New York Red Bulls 2016 Season Preview

I was wrong about the New York Red Bulls last season. Bradley-Wright Phillips led the team with 17 goals last year. Mike Grella had 9 goals and 7 assists as a secondary striker after Phillips got promoted from secondary striker to main striker following the departure of Theiren Henry. Anatole Abang still had a solid 4 goals as a backup. Homegrown player Brandon Allen a goal scoring striker from Georgetown is also on this team. The New York Red Bulls should be loaded at forward once again.
The midfield features Sacha Kjestan who led the Red Bulls with 14 assists while scoring 8 goals. Lloyd Sam had an impressive 10 goals and 7 assists at midfielder. Team captain Dax McCarty had 8 assists in 2015 earning a new contract. McCarty showed the ability to be an attacking midfielder while defending like a defensive midfielder. Mael Corboz a midfielder that can get double digit assists from Maryland also joins the New York Red Bulls as a home grown player.
Damien Perrinelle is the only starter returning on defense. He got injured during the 2015 MLS Playoffs at center back which caused the Red Bulls to lose in the Eastern Conference Finals. Matt Miazaga left the team and signed with Chelsea. The New York Red Bulls left back and right back also left. New York drafted Justin Bilyeu and Zach Caroll in the first two rounds of the 2016 MLS Super Draft. New York needs both rookies to start right away if they want to win the 2016 MLS Cup.
Goalie Luis Robles went from having 111 saves in 2014 to having 86 saves and 9 shutouts in 2015. Robles had an excellent defense that got almost no respect from people around the league heading into the 2015 season. The New York Red Bulls are gonna get disrespected again after not finding guys in Free Agency to replace those starters, but I think Bilyeu and Carroll can come up and surprise a few people.
Prediction: The New York Red Bulls are loaded on offense at forward and midfielder. I'm not sure if the defense will be as good, but I thought that last year and New York proved me wrong. I think Bilyeu and Carroll are capable of coming up and if they do get playing time as rookies then the New York Red Bulls will win the Eastern Conference. The Red Bulls had the best regular season record in 2015, but lost in the Eastern Conference Finals for the second year in a row. This year it will be MLS Cup or bust for New York.
