Golden State Warriors 2015 Season Preview
Posted By: Chris Ransom on 8/30/2015
Golden State had a good starting five a few years ago when point guard Steph Curry, shooting guard Klay Thompson, small forward Harrison Barnes, power forward David Lee, and center Andrew Bogut were on the team. All 5 scorers had double digit points while guiding the Warriors to the Western Conference Semifinals. Following that season Golden State added Andre Iguodala as a small forward.
When the 2014-2015 season began, David Lee went down with an injury and Draymond Green stepped in. Green averaged 11.7 points per game at power forward. Bogut only posted 6.4 points per game.
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson can both score over 20 points per game. The two form arguably the best tandem of guards in the entire NBA. Golden State will be a favorite to win the Western Conference and if the Warriors make it out of the Western Conference alive, then they have a chance to repeat as NBA Champions in 2016 and possibly start a dynasty.
Steve Kerr surprised and did much better than expected. I do not expect the Warriors to repeat, but they have to open up the season as the favorite to repeat.
Kerr has an interesting group of players to work with. It will be fun to see what he can do with this group of guy since he is a better coach than Mark Jackson.
Golden State Warriors 2015-2016 Starting 5 Predictions
Our starting 5 predictions segment will feature a brief one paragraph prediction from 5 of our basketball analysts at Draft Utopia.
Chris Ransom: The Golden State Warriors lose to the San Antonio Spurs in the divisional round. Andrew Bogut may be a liability in terms of scoring plus David Lee is gone. Golden State has nobody that can step in if Draymond Green goes down.
Jesse Lucas: I got the 3 seed Golden State Warriors losing to San Antonio in the opening round.
Lisa Donovan: Golden State may win a playoff round. I got Houston and San Antonio playing for the west with Oklahoma City and the Warriors losing in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Brian Bayless: Golden State will defeat Cleveland in a rematch of the 2015 NBA Finals.
Dax Ember: It's a tough call because I could see Oklahoma City or San Antonio win the Western Conference. I am going with Golden State over Cleveland again. If Oklahoma City or San Antonio wins the Western Conference, then that team will beat Cleveland in the 2016 NBA Finals.
The Verdict: Two of our five experts have the Warriors winning it all. The other 3 like San Antonio, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State looked like a potential front runner to repeat at one point. The brilliant offseasons by the Spurs and Clippers have made things a lot more difficult to project. Golden State may be the fourth best team in the Western Conference this year. To summarize things, the Warriors will enter the 2015-2016 NBA Season as the favorite to repeat, but most of us expect the Warriors to win a playoff series before losing in the divisional round of the 2016 NBA Playoffs to the eventual NBA Champion whether it be the Spurs, Clippers, or Thunder.
