2017 MLS Super Draft Results

Round 4

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: January 17, 2017

  1. Minnesota United F.C.: Tanner Thompson, M, Indiana A Grade

Tanner Thompson was a second round talent. I'm amazed that he slipped this far.

  2. Atlanta United F.C.: Alex Kapp, G, Creighton D Grade

I'm not a fan of this pick. Some teams did have fourth round grades on Kapp which is why Atlanta UNited F.C. gets a D grade here.

  3. Chicago Fire: Matej Dekovic, D, Charlotte A Grade

The 6-2 180 lb Matej Dekovic gives Chicago depth at center back. Also he anchored Charlotte's defense helping them get 10 shutouts and limited opponents to 1 goal in 15 different games. Matej Dekovic is a good center back in the fourth round of the 2017 MLS Super Draft. Dekovic is a center back that everyone is sleeping on.

  4. Houston Dynamo: Robby Sagel, D, Penn State A Grade

The Houston Dynamo add a defenseman here. The 6-3 175 lb Robby Sagel has two years of experience as a center back and two years of experience as a center back at Penn State. Sagel is the best player available here.

  5. Columbus Crew S.C.: Logan Ketterer, G, Bradley F Grade

Logan Ketterer is a huge reach here. I feel like Columbus Crew S.C. could have went in a couple of other directions.

  6. San Jose Earthquakes: Auden Schilder, G, Washington D Grade

San Jose spent a first round pick in the 2016 MLS Super Draft on a goalie. That's why I dislike this pick even though I had Schider in my 80-88 range on my draft board.

  7. Vancouver Whitecaps: Nazeem Bartman, F, South Florida A Grade

The 5-7 160 lb Nazeem Bartman disappointed with only 6 goals in 2016. Despite this, scouts love his tape and have compared him Dom Dwyer. Bartman was the best player on South Florida even though I sort of agree with Bartman being more of a day 2 pick then a day 1 pick.

  8. Real Salt Lake: Passed F Grade

I always hand out F grades to teams that pass on players at this point. At least make an effort to take someone here. Because Real Salt Lake passed in the third round they could not take someone here in the fourth round.

  9. New England Revolution: Joshua Smith, D, San Francisco A Grade

The 6-4 200 lb Joshua Smith is now the biggest defenseman in the 2017 MLS Super Draft. Smith also has the versatility to play both center back and defensive midfielder. Smith helped San Francisco upset Stanford in College Soccer which is antoher reason why I love this pick.

  10. Portland Timbers: Russell Cicerone, M, Buffalo A Grade

Russell Cicerone got voted team captain of the Buffalo Bulls as a sophomore in 2014. Cicerone had 10 goals, 3 assists, and 23 points that year. Cicerone had 12 goals, 8 assists, and 32 points as a junior in 2015. He ended his senior season with 14 goals, 9 assists, and 37 points in 2016. The 5-10 160 lb midfielder is versatile enough to play striker, secondary striker, left wing, right wing, or attacking midfielder.

  11. Philadelphia Union: Jack Elliott, D, West Virginia A Grade

The 6-5 180 lb Jack Elliott helped West Virginia record 8 shutouts in 2016 as a defensive midfielder. He may be a good edition for Philadelphia at the top of the fourth round. Elliott is from London, England as well.

  12. D.C. United: Passed F Grade

I always hand out F grades to teams that pass on players at this point. At least make an effort to take someone here.

  13. Real Salt Lake: Passed F Grade

I always hand out F grades to teams that pass on players at this point. At least make an effort to take someone here. Because Real Salt Lake passed in the third round they could not take someone here in the fourth round.

  14. Portland Timbers: Romilio Hernandez, M, Louisville C Grade

Romilio Hernandez is a solid depth pick at this point. He may have some success in the USL.

  15. Los Angeles Galaxy: F Grade

I always hand out F grades to teams that pass on players at this point. At least make an effort to take someone here.

  16. Philadelphia Union: Santi Moar, M, Pfieffer B Grade

Santi Moar is a solid pick here. I like the idea of taking Nate Regis better, but I don't completeley dislike this pick.

  17. Toronto F.C.: Lars Eckenrode, D, Michigan F Grade

Michigan's defense was their weakness in College Soccer. That's why I gave Toronto F.C. an F grade here.

  18. F.C. Dallas: Marco Carrizales, M, Furman A Grade

Marco Carrizales is a local player from Dallas, TX. I think F.C. Dallas scouted him real well before drafting him this late in the fourth round.

  19. Montreal Impact: Passed F Grade

I always hand out F grades to teams that pass on players at this point. At least make an effort to take someone here. Because Montreal passed in the third round they could not take someone here in the fourth round.

  20. Colorado Rapids: Peguy Ngatcha, F, Wright State A Grade

The 5-11 200 lb Peguy Ngatcha is one of the most talented strikers that did not get an invite to the 2017 MLS Combine. Ngatcha had 10 goals, 4 assists, and 24 points in 2016. Colorado could draft Ngatcha as a striker to develop here.

  21. Toronto F.C.: Juan Pablo Saavedra, D, Virginia Tech C Grade

Juan Pablo Saavedra may end up being a solid pick. He gives someone for Toronto to develop here.

  22. Seattle Sounders: Kyle Bjornethun, D, Seattle A Grade

The 5-11 160 lb Kyle Bjornethun played center back in Seattle despite his lack of size. Many had a second round grade on him, but I see a late third rounder that either converts to outside back or demoted to the USL.
