If Carolina goes with a pass rusher and tight end in the second round, they have to take a wide receiver by 65 at the very latest. Diontae Johnson is only under contract for one year as Carolina is banking on Pittsburgh's number one wide receiver that lined up at flanker receiver the past three years to save Bryce Young's career, which he won't given his history with drops. Carolina can also buyout Adam Thielen and save $3,416,000 in 2025. Jonathan Mingo is talented, but certainly not a number one guy for Bryce Young. Roman Wilson might be able to become a number one guy for Bryce Young after being the number one wide receiver on a Michigan Wolverines team that went 15-0 in 2023.
Arizona gets another wide receiver that can force Michael Wilson inside to a slot receiver role. Just imagine how much damage Kyler Murray can do with Marvin Harrison Jr. as his number one target, Ja'Lynn Polk as his number two target, Michael Wilson inside at slot receiver, and Trey McBride at tight end.
Here's a film cut of Washington wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk VS Oregon. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Washington has Clelin Ferrell at 4-3 right end, Dorance Armstrong Jr. at 4-3 left end, and Dante Fowler Jr. as a situational edge rusher with the latter two of those three guys playing with Dan Quinn in Dallas. Reloading at pass rusher in Free Agency is why I don't see Washington taking a pass rusher until the third round as Adisa Isaac will be drafted for depth as the backup 4-3 left end here as Dorance Armstrong Jr. is under contract until 2027 with no buyout until 2026.
New England should be able to get a number one wide receiver for their quarterback at 68. Ricky Pearsall looked good at Florida despite lackluster quarterback play at times. With Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels getting drafted by New England, I can see Ricky Pearsall turning things around on the New England Patriots. New England has a lot of depth at wide receiver, but not a true number one target. Ricky Pearsall could be that alpha X wide receiver or difference maker for New England's third overall pick at quarterback.
The Los Angeles Chargers get a third day 1 starter at 3-4 left end. Kris Jenkins would be an upgrade over Morgan Fox at 3-4 left end. Los Angeles would have Poona Ford at 3-4 right end, Otito Ogbonnia at 3-4 nose tackle, and Kris Jenkins at 3-4 left end.
New York drafts a running back in the third round that can be a day 1 starter. Jonathon Brooks will be one of the first three running backs drafted and he's someone that could be a day 1 starter on the New York Giants.
Here's a film cut of Texas running back Jonathon Brooks VS Oklahoma. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Arizona gets a center that can be a day 1 starter. Christian Haynes is a bargain in the third round. Arizona would have Paris Johnson Jr. at left tackle, Elijah Wilkinson at left guard, Christian Haynes at center, Will Hernandez at right guard, and Jonah Williams at right tackle.
The New York Jets get their successor to Aaron Rodgers in the third round. Spencer Rattler is raw, but has an NFL ready arm. He just needs to get his accuracy, footwork, progressions, and decision making up to where his arm is. Spencer Rattler also gets to develop under Aaron Rodgers.
Here's a film cut of South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler VS North Carolina. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Detroit gets another middle linebacker to stash and develop. Derrick Barnes took the 4-3 middle linebacker job from Jack Campbell, but Barnes Detroit's 2021 fourth round pick enters the final year of his rookie deal. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. the son of Jeremiah Trotter is an ideal fit for the Detroit Lions at 4-3 middle linebacker as someone Detroit could develop into either a starter or a high end backup depending on how Jeremiah Trotter Jr. does against Jack Campbell in training camp.
Atlanta drafts an offensive tackle for depth behind thier two first round picks Jake Mathews from the 2014 NFL Draft at left tackle and Kaleb McGary Atlanta's 2019 first round pick. Atlanta can save $9.2-million by cutting Jake Matthews in 2025 and Atlanta can save $14.5-million by cutting Kaleb McGary in 2025. Yale left tackle Kiran Amigadjie started out at right guard before moving over to left tackle meaning it is possible that Kiran Amigadjie could play right taclke if McGary gets bought out. Kiran Amigadjie would begin his rookie season in Atlanta as the swing tackle as long as Jake Matthews and Kaleb McGary are on this roster due to Atlanta's lack of depth at offensive tackle.
I don't see Atlanta cutting either Jake Matthews or Kaleb McGary as long as both offensive tackles continue to play at a high level. I believe if Atlanta drafts Kiran Amigadje here, they would trade Jake Matthews to the highest bidder since Jake Matthews finished 30th out of 81 offensive tackles on Pro Football Focus in 2023 while Kaleb McGary finished 20th out of 81 offensive tackles in 2023. Last yar was the first time Kaleb McGary finished ahead of Jake Matthews on Pro Football Focus.
If that trend continues in 2024, I can see Atlanta trading Jake Matthews for whatever they can get if they draft someone like Kiran Amigadjie here in the third round since Jake Matthews is 32 and Kiran Amigadjie is 22 being a full decade younger than Jake Matthews. There will be teams in the AFC like the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and New York Jets that would trade for a left tackle as consistent as Jake Matthews with there being a market for Jake Matthews even at his age with Jake Matthews current contract running through 2027, meaning that if a team traded for Jake Matthews, they would get two quality years out of Matthews.
Atlanta can also keep Kiran Amigadjie as a swing tackle for his first two years and develop him into either a starter at left tackle to succeed Jake Matthews since he's a full decade younger than Matthews or he can move over to right tackle replacing Kaleb McGary. The possibilities are endless with Kiran Amigadjie, but for now he's getting drafted as the swing tackle even though he's the only left tackle left on the board that could be a day 1 starter at left tackle.
Chicago Bears: Christian Mahogany, RG, Boston College
Chicago drafts their right guard of the future. Nate Davis is now a liability after two decent sesaons at right guard during his first two years in the NFL in 2019 and 2020, he's regressed every year since. Chicago can save $9.5-million in 2025 by buying out Nate Davis.
Drafting Boston College right guard Christian Mahogany who allowed 0 sacks in 2023 is a long-term upgrade over Nate Davis at right guard, but Mahogany will be learning under Nate Davis as long as Nate Davis stays healthy. If Nate Davis plays well enough to stay on the roster, Christian Mahogany moves over to left guard to replace Teven Jenkins at left guard. Christian Mahogany would be a swing guard during his rookie season in 2024, but could become a regular starter in 2025.
Denver cannot role with Jarrett Stidham as their starting quarterback. Denver has Zach Wilson, Jarrett Stidham, and Ben DiNucci as their top three quarterbacks. Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt may remind Sean Payton of Drew Brees.
This is one situation where Michael Pratt could potentially start right out of the gate in Denver. You can also wait until Denver has better weapons to start Michael Pratt if you want to play the long game and patiently develop Michael Pratt during his rookie season.
Las Vegas drafts a day 1 starter at defensive tackle to pair with Christian Wilkins so they get LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo. Las Vegas would have Malcolm Koonce at 4-3 right end, Christian Wilkins at 4-3 defensive tackle, Mekhi Wingo at 4-3 defensive tackle, and Maxx Crosby at 4-3 left end.
The Washington Commanders draft a running back here at 78 with the pick they got from Seattle in the Sam Howell trade. Austin Ekeler signed a two year contract with a buyout option that saves the Washington Commanders $3.610,000 in 2025. Brian Robinson Jr. goes from starting as a rookie and sophomore to being the second string running back in the third year of his rookie deal and he's already 25. Chris Rodriguez Jr. is 23 following his rookie season as Washington's 2023 sixth round pick
Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright is only 21-years old and would be the youngest running back on Washington's roster. He could start as early as 2025 if Austin Ekeler gets bought out and would start by 2026 at the very latest when Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr.'s contracts expire.
Atlanta gets a nickel cornerback here with the pick they acquired from Jacksonville in the Calvin Ridley trade. Atlanta would have A.J. Terrell at field cornerback, Clark Phillips III moving from nickel to boundary cornerback, and Khyree Jackson would be Atlanta's new nickel cornerback.
Here's a Khyree Jackson film cut versus Utah. Khyree Jackson dominated versus Utah.
Cincinnati drafts a defensive tackle for depth behind Sheldon Rankins and B.J. Hill. Maason Smith can develop for a year and take over for B.J. Hill in 2025.
Seattle can buyout their 3-4 left end Leonard Williams after this season and save $12,550,000 in cap space. After giving Seattle Byron Murphy II at 16, I'm doubling up at 3-4 left end and getting another guy who could be an eventual NFL starter in Oregon 3-4 left end Brandon Dorlus.
Here's a film cut of Oregon EDGE Brandon Dorlus VS Washington. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Indianapolis drafts a right tackle to develop for the future in Notre Dame right tackle Blake Fisher. Both Indianapolis Colts left tackle Bernhard Raimann and Indianapolis Colts right tackle Braden Smith are UFA's in 2026. Raimann is two years younger than Smith despite still being on a rookie deal while Smith will turn 30 days after the 2026 NFL Free Agency Period starts.
Indianapolis can save $16,750,000 in 2025 by cutting Braden Smith. You can use that money to either extend Bernard Raimann or center Ryan Kelly who has an expiring contract in 2025 after being the Indianapolis Colts 2016 first round pick.
Bernhard Raimann was 8th among 81 offensive tackles on Pro Football Focus at left tackle, Quinton Nelson is the best left guard in the NFL, Ryan Kelly enters a contract year after finishing 8th among centers on Pro Football Focus, and Braden Smith finished 6th among 81 offensive tackles despite missing games with injuries in 2023. This puts the Indianapois Colts in a really tough spot in terms of maintaining continuity on the offensive line.
Braden Smith got injured multiple times in 2023 which is why I believe there is a strong chance Smith gets bought out after this season if he cannot stay healthy with the Indidanpolis Colts in 2024 even after finishing ahead of both Raimann and Kelly on Pro Football Focus since you can use the money you'd get from cutting Braden Smith to either extend your 2016 first round pick or your young left tackle who might be willing to take less than that to agree to a team friendly extension with the Indianapolis Colts.
Here's a film cut of Notre Dame's offensive line VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
The Los Angeles Rams get their 3-4 right outside linebacker that can be a day 1 starter here in the third round. Mohammed Kamara looked like a potential day 3 steal against Colorado. The Los Angeles Rams can draft the 248 lb edge rusher as a 3-4 outside linebacker that starts day 1 with Byron Young complimenting him in the third round if they take Jer'Zhan Newton in the first round and BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamatia in the second round.
Pittsburgh gets a wide receiver in the third round that can be a secondary wide receiver to George Pickens. I don't trust either Van Jefferson the replacement to Diontae Johnson or Quez Watkins the replacement to Allen Robinson. Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley is an upgrade over both Van Jefferson and Quez Watkins as drafting Corley allows you to move Van Jefferson to slot receiver and Quez Watkins becomes your number four wide receiver. Malachi Corley doesn't drop as many balls as Van Jefferson and is a better route runner too. Corley is also a superb blocker and would open things up in the running game for running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. You would also have Pat Freiermuth at tight end and Darnell Washington Jr. as your number two tight end as your weapons in the passing game for quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
Cleveland drafts Roger Rosengarten here as Roger Rosengarten would develop for two years behind Wyatt Teller at right guard. Roger Rosengarten could take over at right guard in 2026 when Wyatt Teller becomes a UFA.
Here's a film cut of Washington's offensive line VS Oregon. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Houston gets a day 1 starter here with their third pick after drafting West Virginia center Zach Frazier and Clemson defensive tackle Ruke Orhoroho with their first two picks. Caelen Carson can start out as a nickel cornerback complimenting Derek Stingley Jr. at field cornerback and Jeffrey Okudah at boundary cornerback. I also believe Calean Carson could be Houston's number two cornerback replacing Okudah on a rookie deal as early as 2025.
Dallas lost Jonathan Hankins at 4-3 defensive tackle. Dallas has 2023 first round pick Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa at 4-3 defensive tackle, but needs bodies for depth. T'Vondre Sweat is a good replacement for Neville Gallimore who Dallas also lost in addition to Jonathan Hankins at 4-3 defensive tackle.
T'Vondre Sweat was a second round player before his off the field incident leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft. Dallas can gamble on Sweat this late in the third round if they don't want to pay Osa Odighizuwa whose on the final year of his rookie deal. Both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are unrestricted Free Agents in 2025 while Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys best defensive player will be on the fifth year option in his rookie deal. That's why drafting T'Vondre Sweat to pair with Mazi Smith isn't as dumb as it sounds since he can develop behind Osa Odighizuwa this year if Osa Odighizuwa doesn't get extended.
Here's a film cut of Texas DL T'Vondre Sweat VS Oklahoma. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Green Bay is moving to a 4-3 defense. Both Kenny Clark and Tedarius Slaton enter contract years. Green Bay could develop Clemson defensive tackle Tyler Davis for a year before pairing him with Devonte Wyatt. Kenny Clark was Green Bay's best defensive tackle on Pro Football Focus, so if he gets extended, Davis would be a depth piece to both Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt. If Green Bay lets Clark walk, Tyler Davis could be starting next to Green Bay's 2022 first round pick Devonte Wyatt. Colby Wooden was more of a 3-4 guy for Green Bay and the same could be said with Karl Brooks.
Tampa Bay drafts a 3-4 middle linebacker after losing Devin White. Lavonte David is back as a starter with K.J. Britt starting in a contract year. Tampa Bay can draft Cedric Gray as he's the one middle linebacker that could supplant K.J. Britt as a day 1 starter. If Gray doesn't supplant K.J. Britt, Cedric Gray and SirVocea Dennis can compete for the starting 3-4 middle linebacker job next to Lavonte David if he doesn't retire in 2025. I like Cedric Gray in that competition.
Arizona gets a 3-4 middle linebacker that can start next to Kyzir White. I don't trust Krys Barnes whose the current projected starter and believe Junior Colson could beat him out for the other starting 3-4 middle linebacker job across from Kyzir White. Mack Wilson signed a three year deal with Arizona as the backup 3-4 middle linebacker to Kyzir White and should take over for White in 2025 while Junior Colson starts on a rookie deal right out of the gate.
Green Bay needs a free safety next to Xavier McKinney at strong safety. USC safety Calen Bullock can play strong safety or free safety with his versatility. Calen Bullock will push Anthony Johnson Jr. for the free safety job across from Xavier McKinney and my prediction is Bullock wins that competiton. With Calen Bullock being 20 and Anthony Johnson Jr. being 24, making Bullock the long-term starter at free safety and kepeing Anthony Johnson Jr. as the backup through the duration of his rookie deal is the best business decision for the Green Bay Packers.
Tampa Bay uses this third round pick that they got from Detroit in the Carlton Davis trade to draft a replacement at center. Sedrick Van Pran is the one center left in this draft that can be a day 1 starter at center. Tampa Bay would have Tristian Wirfs at left tackle, Sua Opeta at left guard, Sedrick Van Pran at center, Cody Mauch at right guard, and Luke Goedeke at right tackle.
The Baltimore Ravens do not have a backup strong safety or a backup free safety behind Kyle Hamilton or Marcus Williams on the depth chart. Some believe Cole Bishop is a top three safety in this draft, so Baltimore can draft Cole Bishop for depth here at safety as a replacement to Geno Stone.
San Francisco gets a starting right guard here. Zak Zinter is talented enough to beat out Jon Feliciano and Spencer Burford as the starting right guard while Jon Feliciano and Spencer Burford become the backup guards. San Francisco would have Trent Williams at left tackle, Aaron Banks at left guard, Jake Brendel at center, Zak Zinter at right guard, and Colton McKivitz at right tackle.
Kansas City gets a strong safety for depth with Justin Reid in a contract year. Kansas City has Travis Kelce in a contract year in 2025, Chris Jones under contract until 2025, Creed Humphrey in the final year of his rookie deal at center, Trey Smith in the final year of his rookie deal at right guard, and Nick Bolton in the final year of his rookie deal at middle linebacker. Realistically, Brett Veach cannot pay everyone, so drafting an athetic safety like Jaden Hicks to develop his coverage under Justin Reid for a year before taking over at strong safety next to free safety Bryan Cook might be the decision that the Kansas City Chiefs make here at 95.
Jacksonville got this compensation pick at 96 thanks to Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 second round pick Jawaan Taylor signing a huge contract with the Kansas City Chiefs at right tackle during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Jawaan Taylor got a Super Bowl ring at right tackle in Kansas City, but Jacksonville got the first compensation pick in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to Jawaan Taylor signing in Kansas City.
Jacksonville has Chrisitan Kirk at flanker receiver, Gabriel Davis as the secondary wide receiver, and Zay Jones is the slot receiver. Jacksonville drafts Devontez Walker to compete with Zay Jones for the slot receiver job. Jacksonville could still draft a wide receiver in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft if Devontez Walker struggles as a rookie while still stashing him on this roster as the number four wide receiver on Jacksonville's depth chart. If Walker does well in the slot, he can stay on the roster as your slot receiver where he won't make 1 million dollars until the third year of his rookie deal.
Cincinnati got this compensation pick at 97 thanks to Cincinnati Bengals 2018 second round pick Jessie Bates III signing with the Atlanta Falcons during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Cincinnati has two third round picks thanks to Jessie Bates III taking the bag to play elsewhere.
Cincinnati gets a day 1 starter at tight end with this final third round pick. Cade Stover is a massive steal at this point this late in the third round.
Here's a film cut of Ohio State tight end Cade Stover VS Notre Dame. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Philadelphia got this compensation pick at 98 when their defensive tackle Javon Hargrave signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Philadelphia ended up trading this compensation pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers to get their former starting quarterback Kenny Pickett as a backup quarterback to Jalen Hurts which is ironic because the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Javon Hargrave in the 2016 NFL Draft before he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in Free Agency following his rookie deal.
Pittsburgh has Alex Highsmith at 3-4 right outside linebacker, T.J. Watt at 3-4 left outside linebacker, and Nick Herbig as the backup 3-4 right outside linebacker as well as the backup 3-4 left outside linebacker as Nick Herbig filled in for T.J. Watt when Watt got injured. Pittsburgh should draft a fourth sack artist at pass rusher if the value is there.
Pittsburgh can keep both Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt until 2026. If Pittsburgh wants to pay Watt before 2026 they would have to cut Highsmith in 2025 to save $6.6-million and start either Nick Herbig or Jonah Elliss in 2025. If Pittsburgh manages to keep both Highsmith and Watt before paying Watt in 2026, the Pittsburgh Steelers can save $11.3-million by getting out of their contract with Highsmith in 2026. I wouldn't part with Highsmith unless you don't have the cap space to keep him and Watt. Watt is a top 5 defensive player in the league, but his injury history is starting to head down a similar trajectory as his older brother J.J. Watt which is why Pittsburgh needs to draft someone like Jonah Elliss for depth here.
The Los Angeles Rams got this comepnsation pick at 99 thanks to Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris getting hired to be the Atlanta Falcons head coach. Los Angeles, like Cincinnati has multiple third round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams signed Darious Williams to a three year contract at field cornerback and signed Tre'Davious White to a one year contract at boundary cornerback. Decobie Durant can remain your nickel cornerback. Cam Hart would most likely start out as a dime cornerback as a rookie, but would be able to start as a rookie if Darious Williams, Tre'Davious White, or Decobie Durant gets injured.
Tre'Davious White could be replaced as early as 2025 if his injury history on the Buffalo Bills continues with the Los Angeles Rams. You'd also be able to develop Hart for a year and start him on a rookie deal in 2025 if Cam Hart stays healthy. Cam Hart is already amazing in man coverage, but you'd be able to develop him more in zone coverage and press coverage if he's on the bench learning under veterans like Damarious Williams and Tre'Davious White.
Here's a film cut of Notre Dame cornerback Cam Hart VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
San Francisco got this compensation pick at 100 thanks to the Tennessee Titans hiring former San Francisco 49ers assistant General Manager Ran Carthon as the Tennessee Titans new General Manager and the Tennessee Titans AFC South Rival, the Houston Texans hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their head coach. That's how San Francisco got the 100th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but San Francisco sent this pick to the Washington Commanders for defensive end Chase Young. Adam Peters got hired as the Washington Commanders new GM after being the assistant GM for John Lynch in 2023 taking over that position that Ran Carthon previously held before being hired as Washington's new GM for the 2024 NFL Season. Now Adam Peters gets to make the final pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft as the Washington Commanders GM as a result of the Chase Young trade.
Washington already has a ton of depth at cornerback. Michael Davis and Benjamin St. Juste enter contract years. Washington could have Emmanuel Forbes at field cornerback covering number one receivers, Quan Martin at boundary cornerback covering number two receivers as a 2023 second round pick behind Emmanuel Forbes who was Washington's 2023 first round pick, and D.J. James at nickel cornerback in 2025 with those corners as your top three cornerbacks for the next two years starting in 2025.
