Tony Mario's 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 5

Tony Mario follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: April 25, 2024.

  1. Denver Broncos: Audric Estime, RB, Notre Dame

Denver drafts a running back for depth here to start the fifth round. Both Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine enter contract years in 2024. It's not out of the realm of possibilites that Auric Estime is Denver's starting running back by 2025.

Here's a film cut of Notre Dame running back Audric Estime VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  2. New England Patriots: Khristian Boyd, NT, Northern Iowa

New England has Christian Barmore at 3-4 right end, Davon Godchaux at 3-4 nose tackle, and Keion White at 3-4 left end. New England also has Armani Watts as the backup 3-4 right end and Deatrich Wise Jr. as the backup 3-4 left end. Northern Iowa defensive tackle Khristian Boyd is big enough to play 4-3 defensive tackle as well as 3-4 nose tackle and with Davo Godchaux in a contract year, it makes total sense to draft a 3-4 nose tackle if the value is there because not only do you need depth there, New England could also get a future starter there in the fifth round.

  3. Arizona Cardinals: Zion Tupuloa-Fetui, 3-4 LOLB, Washington

Arizona gets a second 3-4 left outside linebacker for depth behind Zaven Collins, Arizona's 2021 first round pick who is more of an inside linebacker lining up on the outside than a true edge rusher. Arizona drafts Washington defensive end Zion Tupuloa-Fetui for depth for this reason.

Here's a film cut of Washington EDGE Zion Tupuloa-Fetui VS Oregon. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  4. Washington Commanders: Erick All, TE, Iowa

Washington has Zach Ertz in a contract year as a starting tight end, John Bates is the backup tight end in a contract year, and Cole Turner has two years left on his rookie deal. Washington will probably draft a fourth tight end, so that the Commanders don't have to pay multiple tight ends allowing Erick All to become a third string tight end by 2025.

  5. Los Angeles Chargers: Will Shipley, RB, Clemson

The Los Angeles Chargers get a fourth running back for depth. Starting running back J.K. Dobbins is under contract for one year. Backup running back Gus Edwards is under contract for two years along with third string running back Isaiah Spiller.

Clemson running back Will Shipley will start out as the fourth string running back. Will Shipley can be the third string running back in 2025 and potentially be the starting running back on the final two years of his rookie deal by 2026.

  6. Carolina Panthers: Jarrion Jones, CB, Florida State

Carolina has Jayce Horn as their number one field cornerback and Dane Jackson as their number two boundary cornerback for two more years. Troy Hill is in the final year of his contract at nickel cornerback. Jarrion Jones can start out in a dime cornerback role for depth, but would start at nickel cornerback the split second one of Carolina's top three cornerbacks got injured.

Carolina ended up getting Ja'Tavion Sanders and Jarrion Jones with the two draft picks they got from the New York Giants in the Brian Burns trade. That's not a bad return.

  7. Carolina Panthers: Keith Randolph Jr., NT, Illinois

Carolina drafts Keith Randolph Jr. here. He might beat out Shy Tuttle for the 3-4 nose tackle job. Carolina has Derrick Brown their 2020 first round pick at 3-4 right end and A'Shawn Robinson at 3-4 left end. Keith Randolph Jr. could end up being a backup 3-4 defensive end for depth, but he's got a fighting chance to win the 3-4 nose tackle job as a fifth round pick.

  8. Atlanta Falcons: Beau Brade, SS, Maryland

Atlanta drafts a strong safety to push both Demarco Hellams and Richie Grant for playing time. Beau Brade is a fifth round prospect, but some have a day 2 grade on him. He's a guy who could actually be a day 1 starter for Atlanta this late in the 2024 NFL Draft.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Sione Vaki, SS, Utah

The Buffalo Bills have Taylor Rapp at strong safety and Mike Edwards starting at free safety. Sione Vaki can get drafted as the backup strong safety while Damar Hamlin remains the backup free safety.

  10. Denver Broncos: Beaux Limmer, LG, Arkansas

Beaux Limmer has started at all five positions on the offensive line during his time in High School where he played both left tackle and right tackle before moving to the interior offensive line where he started at left guard, center, and right guard during his time at Arkansas.

Denver needs a backup left guard to Ben Powers. Ben Powers has three years left on his four year contract he signed last year, but Denver can buyout Ben Powers in 2025 if they want to. My guess is Beaux Limmer will be a backup left guard until at least 2026 and will not start until 2027 unless Ben Powers gets injured assuming Denver keeps Ben Powers for the duration of his contract.

  11. Tennessee Titans: Jaylin Simpson, CB, Auburn

Tennessee has L'Jarius Sneed at field cornerback, Chidobe Awuzie at boundary cornerback, and Roger McCreary at nickel cornerback. Jaylin Simpson can play cornerback, strong safety, or free safety giving Tennessee more depth in the secondary regardless of where you line him up.

  12. Denver Broncos: Ty'Ron Hopper, 3-4 MLB, Missouri

Denver gets a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth. Denver has Cody Barton and Alex Singleton as the starting 3-4 middle linebackers. Drew Sanders is the third 3-4 middle linebacker for depth. Ty'Ron Hopper will be the number four 3-4 middle linebacker this year with a trajectory to develop into a starter next to Drew Sanders by 2025 assuming neither Cody Barton or Alex Singelton gets extended.

  13. Las Vegas Raiders: Luke McCaffrey, WR, Rice

Let's be real, Luke McCaffrey would beat out Tre Tucker for the slot receiver job. Las Vegas would have DaVante Adams as the number one flanker wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers as the number two secondary wide receiver, and Luke McCaffrey as the slot receiver.

Las Vegas got four day 1 starters with their first five picks in this draft. Las Vegas also drafted Jordan Travis in the fourth round whose got a higher ceiling than both Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew II.

  14. Cincinnati Bengals: Tyler Grable, LT, Central Florida

Cincinnati currently has Jonah Williams at left tackle, Cordell Volson at left guard, Ted Karras at center, Alex Cappa at right guard, and Trent Brown at right tackle. Cincinnati gets Tyler Grable as a backup left tackle to Orlando Brown Jr.

  15. New Orleans Saints: Josh Newton, CB, TCU

New Orleans drafts Josh Newton as their nickel cornerback of the future. Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor both move to the ouside and the New Orleans Saints finally move on from the injury prone Marshon Lattimore to save cap space.

  16. Indianapolis Colts: Myles Cole, RE, Texas Tech

Indianapolis gets a 4-3 defensive end for depth. Indianapolis has Kwity Paye and Samson Ekubam starting at 4-3 defensive end. Indiaanpolis also has Dayo Odeyingbo and Tyquan Lewis as the backup 4-3 defensive ends. Drafting Myles Cole here at least gives you one pass rusher under contract in 2025 with as many as four defensive ends hitting the market if the Colts do not use a fifth year tender on Kwity Paye.

  17. Washington Commanders: Javion Cohen, LG, Miami FL

Javion Cohen can develop under Nick Allegretti for a year. He might be ready to start at left guard by 2025.

  18. Jacksonville Jaguars: Justin Egboigbe, 3-4 LE, Alabama

Jacksonville gets another body to compliment Da'Von Hamilton inside. Jacksonville has Arik Armstead at 3-4 right end, Da'Von Hamilton at 3-4 nose tackle, and Roy Robertson-Harris at 3-4 left end. Justin Egboigbe could challenge Roy Robertson-Harris for playing time as a rookie.

  19. Los Angeles Rams: Jermaine Burton, WR, Alabama

I'm aware of the fact that the Los Angeles Rams have Cooper Kupp at flanker wide receiver and Puka Nacua as their secondary wide receiver. In fact, Nacua was so dominant as a rookie he showed he could be the number one wide receiver when Kupp was out of the lineup. The Los Angeles Rams take Jermaine Burton and stash him for depth. Maybe an offensive genius like Sean McVay can get through to Jermaine Burton whose had off the field issues.

Here's a film cut of Alabama wide receiver Jermaine Burton VS Texas. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  20. Los Angeles Rams: A.J. Barner, TE, Michigan

The Los Angeles Rams have Tyler Higbee as the starting tight end. I feel like the Rams an add another blocking tight end for depth this late in the draft as a luxury pick if they want to and that's where Michigan tight end A.J. Barner comes into play.

  21. Cleveland Browns: Ray Davis, RB, Kentucky

Cleveland gets a third string running back for depth behind Nick Chubb and Jerome Ford. Ray Davis is a nice value pick in the fifth round.

  22. Minnesota Vikings: Marshawn Lloyd, RB, USC

Minnesota has Aaron Jones as the starting running back and Ty Chandler as the backup running back. Drafting Marshawn Lloyd as the third string running back wouldn't be a bad idea here.

  23. Miami Dolphins: Andru Phillips, CB, Kentucky

Miami has so much depth at cornerback even after losing Xavien Howard. The loss of Howard though feels so big that I see Miami drafting a cornerback for depth like Andru Phillips..

The 5-9 179 lb Daequan Hardy had 12 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, 22 total tackles, 7 deflections from pass breakups, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 interceptions, 1 sack, 1 kickoff return for 19 yards, 17 punt returns for 248 yards, and 2 touchdowns where Hardy got a touchdown on special teams for Penn State in 2023.

  24. Kansas City Chiefs: Curtis Jacobs, ROLB, Penn State

Kansas City gets a third string right outside linebacker in a 4-2-5 defense as well as a backup 4-3 right outside linebacker behind Dru Tranquill. Penn State outside linebacker Curtis Jacobs might be a fit here.

  25. Buffalo Bills: Malik Washington, WR, Virginia

Buffalo drafts a second wide receiver who may be a depth guy, but could be a slot receiver. I gave Buffalo Adonai Mitchell at 28 to be the number one wide receiver for Josh Allen and Khalil Shakir can be the secondary wide receiver for Josh Allen. Bringing in someone to compete with Justin Shorter for the slot receiver job is absolutely a must. One guy who could end up as Buffalo's slot receiver this late in the draft is Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington. The craziest part about my mock draft is that Chris Ransom also has Malik Washington to Buffalo in round 5 in this exact same spot. What are the odds?

  26. Philadelphia Eagles: Dillon Johnson, RB, Washington

Philadelphia has Saquon Barkley as their feature running back and Kenneth Gainwell as their change of pace running back in a contract year. Dillon Johnson would make a good third string running back in Philadelphia. Johnson could do some damage with Philadelphia's offensive line especially if they get Jackson Powers-Johnson in the first round.

The 5-9 192 lb Bucky Irving had 156 carries, 1,058 rushing yards, 5 rushing touchdowns, 31 receptions, 299 receiving yards, 3 receiving touchdowns, 187 touches, 1,357 total yards, and 8 total touchdowns in his first season at Oregon after transferring from Minnesota to Oregon in 2022. Bucky Irving had 186 carries, 1,180 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, 56 receptions, 413 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns, 242 touches, 1,593 total yards, and 13 total touchdowns in 2023.

Here's a film cut of Washington running back Dillon Johnson versus Oregon. You can watch the film cut I posted of Dillon Johnson below.

  27. Arizona Cardinals: Matt Goncalves, RT, Pittsburgh

Arizona can use a swing tackle here. Matt Goncalves can learn under Jonah Williams at right tackle in 2024 and he might be ready to start by 2025.

  28. Buffalo Bills: Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee

Buffalo gets a backup they can develop under Josh Allen and Mitchell Trubisky for a year before making the rookie they draft here the backup quarterback to Josh Allen and Mitchell Trubisky. The one quarterback who can throw a ball further in terms of distance than Josh Allen is Joe Milton, but he's even rawer than Allen was coming out of Wyoming. I guess that can work out for Joe Milton if the Buffalo Bills remain patient with him.

  29. Detroit Lions: Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State

Detroit has Taylor Decker at left tackle, Graham Glasgow at left guard, Frank Ragnow at center, Kevin Zeitler at right guard, and Penei Sewell at right tackle. Detroit won't be able to keep their core trio on this offensive line with Taylor Decker at left tackle, Frank Ragnow at center, and Penei Sewell at right tackle once Penei Sewell gets extended. It's probably easier to cut your losses with Ragnow then moving on from one of Detroit's offensive tackle.

Frank Ragnow is under contract until 2027. Hunter Nourzad can develop under Frank Ragnow for two years and then take over as the starting center in 2026 if Detroit buys out Frank Ragnow to save $12-million in cap space in 2026.

Here's a film cut of Penn State's offensive line VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  30. Baltimore Ravens: Delmar Glaze, C, Maryland

Baltimore only has one center on the depth chart. Delmar Glaze becomes a backup center to Tyler Linderbaum in Baltimore.

Baltimore has Ronnie Stanley at left tackle, Andrew Vorhees at left guard, Tyler Linberbaum at center, Ben Cleveland at right guard, and Amarius Mims who I mocked to Baltimore at 30 as a bookend to Ronnie Stanley. Baltimore has Patrick Mekari as a backup left tackle, Josh Jones as a backup left guard, Delmar Glaze as a backup center, and Daniel Faalele as a backup right tackle. Baltimore will be in great position with that kind of depth.

  31. New York Giants: Dominique Hampton, SS, Washington

New York has Jalen Mills at strong safety and Jason Pinnock at free safety. New York drafts Dominique Hampton here for depth at safety after losing Xavier McKinney.

  32. Minnesota Vikings: Jacob Cowing, WR, Arizona

Minnesota gets a slot receiver in the fifth round. Jacob Cowing would be a great replacement to K.J. Osborn as a slot receiver next to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. I believe Jacob Cowing is the only player picked in the fifth round so far that could be a day 1 starter.

  33. New Orleans Saints: Jalen McMillan, WR, Washington

New Orleans got this compensation pick at 168 thanks to the Atlanta Falcons signing a contract with defensive tackle David Onyemata, the New Orleans Saints 2016 fourth round pick during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. David Onyemata went from a 4-3 defensive tackle in New Orleans to a 3-4 nose tackle in Atlanta.

New Orleans replaces Michael Thomas with Jalen McMillan. Jalen McMillan provides fantastic value as a slot receiver or number two target to Chris Olave this late in the fifth round.

  34. Green Bay Packers: JD Bertrand, MLB, Notre Dame

Green Bay got this compensation pick at 169 thanks to undrafted Free Agent Allen Lazard, a former Iowa State wide receiver, signing with the New York Jets during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. I had a fourth round grade on Allen Lazard coming out of Iowa State, but the New York Jets only signed Allen Lazard to keep Aaron Rodgers happy.

Green Bay gets a day 1 starter at middle linebacker with Quay Walker moving to right outside linebacker. JD Bertrand is great value this late in the fifth round.

Here's a film cut of Notre Dame LB JD Bertrand VS Duke. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  35. New Orleans Saints: Josh Proctor, FS, Ohio State

New Orleans got this compensation pick at 170 thanks to the Minnesota Vikings signing a one year contract with defensive end Marcus Davenport, the New Orleans Saints 2018 first round pick during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Marcus Davenport went from a 4-3 right end in New Orleans to a 3-4 right outside linebacker in Minnesota. Now he goes back to a 4-3 defense in Detroit for the 2024 NFL Season where Davenport won't have to be the main guy thanks to Aidan Hutchinson in Detroit.

New Orleans drafts the right players out of Ohio State more times than not. Jordan Howden last years fifth round pick will not do well as a starter next to Tyrann Mathieu. Ohio State safety Josh Proctor is my top safety on the board and if New Orleans drafts him, he will be a steal in the 2024 NFL Draft given that he's considered a better prospect than Ronnie Hickman who went undrafted before making an impact with the Cleveland Browns as a backup safety.

  36. Philadelphia Eagles: Evan Williams, SS, Oregon

Philadelphia got this compensation pick at 171 thanks to their 2016 third round pick Isaac Suemalo signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Isaac Suemalo has experience starting at both guard spots and was Philadelphia's second player drafted in 2016 behind Carson Wentz.

Philadelphia has C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Reed Blankenship, and Sydney Brown at safety. Evan Williams would essentially be the number four and lowest ranked safety on this depth chart even though one more safety for depth is needed in Philadelphia.

  37. Philadelphia Eagles: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, WR, Georgia

Philadelphia got this compensation pick at 172 thanks to their 2019 first round pick Andre Dilard, a left tackle that played college at Washington State signing with the Tennessee Titans during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Andre Dillard's injuries kept him from getting a shot to be the starting left tackle in Philadelphia before Andre Dillard crashed and burned in Tennessee.

Philadelphia has taken a lot of Georgia players as of late. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint could end up being a good number four wide receiver that develops into a slot receiver if DeVante Parker gets injured in 2024.

  38. Kansas City Chiefs: Isaac Guerendo, RB, Louisville

Kansas City got this compensation pick at 173 thanks to their starting right tackle Andrew Wylie signing with the Washington Commanders during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Kansas City got this pick thanks to Washington's GM wanting to re-unite Andrew Wylie with his former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy whose no longer on the Washington Commanders.

Kansas City needs one more running back for depth behind Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Isaac Guerendo might be a good replacement to Jerrick McKinnon.

  39. Dallas Cowboys: Andrew Raym, C, Oklahoma

Dallas got this compensation pick at 174 thanks to their 2019 third round pick Connor McGovern signing with the Buffalo Bills during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Connor McGovern went from being a okay starter on Dallas during his rookie deal to blossoming into a good starter in his first year in Buffalo. Connor McGovern impresse Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane enough to earn a promotion from left guard to center on the interior offensive line.

Dallas gets their starting center in the fifth round. Dallas now has Troy Fautanu at left tackle, Tyler Smith at left guard, Andrew Raym at center, Zack Martin at right guard, and Terrence Steele at right tackle. I also gave Dallas Blake Corum as the first running back on the board in the second round.

Here's a film cut of Oklahoma's offensive line VS Texas. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  40. New Orleans Saints: Cody Schraeder, RB, Missouri

New Orleans got this compensation pick at 175 thanks to the Atlanta Falcons signing a contract with defensive end Kaden Elliss, the New Orleans Saints 2019 seventh round pick during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Kaden Elliss went from a backup 4-3 defensive end in New Orleans to a 3-4 middle in Atlanta.

New Orleans has three quality running backs in Alvin Kamara, Jamaal Williams, an Kendre Miller. Cody Schraeder led the SEC in rushing yards. He can play fourth string running back as a rookie and then New Orleans can buyout Jamaal Williams to save $2,290,000 in cap space heading into next years offseason in 2025.

  41. San Francisco 49ers: Tyrice Knight, MLB, UTEP

San Francisco got this compensation pick at 176 thanks to the Indianapolis Colts signing a contract with defensive end Samson Ekubam during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Samson Ekubam came into San Francisco and showed he could be a viable starter at 4-3 left end and has continued that success in Indianapolis entering his second season as the starting 4-3 left end on the Indianapolis Colts.

San Francisco gets a backup middle linebacker to Fred Warner. Tyrice Knight would be a great additon here.
