Tony Mario's 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 5

Tony Mario Last Updated: April 27, 2021.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jhamon Ausbon, WR, Texas A&M

The 6-2 209 lb Jhamon Ausbon led Texas A&M with 66 receptions, 872 receiving yards, and had 5 receiving touchdowns in 2019. He opted out of 2020 due to Covid-19. Jacksonville drafts Ausbon for depth at wide receiver in the fifth round. This gives Jacksonville two big body targets for depth with Collin Johnson and Jhamon Ausbon.

  2. New York Jets: Dayo Odeyingbo, RE, Vanderbilt

New York drafts a 4-3 defensive end for depth behind Carl Lawson and Vinny Curry. Dayo Odeyingbo is a great value pick for the New York Jets early in the fifth round.

  3. Houston Texans: Joshua Bledsoe, SS, Missouri

Houston needs a strong safety next to free safety Justin Reid. They get Missouri strong safety Joshua Bledsoe here in the fifth round.

  4. Atlanta Falcons: Bryce Thompson, CB, Tennessee

Bryce Thomspon can push for the nickel cornerback job in Atlanta. At the very worst, he's a serviceable cornerback for depth.

  5. Cincinnati Bengals: Marco Wilson, CB, Florida

Cincinnati grabs a cornerback for depth. Marco Wilson would make a great cornerback for depth at this point in the fifth round.

  6. Philadelphia Eagles: Sage Surratt, WR, Wake Forest

Philadelphia drafted multiple receivers in the 2021 NFL Draft. Philadelphia does the same by drafting multiple receivers in the 2021 NFL Draft.

  7. Carolina Panthers: James Wiggins, SS, Cincinnati

Carolina gets a strong safety to pair with free safety Jeremy Chinn. James Wiggins is a fantastic value pick at this point in the fifth round.

  8. Denver Broncos: Tedarrell Slaton, NT, Florida

Denver has yet to get a nose tackle and it's an area they could improve in. Tedarrell Slaton the starting nose tackle on Florida is a good value pick for the Denver Broncos in the fifth round.

  9. Detroit Lions: Ambry Thomas, CB, Michigan

Detroit's nickel cornerback is Corn Elder. The cornerback duo of Jeffrey Okudah and Amani Oruwariye is a good cornerback duo. However someone as talented as Ambry Thomas may be an upgrade over Corn Elder at nickel cornerback.

  10. New York Jets: Noah Gray, TE, Duke

Noah Gray gives the New York Jets a tight end with a higher ceiling than both Tyler Kroft and Christopher Herndon IV.

  11. San Francisco 49ers: Darrick Forrest, FS, Cincinnati

San Francisco adds a safety for depth in the fifth round. Darrick Forest played with James Wiggins at Cincinati. Like Wiggins, he's versatile enough to play safety on either side.

  12. Miami Dolphins: Alaric Jackson, LT, Iowa

Miami drafts a left tackle for depth behind Austin Jackson here. Alaric Jackson is a nice backup left tackle for Miami in the fifth round.

  13. Minnesota Vikings: Tariq Thompson, FS, San Diego State

Minnesota gets a safety for depth behind Harrison Smith and Xavier Woods. Tariq Thompson is a nice value pick in the fifth round.

  14. Houston Texans: Shi Smith, WR, South Carolina

Houston grabs a slot receiver as a replacement to Will Fuller. Shi Smith is a fantastic value pick for Houston in the fifth round.

  15. Los Angeles Chargers: Victor Dimukeje, LE, Duke

With Melvin Ingram gone, a 4-3 defensive end next to Joey Bosa is needed. Victor Dimukeje is a good value pick for the Los Angeles Chargers in the fifth round.

  16. Arizona Cardinals: Frank Darby, WR, Arizona State

Arizona State produced two first round receivers and Darby is good enough to get drafted. He gives Arizona another wide receiver to push Andy Isabella and Hakeem Butler for roster spots with Larry Fitzgerald's decision on whether to come back or retire still pending.

Here is our interview of Frank Darby from the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl. You can click the link below to listen to that recorded press conference of Arizona State wide receiver Frank Darby.

  17. Buffalo Bills: Robert Hainsey, RG, Notre Dame

Buffalo grabs an interior offensive lineman for depth. Robert Hainsey could be a nice backup on an interior offensive line. He's not starter material though.

  18. Las Vegas Raiders: Jimmy Morrissey, C, Pittsburgh

Las Vegas gets a backup center to Nick Martin. Rodney Hudson is no longer on the Raiders so they get a backup center in the fifth round.

  19. Washington Football Team: Pete Werner, ROLB, Ohio State

Washington gets a replacement to Thomas Davis here. Pete Werner is a three-down linebacker despite having average athleticism.

  20. Chicago Bears: Thomas Graham Jr., CB, Oregon

Chicago gets a replacement at cornerback to Kyle Fuller and Artie Burns here. That's what Thomas Graham Jr. is at this point too, but he gives Chicago some depth at cornerback.

Here is our interview of Thomas Graham Jr. from the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl. You can click the link below to listen to that recorded press conference of Oregon cornerback Thomas Graham Jr..

  21. Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Schwartz, WR, Auburn

Indianapolis grabs a wide receiver for depth. Anthony Schwartz would make a nice value pick in the fifth round.

  22. Tennessee Titans: Cornell Powell, WR, Clemson

The 6-0 205 lb Cornell Powell finally earned some playing time in 2020 after Justyn Ross got injured while Tee Higgins declared for the 2020 NFL Draft leaving an open wide receiver spot across from Amari Rodgers. He goes to Tennessee in the fifth round as a replacement to Corey Davis.

Here is our interview of Corell Powell. This interview from the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl is only on Anchor, but you can listen to the interview while reading our SWOT report of Clemson wide receiver Cornell Powell. In this interview Cornell describes the tremendous work ethic of Trevor Lawrence and the uber talented wide receiver room at Clemson.

  23. Las Vegas Raiders: De'Angelo Malone, ROLB, Western Kentucky

De'Angelo Malone would provide some depth at 4-3 outside linebacker. Las Vegas gets this pass rushing outside linebacker for depth here in the fifth round.

  24. Minnesota Vikings: Dez Fitzpatrick, WR, Louisville

Minnesota grabs a slot receiver here to compliment Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson. Dez Fitzpatrick is a great value pick for the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round.

  25. Cleveland Browns: Tyrie Gillespie, FS, Missouri

Missouri free safety Tyrie Gillespie is a great value pick in the fifth round. Cleveland can get him as a backup free safety to Grant Delpit since John Johnson III, Ronnie Harrison, and Sheldrick Redwine are all listed as strong safeties on the Cleveland Browns depth chart.

  26. Jacksonville Jaguars: Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State

Chuba Hubbard is a good value pick for depth behind James Robinson. Hubbard will be able to contribute as a rotational change of pace running back in Jacksonville. He can also step in and start if James Robinson gets injured.

  27. Baltimore Ravens: Tuf Borland, 3-4 MLB, Ohio State

Baltimore gets a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth behind Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison. Tuf Borland joins his fomer Ohio State linebacker teammate Malik Harrison in Baltimore.

Tuf Borland played all three 4-3 linebacker spots at Ohio State just like Baron Browning and Pete Werner. Tuf Borland is a great value pick in the fifth round. He should be able to contribute as a depth player in a 3-4 defense.

Here is our interview of Tuf Borland from the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl. You can click the link below to listen to that recorded press conference of Ohio State linebacker Tuf Borland.

  28. San Francisco 49ers: Isaiah McDuffie, LOLB, Boston College

San Francisco gets a 4-3 left outside linebacker to compliment Dre Greenlaw at 4-3 right outside linebacker and Fred Warner at 4-3 middle linebacker. Isaiah McDuffie is a good value pick for San Francisco in the fifth round.

  29. Green Bay Packers: Derrick Barnes, 3-4 MLB, Purdue

Green Bay needs to replace Blake Martinez. Derrick Barnes could be a nice value pick at 3-4 middle linebacker this late in the fifth round.

  30. Buffalo Bills: Demetric Felton, RB, UCLA

Buffalo grabs a running back for depth. Demetric Felton is a gadget player like Antonio Gibson who can play both running back and wide receiver. He seems like an ideal replacement to Isaiah McKenzie this late in the fifth round.

  31. Kansas City Chiefs: Janarius Robinson, RE, Florida State

Janarius Robinson goes to Kansas City as a backup 4-3 right end to Frank Clark. This would be a good value pick for Kansas City in the late fifth round.

  32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Robert Rochell, CB, Central Arkansas

Tampa Bay finally gets a cornerback upgrade. Robert Rochell could beat out every cornerback on this roster for minutes except Carlton Davis.

Here is a film cut of Central Arkansas cornerback Robert Rochell. For more film cuts go to the Draft Utopia Youtube Channel to subscribe for more notifications and updates.

  33. New England Patriots: Tony Fields II, ROLB, West Virginia

New England was awarded a thirty third compensation pick due to an error. New England got this pick thanks to Jamie Collins re-uniting with Matt Patricia who is now back in New England.

Tony Fields II can line up anywhere as a 4-3 linebacker whether it's on the outside or inside. He's a great linebacker that New England can add for depth in the fifth round.

  34. Green Bay Packers: Tamorrion Terry, WR, Florida State

Green Bay got this compensation pick because right tackle Bryan Bulaga signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. Tamorrion Terry gives Aaron Rodgers a deep threat to pair with DaVante Adams and Allen Lazard. I can already hear Joe Buck saying Aaron Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Tamorrion Terry.

  35. Dallas Cowboys: Matt Bushman, TE, BYU

Dallas got this compensation pick when wide receiver Randall Cobb signed with the Houston Texans. Dallas uses this pick to get a tight end for competiton. Then Dallas Cowboys select Matt Bushman out of BYU. Bushman could be a good tight end if he can recover from his injury and stay healthy. That's a big if with Matt Bushman though.

  36. San Francisco 49ers: Cam Sample, DT, Tulane

San Francisco got this compensation pick at when wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders signed with the New Orleans Saints. San Francisco grabs Cam Sample for depth here as he can line up at 4-3 right end, 4-3 defensive tackle, or 4-3 left end for depth. Cam Sample was also defensive MVP at the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl.

  37. Kansas City Chiefs: Jake Curhan, RT, California

Kansas City got this compensation pick at when 3-4 left outside linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah signed with the Miami Dolphins after being a 4-3 defensive end for depth with the Kansas City Chiefs on their Super Bowl 54 team. Kansas City goes with a right tackle for depth here. Mitchell Schwartz the teams previous right tackle played College at California, so Kansas City gets another California player to push Lucas Niang and Mike Remmers for the right tackle job.

  38. Atlanta Falcons: Jerome Johnson, DT, Indiana

Atlanta got this compensation pick at when 3-4 right outside linebacker Vic Beasley signed with the Tennessee Titans. Atlanta grabs a 4-3 defensive tackle who may be able to play next to Grady Jarrett here.

  39. Atlanta Falcons: Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State

Atlanta got this compensation pick at 183 when 3-4 middle linebacker De'Vondre Campbell signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Trey Sermon gives Atlanta a starting running back late in the 2021 NFL Draft.

  40. Baltimore Ravens: Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Iowa

Baltimore got this compensation pick at 184 when 4-3 defensive tackle Michael Pierce signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Ihmir Smith-Marsette could end up being a number two receiver in due time. That's his ceiling anyways assuming he starts out as a backup wide receiver.
