Tony Mario's 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 6

Tony Mario Last Updated: April 27, 2021.

  1. Los Angeles Chargers: Divine Deablo, SS, Virginia Tech

Los Angeles needs a safety for depth behind Derwin James and Nasir Adderley on their depth chart. Los Angeles also only has three safeties on their team depth chart too. Divine Deablo gets drafted as a backup strong safety here.

  2. New York Jets: K.J. Britt, MLB, Auburn

New York gets a 4-3 middle linebacker for depth behind C.J. Mosley. K.J. Britt is a great value pick in the sixth round.

  3. Atlanta Falcons: Jamie Newman, QB, Wake Forest

The 6-4 230 lb Jamie Newman transferred from Wake Forest to Georgia. Atlanta drafts Jamie Newman as a backup to Matt Ryan.

Jamie Newman never played a down at Georgia opting out due to Covid-19. You can find out why in our interview of Jamie Newman from the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl. You can click the link below to listen to that recorded press conference of Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman.

  4. New England Patriots: Sam Cooper, LG, Merrimack

New England gets a left guard for depth behind starting left guard Michael Onwenu now that Joe Thuney is gone. Sam Cooper from Merrimack is one of the better gems in the 2021 NFL Draft.

  5. Philadelphia Eagles: Jaylon Moore, LT, Western Michigan

Philadelphia drafts a left tackle for depth. Doing this gives Philadelphia insurance if Andre Dillard cannot recover from the injury he suffered a year ago at left tackle.

  6. Cincinnati Bengals: Adrian Ealy, RT, Oklahoma

Adrian Ealy is a very good backup right tackle. He gives Cincinnati depth behind Riley Reiff at right tackle. Considering Riley Reiff played left tackle his entire career, drafting for depth at right tackle isn't a bad idea in the sixth round.

  7. Carolina Panthers: Khyiris Tonga, DT, BYU

Carolina finally gets a defensive tackle to replace Kawaan Short in the sixth round. Khyiris Tonga isn't getting talked about enough and he'd be a good fit for the Panthers in the sixth round.

  8. Dallas Cowboys: Naquan Jones, DT, Michigan State

Naquan Jones gives Dallas a defensive tackle for depth. Dallas has Neville Gallimore and Trysten Hill so for that reason defensive tackle isn't as big of a need as other positions on defense.

  9. Carolina Panthers: Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas

Carolina drafts a quarterback that they can try to groom behind Sam Darnold. Sam Ehlinger has a fifth round grade on most boards which is why this is a great value pick for the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round.

  10. San Francisco 49ers: Kylin Hill, RB, Mississippi State

Kylin Hill gives San Francisco a future starting running back that checks off a lot of boxes on film. This is a great value pick for San Francisco here.

  11. Houston Texans: Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, Oklahoma

Houston gets a running back for depth. Rhamondre Stevenson would make a good backup running back for the Houston Texans.

  12. New York Giants: Kolby Harvey-Peel, SS, Oklahoma State

New York gets a safety for depth here. Kolby Harvey-Peel is my top safety on the board.

  13. New England Patriots: Tay Gowan, CB, Central Florida

Tay Gowan would be a good nickel cornerback to develop behind J.C. Jackson. He's a nice value pick in the sixth round after having a strong Pro Day at Central Florida's 2021 Pro Day.

  14. Los Angeles Chargers: Kendrick Green, RG, Illinois

Kendrick Green would be a good replacement to Trai Turner. The Los Angeles Chargers need to grab a right guard to fill the void they created when the Chargers chose to release Turner.

  15. Minnesota Vikings: >: Sadarius Hucherson, LG, South Carolina

Minnesota grabs a left guard here. Sadarius Hucherson is the best left guard on the board.

  16. Las Vegas Raiders: Josh Palmer, WR, Tennessee

One receiver left in the draft that could be an upgrade over all the Free Agents that the Las Vegas Raiders targeted was Josh Palmer. Palmer went 14/14 on targets against cornerbacks like Patrick Surtain II, Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, Jaycee Horn, and Kelvin Joseph. Those were the top draft eligible cornerbacks in the SEC, so that kind of production simply cannot be ignored at this point in the 2021 NFL Draft.

  17. New York Giants: Quintin Morris, TE, Bowling Green

New York has Evan Enram and Kyle Rudolph. I figure New York will add a third tight end for depth at some point late in this years draft.

  18. Cincinnati Bengals: Zach Davidson, TE, Central Missouri

Zach Davidson is the best small school tight ends in this draft that hardly anyone is talking about. Cincinnati gets him for depth behind Drew Sample here.

  19. Houston Texans: Rachad Wildgoose, CB, Wisconsin

Houston grabs a cornerback here. Rachad Wildgoose may have the coolest last name of any prospect in this years draft.

  20. Chicago Bears: Elerson Smith, 3-4 LOLB, Northern Iowa

Chicago grabs a 3-4 outside linebacker for depth here. Elerson Smith is a natural 4-3 defensive end. He moves to 3-4 outside linebacker as a rotational edge rusher behind Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn on their depth chart.

  21. Tennessee Titans: Erroll Thompson, 3-4 MLB, Mississippi State

Tennessee drafts a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth behind Rashaad Evans and Jaylon Brown here. Erroll Thompson is a good 3-4 middle linebacker to draft for depth here.

  22. Indianapolis Colts: Adetokunbo Ogundeji, RE, Notre Dame

Notre Dame pass rusher Adetokunbo Ogundeji looked good on tape versus Boston College and they have one of the best offensive lines in College Football. Indianapolis hopes they can turn this Notre Dame pass rusher into a viable replacement for Justin Houston.

  23. Kansas City Chiefs: Bobby Brown III, DT, Texas A&M

Kansas City has Chris Jones, Jarran Reed, Derrick Nnadi, and Khalen Saunders at 4-3 defensive tackle. Bobby Brown III is a good value pick at this point as he can come in and compete for roster spot.

  24. Chicago Bears: Jacoby Stevens, SS, LSU

Jacoby Stevens can play linebacker, strong safety, or free safety with his versatility. He comes in as a replacement for Tashaun Gipson in the sixth round.

  25. Los Angeles Rams: Paddy Fisher, 3-4 MLB, Northwestern

Paddy Fisher is a nice value pick here. The Los Angeles Rams could someone at 3-4 middle linebacker to push for a roster spot. At the very worst, Paddy Fisher is a serviceable depth player.

  26. Baltimore Ravens: Feleipe Franks, QB, Arkansas

Baltimore found their backup to Lamar Jackson in Trace McSorely who the Baltimore Ravens got on day 3 back in the 2019 NFL Draft. They still draft a third string quarterback here since Robert Griffin III is no longer on the Baltimore Ravens roster.

  27. Cleveland Browns: Brady White, QB, Memphis

Brady White goes to Cleveland as a third string quarterback. Cleveland has Baker Mayfield as their starter and Case Keenum as their backup. Brady White is an ideal third string quarterback which is something Cleveland can gamble on late in this years draft.

  28. Houston Texans: Max Richardson, 3-4 MLB, Boston College

Max Richardson becomes the replacement to Bernardrick McKinney in Houston. Max Richardson had 108 total tackles in 2019 so he could be a nice value pick for Houston in the sixth round. He's also got experience on special teams which may come in handy.

  29. Buffalo Bills: Kyree Campbell, DT, Florida

Kyree Campbell played 4-3 defensive tackle with Tedarrell Slaton at Florida. He's also versatile enough to play 3-4 defensive end on either side. Buffalo drafts Kyree Campbell since they need a defensive tackle for depth in head coach Sean McDermott's 4-3 defense this late in the sixth round.

  30. Green Bay Packers: Damar Hamlin, FS, Pittsburgh

Green Bay grabs a safety for depth behind Darnell Savage and Adrian Amos. Damar Hamlin is versatile enough to play both safety roles.

  31. Tennessee Titans: Marcus Murphy, SS, Mississippi State

Tennessee lost Kenny Vacarro at strong safety. The Tennessee Titans are probably going to draft a safety at some point to replace him so they have a good starter next to Kevin Byard. Right now Dane Cruikshank and Amani Hooker who both have higher ceilings than Marcus Murphy have the best shot of starting next to Byard, but one more safety for competition will be the motivation that Cruikshank and Hooker need.

  32. Pittsburgh Steelers: Zac Thomas, QB, Appalachian State

Zac Thomas went 32-6 in his career as a starting quarterback at Appalachian State. The only quarterback with a better record in this draft is Trevor Lawrence who went 34-2 in three years at Clemson.

Pittsburgh has Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph, and Dwayne Haskins in their quarterback room. Every one of those three quarterbacks is in a contract year with Haskins being the only one of those three with a Restricted Free Agent option.

Worst case scenario, Zac Thomas goes on to become a practice squad player. Best case scenario, he does enough to earn a shot as the teams third string quarterback.

  33. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Marquez Stevenson, WR, Houston

Tampa Bay got this compensation pick at when wide receiver Breshad Perriman signed with the New York Jets. Marquez Stevenson will compete with Justin Watson, Scotty Miller, and Tyler Johnson for a slot receiver job next to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

  34. New Orleans Saints: Garrett Wallow, ROLB, TCU

New Orleans got this compensation pick at when outside linebacker A.J. Klein signed with the Buffalo Bills. New Orleans grabs a linebacker who can be Klein's replacement here. Garrett Wallow can play 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, strong safety, or free safety with his versatility making him a great fit for New Orleans who has not drafted a linebacker yet. Garrett Wallow compliments Demario Davis and Zach Baun in New Orleans giving New Orleans a third starter at linebacker late in this draft.

  35. Atlanta Falcons: Whop Philyor, WR, Indiana

Atlanta got this compensation pick at when Wes Schweitzer signed with the Washington Redskins now known as the Washington Football Team. Atlanta gets a wide receiver that can push Russell Gage for the wide receiver job.

  36. Green Bay Packers: Trae Berry, TE, Jacksonville State

Green Bay got this compensation pick at because 3-4 middle linebacker Kyler Fackrell signed with the New York Giants. Robert Tonyan Jr. enters a contract year and Jace Sternberger still has two years left on his rookie deal. Josiah Deguara last years 2020 third round pick moved to fullback. Green Bay drafts a tight end here. Trae Berry is nice value for Green Bay in the sixth round as he provides a viable third string tight end to start out with.

  37. Chicago Bears: David Moore, LG, Grambling State

Chicago got this compensation pick at because defensive tackle Nicholas Williams signed with the Detroit Lions. Chicago has James Daniels at left guard, Cody Whitehair at center, and Germain Ifedi at right guard. They have no depth on their interior offensive line. Luckily for Chicago, David Moore is versatile enough to play left guard, center, or right guard with his versatility despite mainly playing left guard at Grambling State.

Here is a film cut of Grambling State left guard David Moore VS Southern. Go ahead and check it out.

  38. Carolina Panthers: Marlon Williams, WR, Central Florida

Carolina got this compensation pick at because defensive end Bruce Irvin signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Carolina grabs a receiver for depth. You have D.J. Moore and Roby Anderson, but you lost Curtis Samuel to the Washington Football Team. You have to try to get a slot receiver at some point in this draft if you are the Carolina Panthers.

  39. Arizona Cardinals: John Bates, TE, Boise State

Minnesota got this compensation pick at because cornerback Mackensie Alexander signed with the Cincinnati Bengals The Arizona Cardinals got this pick in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings when they sent backup center Mason Cole to the Minnesota Vikings.

Arizona gets a tight end for depth behind Maxx Williams. John Bates out of Boise State is a nice value pick in the sixth round.

  40. Philadelphia Eagles: T.J. Carter, CB, Memphis

Philadelphia got this compensation pick at because cornerback Ronald Darby signed with the Washington Redskins now known as the Washington Football Team. Philadelphia drafts a cornerback for depth here.

  41. Philadelphia Eagles: Patrick Johnson, RE, Tulane

Philadelphia got this compensation pick at because running back Jordan Howard signed with the Miami Dolphins. Philadelphia grabs a defensive end for depth behind Derek Barnett and Brandon Graham.

  42. New York Jets: Damonte Coxie, WR, Memphis

Carolina got this compensation pick at because their backup right tackle Daryl Williams signed with the Buffalo Bills. Williams did well enough to earn a right tackle job in Buffalo for the short-term, but Carolina traded this pick to the New York Jets when they traded for New York Jets starting quarterback Sam Darnold.

New York uses this pick they got from the Panthers in exchange for Sam Darnold on a wide receiver for depth. Denzel Mims and Corey Davis both missed a few games with injuries. I gave New York a slot receiver earlier n Tylan Wallace. Damonte Coxie is strictly a receiver that New York is adding for depth. He could be effective on special teams too if the Jets choose to use him as a return specialist.

  43. Dallas Cowboys: T.J. Vasher, WR, Texas Tech

Dallas got this compensation pick when tight end Jason Witten signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. Dallas uses this pick to get depth at wide receiver by adding Texas Tech wide receiver T.J. Vasher.

  44. Chicago Bears: Mustafa Johnson, 3-4 LE, Colorado

Chicago got this compensation pick at because quarterback Chase Daniel signed with the Detroit Lions. Chicago gets someone who can push for the 3-4 left end job with this pick.
