Sun News WNBA: The Connecticut Sun hope to improve in 2024 after making the 2023 WNBA Playoffs.

Connecticut Sun 2024 Season Preview

The Connecticut Sun were able to get out of the first round of the 2023 WNBA Playoffs with power forward Alyssa Thomas. Can the Connecticut Sun take the next step in 2024?

The Connecticut Sun went 27-13 in 2023, but can they improve on that in 2024? The Connecticut Sun have Moriah Jefferson at point guard, Leila Lacan at shooting guard, Brionna Jones at forward, DeWanna Bonner at forward, and Alyssa Thomas at power forward. The Connecticut Sun have three leading scorers all at forward so expect the Sun to deploy three forwards.

Moriah Jefferson averaged 10.5 points per game and is under contract until 2026. Leila Lacan was drafted out of France, but could win the shooting guard job. Brionna Jones had 15.9 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game, 2.4 assissts per game, and 1.8 steals per game in 2023. DeWanna Bonner had a team best 17.4 points per game while also posting 5.6 rebounds per game, and 2.2 assists per game in 2023. Alyssa Thomas had 15.5 points per game, 9.9 rebounds per game, and 7.9 assists per game in 2023 leading the Sun in both rebounds and assists.

Brionna Jones, DeWanna Bonner, and Alyssa Thomas all enter contract years for the Connecticut Sun in 2024. I expect the Connecticut Sun to make the playoffs this season, but Connecticut may end up rebuilding in 2025 if they cannot return their core players after making the second round of the 2023 WNB Playoffs. Moriah Jefferson and Leila Lacan will be back at guard, but the three best scoring forwards on this team will enter contract years and I only see the Sun bringing back two of those three forwards if they fail to get to the second round of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs.
