Tony Mario's 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 2

Tony Mario Last Updated: April 27, 2021.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevon Moehrig, SS, TCU

Jacksonville needs multiple safeties. Trevon Moehrig is the top safety in this draft class so getting him to boost this defense after taking Christian Barmore at 25 as a defensive tackle is a fantastic way for Jacksonville to start the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

  2. New York Jets: Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina

I see why Chris compared Javonte Williams to Nick Chubb in his running back rankings in the link above. A running back with a similar skill set to Nick Chubb takes pressure off of Zach Wilson. Wilson will have Mekhi Becton and George Fant as bookends with Alex Leatherwood as your swing tackle this year unless he wins the right tackle job as a rookie along with Denzel Mims and Corey Davis at wide receiver. These pieces give the New York Jets a strong foundation on the offensive side of the ball moving forward.

  3. Atlanta Falcons: Wyatt Davis, LG, Ohio State

Wyatt Davis played right guard at Ohio State. One thing I'll add is that he has the athleticism to play left guard despite mainly starting as a right guard at Ohio State. This gives Atlanta an offensive line with Jake Matthews at left tackle, Wyatt Davis at left guard, Matt Hennessy at center, Chris Lindstrom at right guard, and Kaleb McGary at right tackle.

  4. Miami Dolphins: Jamin Davis, 3-4 MLB, Kentucky

The 24-year-old Jerome Baker Miami's 2018 third round pick out of Ohio State enters his contract year in 2021. Also the 29-year-old Bernardrick McKinney that Miami traded has no dead cap penalty on his contract. McKinney only had 37 total tackles in 2020 after having 101 total tackles in 2019. Taking Jamin Davis allows Miami to reload at one of their 3-4 middle linebacker spots following the 2021 season in 2022.

I'm pretty confident that Brian Flores can develop Jamin Davis who had 50 solo tackles, 52 assisted tackles, and 102 total tackles into a viable starter since Davis is excellent in coverage while he ran a 4.39 and had a 42-inch vertical at Kentucky's Pro Day. Zaven Collins could also be an option, but with reports of him being not well liked by his teammates, Miami goes for character over talent by selecting Jamin Davis hoping to remain stable at 3-4 middle linebacker after 2021.

  5. Philadelphia Eagles: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida

Philadelphia couldn't land a receiver in the first round. They pounce on the chance to add Florida Gators receiver Kadarius Toney in the second round who compliments Jalen Reagor quite well.

  6. Cincinnati Bengals: Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU

There are some reports about Cincinnati gettng Ja'Maar Chase at 5. Taking Penei Sewell at 5 and grabbing Terrace Marshall Jr. in the second round to pair with Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins as a slot receiver is a much more effective option.

  7. Carolina Panthers: Zaven Collins, LOLB, Tulsa

Carolina has Shaq Thompson at 4-3 right outside linebacker, Denzel Perryman at 4-3 middle linebacker, and Haason Reddick at 4-3 left outside linebacker. Thompson is the only one of these players locked up long-term as Carolina can cut Perryman in 2022 to save cap space before his contract is up in 2023 while Reddick is a Free Agent in 2022. The Carolina Panthers can also draft someone like Zaven Collins and use him as both a rotational defensive end for depth as well as a rotational linebacker for depth both inside and outside during his rookie season before starting him in year two.

Zaven Collins is versatile enough to play both 4-3 defensive end as well as linebacker in both the 4-3 and 3-4 schemes. He's great in coverage too. You can certainly argue he's a first round talent. Not being well liked by his teammates could drop him to the second round, but Carolina would grab him at this point and he's one of the second round picks in my mock that could end up becoming a Pro Bowl talent.

  8. Denver Broncos: Jackson Carman, RT, Clemson

Denver grabs a swing tackle for depth behind Garrett Bolles and Ju'Wuan James who has the talent and skill set to start at right tackle as a rookie if James gets injured again here at 40. Ju'Wuan James has missed the last two seasons with injuries while Denver has had serious problems finding competent play at right tackle. Carman played left tackle at Clemson, but he'll move over to the right side if James gets injured. If James stays healthy, then Carman can start his NFL career as a swing tackle in Denver.

  9. Detroit Lions: Joe Tryon, RE, Washington

Detroit drafts Joe Tyron here. Joe Tyron is a day 2 prospect at 4-3 right end who has a chance to sneak into the first round. He's generating a lot of first round buzz as of late.

Joe Tyron gave Penei Sewell some problems. He's exactly the competitor Detroit needs to bring in.

  10. New York Giants: Jayson Oweh, 3-4 ROLB, Penn State

New York needs an edge rusher in the worst way possible. Oweh played 4-3 right end on Penn State, but has the body of a 3-4 outside linebacker. His tape against Ohio State and Maryland was pretty awful, but he looked decent against Michigan winning some reps against right tackle Jalen Mayfield. He could be a good value pick for the New York Giants if he improves his rip and swim moves as a pass rusher.

  11. San Francisco 49ers: Eric Stokes, CB, Georgia

San Francisco is a team that needs multiple cornerbacks. Eric Stokes was Georgia's best cornerback in 2020. Stokes is a superb value pick as well as the ideal replacement for Richard Sherman in San Francisco.

  12. Dallas Cowboys: Andre Cisco, FS, Syracuse

Dallas needs a free safety and Andre Cisco turned 21-years-old last month making him the youngest safety that is draft eligble making him the best long-term safety to draft based on age if you can fix the weaknesses in his game. Andre Cisco can play strong safety, free safety, 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, or 4-3 left outside linebacker with his versatility.

Andre Cisco can play man coverage, zone coverage, and press coverage. He can stop the run blitz. Cisco is your swiss army knife on defense in this draft.

Here is a film cut of Syracuse safety Andre Cisco VS Pittsburgh. Andre Cisco made some nice plays, but showed a lot of inconsistent play against the Pitt Panthers after intercepting Sam Howell of North Carolina in the season opener for Syracuse.

  13. Jacksonville Jaguars: Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State

Jacksonville hired Penn State's tight ends coach to be their tight ends coach. This pretty much means Pat Freiermuth will be a Jacksonville Jaguar. I can't see him getting past 45.

  14. New England Patriots: Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse

Ifeatu Melifonwu can play cornerback or safety with his versatility. He's got the man and press coverage to be an NFL cornerback. He just needs to refine his zone coverage skills so that they are on par with his man and press. Ifeatu Melifonwu has good, but not great zone coverage ability.

  15. Los Angeles Chargers: Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia

Los Angeles will need multiple cornerbacks. Tyson Campbell is the best cornerback on the board at this point in the second round.

  16. Las Vegas Raiders: Liam Eichenberg, RT, Notre Dame

Las Vegas gets a right tackle to compliment Kolton Miller after trading Trent Brown to the New England Patriots. Liam Eichenberg is a great scheme fit for the Raiders. He's not as talented as Mike McGlinchey, but could be a great starter at right tackle giving the Las Vegas Raiders a week 1 starter at right tackle.

  17. Arizona Cardinals: Deonte Brown, RG, Alabama

Right guard is the one area Arizona needs to upgrade on the offensive line. Deonte Brown never gave up a sack in his four years at Alabama.

  18. Miami Dolphins: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama

The top two centers in the 2021 NFL Draft are both upgrades over Matt Skura. Landon Dickerson gives the Miami Dolphins a third player from Alabama with their first four picks.

  19. Washington Football Team: James Hudson, LT, Cincinnati

James Hudson gave Azeez Ojulari some fits before he got ejected for targeting in Cincinnati's bowl game against Georgia. Hudson would obviously start out learning under Cornellius Lucas at left tackle. Maybe he can take over for Lucas in 2022 when Cornellius Lucas is a Free Agent giving Washington a future blindside for Mac Jones.

  20. Chicago Bears: Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss

Chicago grabs a receiver here. Elijah Moore would provide a nice deep threat for Andy Dalton.

  21. Tennessee Titans: Azeez Ojulari, 3-4 ROLB, Georgia

Tennessee grabs the best edge rusher on the board in Georgia pass rusher Azeez Ojulari. I believe Ojulari can play 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 defensive end on either side with his versatility. He seems like a better fit for a 3-4 scheme. Tennessee goes for value over need and adds Azeez Ojulari as a 3-4 outside linebacker for depth behind Bud Dupree and Harold Landry.

  22. Indianapolis Colts: Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky

The Indianapolis Colts get a number one cornerback that can make things more challenging for quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Kelvin Joseph gave DeVonta Smith the most problems in coverage when Alabama played Kentucky as Joseph limited Smith to 3 receptions for 21 yards with Smith only averaging 7 yards per reception when facing Joseph.

  23. Pittsburgh Steelers: Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State

Pittsburgh has Joe Haden, Justin Layne taking over for Steven Nelson, and Cameron Sutton. Pittsburgh lacks any sort of cornerback depth behind those three. Adding a cornerback who just dominates in man, zone, and press coverage despite being 5-10 in Asante Samuel Jr. is a smart move because Pittsburgh will need bodies at cornerback if one of these three starters gets injured at any point in 2021 after losing Mike Hilton to division rival Cincinnati.

  24. Seattle Seahawks: Dillon Radunz, LT, North Dakota State

Russell Wilson continues to complain about his offensive line. Dillon Radunz has the ceiling to develop into a Pro Bowl left tackle. In this situation, he comes into Seattle as a successor to Duane Brown. Having the versatility to play left tackle, right tackle, along with guard will help Radunz.

Here is a film cut of North Dakota State left tackle Dillon Radunz VS Central Arkansas. Dillon Radunz was fantastic on tape.

  25. Los Angeles Rams: Trey Smith, RG, Tennessee

Trey Smith is versatile enough to play offensive tackle or guard on either side of the offensive line. He projects as a guard in the NFL. Even though it's refreshing that Austin Corbett turned things around after struggling with the Cleveland Browns, Trey Smith is an upgrade over Corbett, and there's no question the Los Angeles Rams would continue to bolster their offensive line with the addition of Smith this late in the second round.

  26. Kansas City Chiefs: Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma

Creed Humphrey is the best center in the 2021 NFL Draft. Landon Dickerson may be a better fit for Miami from a team chemistry standpoint. Creed Humphrey on the same offensive line with left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., left guard Joe Thuney, right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff, and right tackle Lucas Niang is just scary considering Niang perfected his kick slide at left tackle while training despite being a right tackle at TCU.

  27. Cleveland Browns: Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington

Cleveland cut Sheldon Richardson to save cap space. Levi Onwuzurike may be slightly undersized. He had a first round grade on some boards before his injury at the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl. He's also my second best defensive tackle in this draft behind Christian Barmore which is why he's an incredible value pick if he makes it to 59 in the second round where the Cleveland Browns pick.

  28. New Orleans Saints: Elijah Molden, CB, Washington

New Orleans gets a cornerback that can compliment Marshon Lattimore. Elijah Molden is the best cornerback on the board at this point in the late second round.

  29. Buffalo Bills: Aaron Robinson, CB, Central Florida

Aaron Robinson is great in man and press coverage. Buffalo needs a replacement to Josh Norman. Aaron Robinson could thrive next to a veteran like Tre'Davious White.

  30. Green Bay Packers: Carlos Basham Jr., 3-4 RE, Wake Forest

Green Bay drafts the Boogieman here. That's Carlos Basham Jr. also known as Boogie Basham. The Green Bay Packers need multiple starters at 5-technique and Carlos Basham Jr. could be a good 3-4 right end in Green Bay.

Here is a film cut of Wake Forest defensive end Carlos Basham Jr. VS Clemson. Carlos Basham Jr. did well in this game.

Finally, Draft Utopia's founder Chris Ransom posted an interview of Carlos Basham Jr. This is the only interview from the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl to be featured on both Anchor and Talkshoe.

  31. Kansas City Chiefs: Jordan Smith, LE, UAB

Kansas City gets a 4-3 left end next to Frank Clark. Jordan Smith is one of the most explosive pass rushers in this draft. He's versatile enough to play 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right outside linebacker, or 3-4 left outside linebacker with his versatility.

  32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Quinn Meinerz, LG, Wisconsin-Whitewater

Tampa Bay has Ali Marpet at left guard, Ryan Jensen at center, and Alex Cappa at right guard. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers lack depth on the interior offensive line. You could also argue that Quinn Meinerz may be an upgrade over Jensen at center which is the biggest reason I mocked Quinn Meinerz to Tampa Bay to end the second round. Grabbing the Wisconsin-Whitewater interior offensive lineman would create lots of rapport since he fits right in with small school offensive linemen from Hobart and Walla Walla.
