2020 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds
Round 6
Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: April 23, 2020.
Cincinnati Bengals: Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford
- Cincinnati grabs a tight end here. Tyler Eifert is gone and someone like Colby Parkinson provides more value here compared to someone like Drew Sample, who Cincinnati selected in the 2019 NFL Draft. The 6-7 252 lb tight end was one of the better tight ends at the 2020 NFL Combine. Cincinnati gets him hoping he can be a future replacement to C.J. Uzomah.
Denver Broncos: Shea Patterson, QB, Michigan
- Denver gets their backup to Drew Lock here since they released Joe Flacco. The 6-1 204 lb Shea Patterson is the top quarterback on the board in the sixth round.
Detroit Lions: Darryl Williams, C, Mississippi State
- Detroit gets a backup center to Frank Ragnow. Former Wisconsin right guard Beau Benzschawel is the current backup center to Ragnow. The 6-2 304 lb Darryl Williams played left guard, center, and right guard at Mississippi State. Detroit drafts him hoping to get a quality backup center to Ragnow. Worst case scenario, he doesn't make the final roster and you demote him to the practice squad.
New York Giants: Omar Bayless, WR, Arkansas State
- The 6-1 212 lb Omar Bayless dominated in 2019 with 93 receptions, 1,653 receiving yards, and 17 receiving touchdowns. Only Billetnikoff Award Winner Ja'Maar Chase did better than Bayless in 2019. Omar ran a 4.62 40-time at the 2020 NFL Combine, but he gives Daniel Jones a big body target at wide receiver.
Carolina Panthers: Alex Taylor, LT, South Carolina State
- Carolina has Russell Okung at left tackle and Greg Little at right tackle. The 6-8 308 lb Alex Taylor can play offensive tackle on either side. He seems like more of a swing tackle than an actual starter which is what Carolina needs this late in the sixth round.
Miami Dolphins: James Lynch, 3-4 LE, Baylor
- Miami has Christian Wilkins, Shaq Lawson, Taco Charlton, and Emmanuel Ogbah. James Lynch is more of a 3-4 defensive end than someone like Lawson, Charlton, or Ogbah. The 6-4 289 lb James Lynch is the ideal 3-4 defensive end for Miami to draft here.
Los Angeles Chargers: Xavier Jones, RB, SMU
- The Los Angeles Chargers have Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson at running back. A third string running back to push Ekeler and Jackson is needed.
- The 5-11 208 lb Xavier Jones had 244 carries, 1,276 rushing yards, and 23 rushing touchdowns in 2019. Jones also had 20 receptions, 90 receiving yards, and 2 receiving touchdowns.
Cleveland Browns: Dezmon Patmon, WR, Washington State
- Cleveland gets a slot receiver to replace Higgins here. Dezmon Patmon is a great find for the Browns in the sixth round.
Buffalo Bills: Kendall Coleman, RE, Syracuse
- Buffalo drafts someone to groom behind Jerry Hughes. The 6-3 257 lb Kendall Coleman was the starting 4-3 right end that got by left tackles at Syracuse making him the ideal player to groom behind Hughes.
Jacksonville Jaguars: La'Mical Perine, RB, Florida
- Jacksonville gets depth behind Leonard Fournette and Michael Warren II who I mocked in the fourth round. La'Michal Perine did well in the 2020 Senior Bowl game making a great value pick for the Jaguars here.
Philadelphia Eagles: Ke'Shawn Vaughn, RB, Vanderbilt
- The 5-9 205 lb Ke'Shawn Vaughn is a great value pick for Philadelphia on day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft. He compliments Miles Sanders and Boston Scott in Philadelphia's backfield. He's not as experienced as former Commodore Ralph Webb, but he's got upside to be a solid depth player at the next level and may have a higher ceiling than Webb despite the lack of carries.
New York Jets: Scott Franz, LT, Kansas State
- The 6-5 303 lb Scott Franz did well against Mississippi State and Oklahoma. He kept Myles Garrett in check during his freshman redshirt season in the Texas Bowl. Against Baylor he gave up 16 quarterback hurries and 5 sacks in just one game this season. Still, he has more upside than someone like George Fant which is why he is a good pick.
Green Bay Packers: Devin Asiasi, TE, UCLA
- The 6-3 257 lb Devin Asiasi provides competition for tight ends like Brycen Hopkins, Marcedes Lewis and Jake Sternberger. Even though Jimmy Graham is gone Green Bay now has three quality tight ends that can get open for Aaron Rodgers making the offense harder to game plan around if all three tight ends execute.
Indianapolis Colts: Lucas Niang, RT, TCU
- Indianpolis drafts an offensive tackle for depth after losing both backups to Free Agency. Lucas Niang out of TCU was once a top 40 player back in the fall and Indianapolis gets him as a quality backup to Braden Smith. He's also a pretty damn good run blocker with the run blocking strength and run blocking footwork.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Trevon Hill, 3-4 LOLB, Miami FL
- Tampa Bay gets an edge rusher for depth here. Someone next to Shilique Calhoun is needed. Trevon Hill will begin his career as a backup to Jason Pierre-Paul.
New England Patriots: Rodrigo Blankenship, K, Georgia
- New England does not have a kicker on their depth chart at the moment. The Patriots snag the best kicker in this draft class here as a replacement to Stephen Gostkowski.
Chicago Bears: A.J. Green, CB, Oklahoma State
- Chicago gets a cornerback to replace Prince Amukamara here. A.J. Green looked awful against the Texas wide receivers. Chicago is desperate for a corner and since they didn't draft one earlier in this mock they settle for Green here.
Indianapolis Colts: Sean McKeon, TE, Michigan
- Indianapolis gets a tight end for depth to replace Eric Ebron. I like Sean McKeon more than any Michigan tight end I've watched. I did not like Jake Butt or Michigan's tight end in the 2019 NFL Draft that the Steelers drafted. McKeon is a nice role player here and would do well as a second tight end, but this team is screwed if Jack Doyle goes down.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Dorian Etheridge, 3-4 MLB, Louisville
- Pittsburgh grabs Mark Barron's replacement here. Dorian Etheridge is a great run stuffing tackler who can drop back into coverage while rushing the passer. Like most linebackers he struggles with winning blocks. Pittsburgh also cut their 2018 fifth round pick Micah Kiser so getting Etheridge here is pararmount in the sixth round.
Los Angeles Rams: Aaron Parker, WR, Rhode Island
- Aaron Parker led Rhode Island in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2019. He gives the Rams one more weapon for depth at wide receiver in the late rounds. He is also the best player left on my board at this point in the sixth round.
Chicago Bears: Isaiah Coulter, WR, Rhode Island
- Chicago gets a weapon. Isaiah Coulter ran a better 40-time than teammate Aaron Paker. Both Rhode Island Rams have great game speed when you watch their film.
Buffalo Bills: Antoine Brooks Jr., SS, Maryland
- The 5-11 213 lb Antoine Brooks Jr. can play strong safety or free safety. Buffalo has two good safeties in Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde so Antoine Brooks Jr. would basically go to Buffalo as a reserve safety for depth.
Arizona Cardinals: J.J. Taylor, RB, Arizona
- Arizona grabs a local for depth. Sure this team has Kenyan Drake and Chase Edmonds. One more running back for depth is needed. The local running back for the Arizona Wildcats known as J.J. Taylor is the top running back on the board.
New Orleans Saints: Khalid Kareem, LE, Notre Dame
- New Orleans gets a fourth defensive end. They got three good ones with Cameron Jordan and Marcus Davenport as starters along with a quality backup in Trey Hendrickson. Khalid Kareem gives this team one more edge rusher as well as someone to push Hendrickson for that first backup edge rusher role.
New England Patriots: Alex Highsmith, 3-4 ROLB, Charlotte
- The 6-3 248 lb Alex Highsmith had 21 tackles for a loss and 14 sacks in 2019. He has the body of a 3-4 outside linebacker rather than a 4-3 defensive end which was his natural position at Charlotte.
- Highsmith dominated Clemson left tackle Jackson Carman. Dabo Sweeney said Highsmith could play for any school in the country and that he's that good. He didn't wow me in Mobile or at the 2020 NFL Combine despite showcasing the production and tape that impressed NFL scouts this past season.
- New England needed a pass rusher for depth. They get Alex Highsmith here to compliment Chase Winovich, Shilique Calhoun, and Derek Rivers at 204.
Minnesota Vikings: Levonta Taylor, CB, Florida State
- Minnesota goes with another Florida State corner here with Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes gone. Minnesota is going to need to draft a cornerback in the first round and a second cornerback at some point in this draft if they hope the secondary will revert to what it was two seasons ago.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Stanford Samuels III, CB, Florida State
- Jacksonville gets a cornerback for depth here. Stanford Samuels III is ranked higher in some mock drafts than teammate Levonta Taylor. This is a great value pick for Jacksonville in the sixth round.
Minnesota Vikings: Nick Coe, RE, Auburn
- Minnesota gets a pass rusher for depth. Nick Coe is the best player on the board at this point in the late sixth round.
Green Bay Packers: Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington State
- Green Bay drafts Anthony Gordon as a backup behind Aaron Rodgers. They hope for a Gardner Minshew II duplicate to groom for the future to succeed Aaron Rodgers.
- Click this Anthony Gordon Interview to hear a press conference featuring Washington State's quarterback.
Green Bay Packers: Josh Mettellus, SS, Michigan
- Green Bay has no backup safety to strong safety Darnell Savage Jr. so they draft Josh Mettellus here to be a backup to Savage. Mettellus is versatile enough to play strong safety, free safety, outside linebacker on either side, or inside linebacker. He excels in zone coverage and will make a great backup to Darnell Savage Jr.
San Francisco 49ers: Khaleke Hudson, FS, Michigan
- San Francisco gets a backup free safety to Jimmie Ward. Khaleke Hudson is just as versatile as Josh Mettellus and provides great value at 210.
New York Jets: Colton McKivitz, RT, West Virginia
- The 6-6 302 lb Colton McKivitz would make a good backup to Chuma Edoga at right tackle. McKivitz was a four year starter at West Virginia and seems like a better pass blocker than Edoga despite being awful in run blocking and zone blocking.
New England Patriots: Terence Steele, LT, Texas Tech
- New England got this compensation pick at 212 thanks to Malcolm Brown signing with the New Orleans Saints.
- The 6-6 312 lb Terence Steele played left tackle, right tackle, left guard, and right guard at Texas Tech. He also ran a 5.03 40-time and did 27-reps on the bench press. He is a good backup for Isaiah Wynn with Marshall Newhouse gone.
New England Patriots: Mohamed Barry, 3-4 MLB, Nebraska
- New England got this compensation pick at 213 thanks to Cordarrelle Patterson signing with the Chicago Bears.
- The 6-1 241 lb Mohamed Barry gives New Englnad a solid middle linebacker late in the draft. Barry had 41 solo tackles, 48 assisted tackles, and 89 total tackles in 2019.
Seattle Seahawks: Joe Bachie, MLB, Michigan State
- Seattle got this compensation pick at 214 thanks to Shamar Stephen signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
- Joe Bachie was my favorite Michigan State player not named Josiah Scott. Bachie entered the year as a second to third round pick. Getting suspended at Michigan State during his senior season caused Bachie to slip to this pick. At the same time, he gets to learn under one of the leagues best middle linebackers in Bobby Wagner so maybe going here will help him grow up and clean up his act.
