chiefs 2-2-0
San Francisco 49ers 2-2-0

Why the Kansas City Chiefs will win Kansas City is known for run blocking. I like Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. Glenn Dorsey is out along with 3-4 middle linebacker Navarro Bowman. Aldon Smith is out as well. Tamba Hali and Justin Houston should be able to get pressure on Colin Kaepernick. Dontari Poe should stop Marcus Martin or whoever starts at center. Poe should be able to limit the amount of rushing yards Frank Gore has. Travis Kelce can play tight end. You cannot sleep on the former Cincinnati Bearcat anymore.

Why the San Francisco 49ers will win I think Kaepernick can have some big plays through the air. If Frank Gore can get by Poe, he will have quite a few first downs. Even if Vernon Davis plays he will not be 100 percent until week 7 and Vance McDonald is out with an injury as well. Kansas City will use their #1 corner and Eric Berry to double team Crabtree. You can use Shaun Smith to take Anquan Boldin or Stevie Johnson.

Prediction: San Francisco is a 6 point favorite. The average fan is betting $270 dollars on the 49ers.

Final Score: Chiefs 28 49ers 24

Jason Bantle’s Pick 49ers over Chiefs. Kaepernick will defeat the quarterback he once served as a backup to in San Francisco.

New York Jets 1-3-0
San Diego Chargers 3-1-0

It is time for a weekly update on the Obamacare Fantasy Football League that I created for fun back in July. Here to breakdown the highlights is none other than Stephen Colbert.

Stephen Colbert: Welcome To the Obamacare Fantasy Football League. The bye weeks had a clear influence on some of the teams this week folks.

Recently my good friend Bill O’Reilly called the Fantasy Football Conference a passionate group of Fantasy Owners and I agree folks. You are passionate when you keep your opponent to under 100 points like the 75 to 35 Herman Cain over Mitt Romney game. There is nobody female in this league that is more empowering than Sarah Palin. Palin lost 110 to 0, but it is the effort that counts folks. Newt GIngrich and Herman Cain are both 3-1.

We got some good news and some bad news when it comes to the democratic conference. Lets start with the good news because most of the time Democrats do nothing good.

Bill Clinton finally won a game folks. Having Matthew Stafford, Le’Veon Bell, Reggie Bush, Calvin Johnson, and Jordy Nelson in your lineup is a sick lineup. Joe Biden never had much of achance and he had the first overall pick in the draft. Clinton won 133-130

Obama blew out Hillary as expected. Obama is 4-0 while Hillary is 3-1. While Hillary has a good grip of second place, Bill Clinton has a chance to make things happen. Being 1-2 versus democrats with gives William Jefferson Clinton a marginal chance of making the playoffs.

All of the teams that met in week 2 will have rematches in week 5. Herman Cain has a chance to regain first place over Newt Gingrich after losing to Newt in week 2. Bill Clinton faces Obama. Bill can get back in the playoff race if he beat the 4-0 Barack Obama.

Why the New York Jets will win New York has Sheldon Richardson and Muhammed Wilkerson. The Chargers are weak at guard and the Chargers have the 3-4 defensive ends to stop the running game and get some pressure on Rivers. Calvin Pace and Quinton Coples have to do their part at 3-4 outside linebacker. You get some pressure on Rivers and play turnover free football on offense you have a marginal chance.

Why the San Diego Chargers will win Brandon Flowers and Shareece Wright can cover whoever the Jets start at quarterback.

Prediction: San Diego is a 6.5 point favorite. The average gambler is betting $275 dollars on the Chargers to cover the spread.

Final Score: Chargers 28 Jets 14

Jason Bantle’s Pick Chargers over Jets. Rivers gets the job done with his precise arm. Jets have no identity on secondary making this a favorable fantasy match up if you have Rivers on your team.

Cincinnati Bengals 3-0-0
New England Patriots 2-2-0

Welcome To NBC Sunday Night Football Survivor. My name is Ned Hastings. This Year, We have Team Michaels VS Team Collinsworth. Team Michaels consists of Al Michaels, Michele Tafoya, Dan Patrick, Mike Florio, and Peter King. Team Collinsworth features Cris Collinsworth, Bob Costas, Rodney Harrson, Hines Ward, and Tony Dungy.

Al Michaels was the first to get kicked out. After Michele Tafoya won individual immunity idol for herself and Team Michaels, she put Cris Collinsworth and Tony Dungy up. Both players used their immunity idols to save themselves from elimination. Tafoya has good chemistry with Hines Ward so she nominated Bob Costas and Rodney Harrison for elimination instead.

It was a 3-3 vote as players were torn between whether Costas or Harrison should go. Tafoya had the tiebreaker vote. She wanted to know whether Survior or Big Brother was better.

Harrison went with Survivor describing the Patriots 0-2 start before Brady came in and guided the Patriots to a Super Bowl. Bob Costas talked about how Big Brother is cool with cameras and how the NSA is awesome. Tafoya gave Costas the silent treatment by shrugging her shoulders indicating that Costas would go home. Costas was eliminated.

Bob the Tribe has spoken. You are no longer on NBC Sunday Night Football Survivor. Please step forward and hand me your torch.

Next week it is Team Collinsworth led by Cris Collinsworth with the Bengals versus Dan Patrick who will have the Patriots representing Team Michaels.

Why the Cincinnati Bengals will win Cincinnati has an even tougher offensive line than the one the Chiefs have. New England only had 6 weeks to prepare for the Patriots while Dalton and company had a week to prepare for the Patriots. Carlos Dunlap can get by Nate Solder. Cincinnati, like New England has a good pass defense that can give quarterbacks fits.

Why the New England Patriots will win It finally feels like the Patriots are witnessing the beginning of the end. I still believe the Patriots can win this contest. You always have a shot with Brady. Patriots still have the top pass defense in the NFL plus Brandon Browner returns at cornerback. Having the top kicker in Gostkowski will be a plus. This run defense will be ready for Giovanni Bernard. This front 7 will focus on Bernard. Revis will do a better job covering A.J. Green.

Prediction: Cincinnati is a 1 point favorite. The average gambler is betting $110 dollars on the Bengals to cover the spread.

Final Score: Patriots 20 Bengals 14

Jason Bantle’s Pick Bengals over Patriots. Tom Brady might be past his prime.

Seattle Seahawks 2-1-0
Washington Redskins 1-3-0

Why the Seattle Seahawks will win Seattle has had over a week to prepare for Kirk Cousins. This secondary is even better than the one Cousins faced on Thursday Night Football.

Why the Washington Redskins will win Washington has two rushers with Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan. If either guy gets pressure on Russell Wilson this is a winnable game if they can stop Marshawn Lynch.

Prediction: Seattle is a 7 point favorite. The average gambler is betting $330 dollars on the Seahawks to cover the spread.

Jason Bantle’s Pick Seahawks over Redskins. Russell Wilson wins the rematch just like he did when Wisconsin defeated Michigan State in the 2011 Big 10 Championship Game.
