The Atlanta Dream went 19-21 in 2023, but can they improve on that in 2024 with only three quality starters? The Atlanta Dream have Jordin Canada at point guard, Rhyne Howard at shooting guard, Allisha Gray is the third starter at guard, Chyenne Parker is a 6-4 power forward that is also versatile enough to small forward, and Tina Charles joined the Atlanta Dream at center after taking 2023 off after posting a good season in 2022.
Jordin Canada led the Los Angeles Sparks in assists per game in as Cadana had 13.3 points per game and 6 assists per game in 2023. Allisha Gray had 17.1 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 3.1 assists per game starting at point guard for the Atlanta Dream in 2023. Rhyne Howard was the 2022 WNBA Rookie Of The Year before scoring 17.5 points per game, posting 4.9 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game as as sophomore in 2023. Atlanta has quite the trio of guards, but the big question is which one will move to the 3 playing the wing. My guess is Howard because she's the tallest and her consistency on the court speaks for itself. She was also an assistant coach on the Florida Gators during the WNBA Offseason in Gainsville this past year.
The Atlanta Dream have a good front court with Chyenne Parker who averaged 15 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and 1.8 assists per game in 2023. The other player joining htis front court is center Tina Charles who had 14.8 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, and 2 assists per game in 2022 before taking a season off in 2023. Atlanta also has nobody dominating the 2024 WNBA Preseason so far, but I'm not putting too much stock into that.
The Atlanta Dream have all three of their starting guards under contract until 2026 with both front court players in contract years set to be UFA's in 2025. Atlanta feels like a team that can make the postseason, but I don't see the Dream making a deep run. Atlanta would lose to Las Vegas, New York, or Dallas. I feel like Atlanta would have to get the 4 or 5 seed and draw someone like Connecticut, Seattle, Indiana, or Los Angeles if they wanted a realistic shot to win a playoff series. The talent to get to another postseason is there for the Atlanta Dream though.
