Pittsburgh Penguins Return To Eastern Conference Finals

The Pittsburgh Penguins entered tonight 3-0 against the Washington Capitals in game 7 contests. Pittsburgh won all of those games on the road and 2 in the Verizon Center when Alex Ovechkin faced off with Sidney Crosby.
Both teams were playing not to lose early with Pittsburgh outshooting the Capitals 10-8 in the first period. Washington managed to adjust. You saw the Capitals get more shots on goal. That didn't seem to matter with Bryan Rust scoring first to put Pittsburgh ahead 1-0. Washington outshot Pittsburgh 15-8 in the second period. Pittsburgh still led.
Pittsburgh limited Washington to 6 shots on goal in the third period. Also Patrice Hornqvist scored to put Pittsburgh ahead 2-0. Marc Andre-Fleury went 29/29 with a good shutout in a critical game 7.
The bottom line in tonights game is this. Pittsburgh was patient, they controlled their emotions and kept their composure throughout the game. Washington didn't. Once Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead, Washington began forcing things. Instead of playing with patience and intensity, the Capitals played with anger and rage. The Capitals failed to play with poise or discipline and that's the biggest reason why the Pittsburgh Penguins are still in a prime position to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions in 2017.
