Chicago traded Justin Fields. North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is my top signal caller, but I doubt Chicago drafts another quarterback from North Carolina after the Mitchell Trubisky disaster especially with two Heisman Trophy Winners in Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels still on the board.
Caleb Williams has been the top quarterback in mock drafts all year. I believe Chicago will end up drafting him at 1 and Caleb Williams will have the best supporting cast of the three quarterbacks. Here's what Chris Ransom had to say about Caleb Williams supporting cast.
Caleb Williams will have quite the supporting cast on offense with D.J. Moore as his flanker wide receiver, Keenan Allen as his secondary wide receiver after being the number one wide receiver on the Los Angeles Chargers for seven years, Cole Kmet at tight end, D'Andre Swift at running back with Khari Blasinggame at fullback. Chicago's offensive line also has Braxton Miller at left tackle, Teven Jenkins at left guard, Ryan Bates takes over at center, Nate Davis remains at right guard, and Darnell Wright enters year two at right tackle after going tenth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Caleb Williams has a pretty good supporting cast to make an immediate impact in the NFL.
Here's a film cut of USC quarterback Caleb Williams VS San Jose State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Washington traded Sam Howell for a 2024 third round pick. I'm honestly torn on Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye at 2. Something tells me Washington ends up taking Jayden Daniels since he's the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner. I also believe it is unlikely that Washington drafts Drake Maye the successor to Sam Howell at North Carolina as Sam Howell's replacement here.
Washington will have Austin Ekeler at running back, Terry McLaurin at flanker wide receiver, Jahan Dotson will be the secondary wide receiver, Olamide Zaccheaus at slot receiver, Zach Ertz at tight end, Braden Daniels at left tackle, Nick Allegretti at left guard, Tyler Biadasz at center, Sam Cosmi at right tackle, and Andrew Wylie at right tackle. Jayden Daniels should have some success with this supporting cast.
Jayden Daniels will have quite the supporting cast in the Nations Capital. It's not quite what Caleb Williams has, but Jayden Daniels can succeed with this supporting cast if you get a left tackle at 36 or 40 with your two second round picks.
Here's a Jayden Daniels film cut versus Alabama. Jayden Daniels looked great versus Alabama.
New England drafts my top quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft in Drake Maye at 3. Drake Maye will have the worst supporting cast of the top three quarterbacks, but he's used to that since Drake Maye had the worst supporting cast of the top six quarterbacks in College Football. I don't see New England moving this pick unless Minnesota gives them 3 or 4 first round picks including 11 and 23.
Here's a film cut of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye VS South Carolina. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Arizona will not move the fourth pick unless they get a bare minimum of three first round picks. Who can blame them? Arizona needs a number one flanker wide receiver for Kyler Murray in the worst way possible.
>
Arizona gets a number one wide receiver for Kyler Murray. I believe Arizona has been locked into Marvin Harrison Jr. since the regular season ended. Arizona could also take LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, but I believe Arizona takes another Ohio State Buckeye in the first round after taking offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. in 2023, whose moving from right tackle in 2023 to left tackle in 2024.
Marvin Harrison Jr. is the son of former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison. He also won the Billetnikoff Award in 2023.
Here's a Marvin Harrison Jr. film cut versus Notre Dame and Penn State. Marvin Harrison Jr. dominated versus Penn State and that's the film cut embedded into this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
I wanted to do a trade here. That was before the Los Angeles Chargers GM said they are staying at 5 and taking the best player on their board at 5.
The Los Angeles Chargers moved on from both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams There's only so much that Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnston, the Los Angeles Chargers 2023 first round pick out of TCU can do. Most have LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers here. Rome Oduzne has the size advantage over Malik Nabers and I'm also looking at how the Chargers draft historically.
Los Angeles goes for a lot of College players on the West Coast and the midwest, but they will draft someone in the Northeast or the Southeast if that player is the undisputed best player on the board. I honestly cannot say that about Nabers. The 6-3 212 lb Rome Oduzne is more appealing to me and Jim Harbaugh has familiarity with Oduzne coaching against him in Michigan's Natioanl Title win before making the jump to the NFL.
I posted a film cut of Washington wide receiver Rome Oduzne VS Oregon. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
New York's GM said they are happy with their quarterbacks, but will draft one if the value is there. That tells me New York will finally get a number one wide receiver for quarterback Daniel Jones at 6 after paying Daniel Jones $40-million last year.
Here's a Malik Nabers film cut versus Alabama. Malik Nabers dominated versus Alabama.
Tennessee gets a blindside for quarterback Will Levis. The 6-9 321 lb Joe Alt dominated at left tackle during his time at Notre Dame. He also did well at the 2024 NFL Combine.
Joe Alt can pass block, run block, and zone block. The pass blocking footwork, pass blocking strength, run blocking footwork, and run blocking strength you want from a blindside at left tackle is there. Joe Alt allowed 0 sacks, 8 pressures, and finished as the top ranked offensive tackle on 406 pass blocking snaps in 2022. Joe Alt got promoted to team captain and allowed 1 sack and 5 pressures on 368 pass blocking snaps while also being a finalist for the Lombardi Trophy which goes to the top offensive lineman in 2023.
The Tennessee Titans would have Joe Alt at left tackle, Peter Skoronski at left guard, Lloyd Cushenberry at center, Daniel Brunskull at right guard, and Nicholas Petit-Frierre back at right tackle where he had more success as a rookie compared to his second season. If those five offensive linemen are healthy, the running back tandem of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears can make big plays on the ground taking presure off of Will Levis. Drafting Joe Alt is the only way to keep Will Levis from becoming a sure fire bust at quarterback because wide receivers like DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Treylon Burks moving to the slot at wide receiver with Chogoziem Okonkwo at tight end isn't enough with a poorous offensive line.
Here's a film cut of Notre Dame's offensive line VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Atlanta gets a 3-4 right outside linebacker that opposing left tackles have to account for. Luckily for Atlanta, all of the top three edge rushers have experience playing that role. Alabama edge Dallas Turner, Florida State edge Jared Verse, and UCLA edge Laiatu Latu all would be excellent picks here. Dallas Turner played with last years Defensive Rookie Of The Year in Will Anderson Jr. and he's also got the most experience as far as playing in a playoff game getting Alabama to this years College Football Playoff.
Dallas Turner had 20 of his 33 quarterback hurries in the first half of the season. His big knock was run stuffing, but he fixed that against Michigan in this years College Football Playoff. Dallas Turner also ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine after posting 14.5 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks to go with his 33 quarterback pressures in Nick Saban's final season as Alabama's head coach.
Here's a film cut of Alabama EDGE Dallas Turner VS Texas. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
The rumor is that Chicago wants Rome Oduzne or Jared Verse at 9 to pair with Caleb Williams by getting a second blue chip player at a major position of need with Chicago happy with their current offensive tackle situation with Braxton Miller at left tackle and last years first round pick Darnell Wright at right tackle. Rome Oduzne is off my board, so Chicago drafts Jared Verse to be the starting 4-3 left end after paying 4-3 right end Montez Sweat a four year extension after trading a second round pick to the Washington Commanders for Montez Sweat at 40.
Chicago would have Montez Sweat at 4-3 right end, Andrew Billings at 4-3 defensive tackle, Gervon Dexter Sr. one of their two 2023 second round picks starting at 4-3 defensive tackle in year two after learning the playbook in year one, and Jared Verse starting at 4-3 left end. That will be a formidable defensive line to gameplan against if everyone is healthy. Chicago will also have Demarcus Walker another former Florida State defensive end as a situational defensive end as well as mentor to Jared Verse. Zacch Pickens, the Chicago Bears 2023 third round pick is the backup to Andrew Billings as well as a situational defensive tackle on the interior. Jacob Martin a former Indianapolis Colt is the current situational edge rusher, but that will change if Chicago drafts Jared Verse at 9 allowing Martin to be utilized much more effectively as a number four defensive end.
New York gets a playmaker for Aaron Rodgers since the New York Jets are in win now mode for Aaron Rodgers. New York fixed their offensive line in Free Agency, so taking a guy who was once considered the third best player behind Caleb Williams and Marvin Harrison jr. in Georgia tight end Brock Bowers at 10 is the best pick the New York Jets can make.
Here's a film cut of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers VS Ole Miss. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
The Minnesota Vikings will try to trade up for a quarterback without giving up three first round picks. I believe Minnesota will draft J.J. McCarthy at 11 even though it feels too early to draft him here.
Caleb Williams will start day 1 in Chicago. Washington traded Sam Howell and signed Marcus Mariota with the intention of starting the quarterback they draft at 2 right away. Whoever New Englnad drafts at 3 should start in week 1 as long as they follow the script and take whoever Washington passes on between Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye at 3 since those two can beat out Jacoby Brissett. I cannot say the same about J.J. McCarthy as that's the one quarterback in this draft among the top 4 that I believe Jacoby Brissett can beat out in training camp.
J.J. McCarthy will challenge Sam Darnold for the right to be Minnesota's week 1 starter. McCarthy should start in week 1, but if he doesn't then Sam Darnold will start until week 4 like Mitchell Trubisky in Pittsburgh during Kenny Pickett's rookie year. The worst case scenario for J.J. McCarthy is he doesn't get to play until Minnesota's bye week.
I posted a film cut of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Denver a blue chip pass rusher that makes quarterbacks quiver in fear and intimiates left tackles like Bradley Chubb with Denver before being traded to Miami. Laiatu Latu had a pass rush win rate of over 25 percent each of the last two years at UCLA despite his medicals at Washington prior to transferring to UCLA.
Las Vegas gets a bookend right tackle to their best offensive linemen Kolton Miller at left tackle. Taliese Fuaga is the right tackle on Oregon State. Taliese Fuaga had the best interview among offensive tackles at the 2024 NFL Combine while Olumuyiwa Fashanu got injured running the 40-yard dash which is why Fuaga is now my second offensive tackle to get drafted.
Having Kolton Miller and Taliese Fuaga as your offensive tackles gives Aidan O'Connell a clean pocket entering year two at quarterback. Zamir White should also have more success at running back with these two offensive tackles after filling in for an injured Josh Jacobs down the stretch. I don't think the Raiders situation at quarterback and running back is the greatest, but the offensive tackle tandem of Kolton Miller and Taliese Fuaga will make this offensive line better putting the Raiders starters at quarterback and running back in a position to succeed.
New Orleans may need multiple upgrades at offensive tackle. Trevor Penning got benched down the stretch in year two, but will get one more chance to break out as the New Orleans Saints 2022 first round pick unless someone like Olumuyiwa Fashanu falls to this pick at 14. Ryan Ramczyk may not play this season with how bad his knee injury is. New Orleans gets Olumuyiwa Fashanu here who can start at left tackle day 1 for thew New Orleans Saints.
Derek Carr now has a competent blindside. Chris Olave, Derek Carr's number one wide receiver enters the third year of his rookie deal too. New Orleans will have quarterback Derek Carr, left tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu, wide receiver Chris Olave, and running back Alvin Kamara as the core chess pieces on this offense. The depth New Orleans currently has at running back with Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller as the backup and third string running backs is nice too.
I posted a film cut of Penn State's offensive line VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Indianapolis goes a cornerback at 15. Quinyon Mitchell would come in right away and be the number one field cornerback. JuJu Brents formerly known as Julius Brents, would move to boundary cornerback after the Indianapolis Colts 2023 second round pick out of Kansas State dealt with injuries as a rookie. Quinyon Mitchell is the only cornerback in this draft that can supplant JuJu Brents as a field cornerback, so the Indianapolis Colts get him at 15. Kenny Moore would remain the nickel cornerback and Dallis Flowers, last years boundary cornerback moves into a dime cornerback role.
Chris mentioned that Seattle has Dre'Mont Jones at 3-4 right end, Jarran Reed at 3-4 nose tackle, and Leonard Williams at 3-4 left end. Seattle has Jonathan Hankins as a backup at 3-4 nose tackle and Mike Morris out of Michigan as their backup 3-4 left end entering year two when giving the Seattle Seahawks a 3-4 right end for depth in the fourth round.
A backup 3-4 right end is needed in Seattle, but why wait? Seattle can draft Byron Murphy II or Jer'Zhan Newton here, they can buy out Dre'Mont Jones. I like Byron Murphy II more, and believe he will be the first defensive tackle drafted due to the medicals of Jer'Zhan Newton.
Last year, I mocked Jaxon Smith-Njigba to Seattle at 20 hinting to Seattle potentially buying out Tyler Lockett to save cap space. This year, I'm going to point out that buying out Dre'Mont Jones saves over $16.5-million in cap space in 2025 allowing you to ease Byron Murphy II into the lineup for a year before starting Byron Murphy II full-time in 2025. Buying out Tyler Lockett in 2025 and just keeping him for one more year in 2024 saves $26.8-million. By drafting Byron Murphy II here, Seattle can reload on the defensive line and would create $43.3 million in cap space from buying out Dre'Mont Jones and Tyler Lockett.
Seattle could create $25 million more in cap space if they chose to buyout starting quarterback Geno Smith increasing that cap space to $68.3-million for 2025 if the Seahawks manage to buyout Geno Smith, Tyler Lockett, and Dre'Mont Jones in 2025. Backup quarterback Sam Howell currently has two years left on his rookie deal heading into 2024 as the first player drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This could be a storyline to watch if Sam Howell takes the starting job from Geno Smith this year. Seattle's third string quarterback is Gannon quarterback Kory Curtis which is why I don't believe Seattle addresses quarterback in this years 2024 NFL Draft.
Here's a film cut of Texas DL Byron Murphy II VS Oklahoma. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
