2015 MLS Mock Draft: Final Mock 2 Rounds
Round 1 Picks 11-21
Posted By: Chris Ransom Last Updated: January, 15, 2015
Toronto F.C.: Boyd Okwuonu, D, North Carolina
- Boyd Okwuonu can play any defensive role at left back, center back, right back, or defensive midfield. His best role is at fullback. Toronto F.C. could use a left back or right back with Okwuonu.
Previous Pick: Charlie Lyon, G, Marquette
Sporting Kansas City: Robbie Kristo, F, Saint Louis
- Sporting Kansas City only allowed 41 goals, but they also only scored 48 goals. Fortunately for them they are stacked with forwards, and can land another striker here.
- Robbie Kristo has scored 10 goals or more in 2012 and 2013. He weighs 6-4 200 lbs, and was born in St. Louis which is only an hour or two way from Kansas City.
Vancouver Whitecaps: Aaron Simmons, D, UCLA
- Vancouver needs a center back. Aaron Simmons guided UCLA to the College Cup and really did a lot to boost his draft stock.
Previous Pick: Khiry Shelton, F, Oregon State
Columbus Crew S.C.: Conor Donovan, D, North Carolina State
- The Columbus Crew nab the final generation adidas player here. I have five teams taking the five Generation Adidas players for 2015 at picks 1, 2, 3, 6, and 14.
Previous Pick: Eric Bird, M, Virginia
F.C. Dallas: Tim Parker, D, St. John's
- F.C. Dallas needs a center back. Parker lacks the upside, but he brings consistency and can be an effective role player in year 1.
Real Salt Lake: Seth Casiple, M, California
- Seth Casiple is good two-way midfielder that can be a box-to-box guy on both offense and defense. Real Salt Lake wants the best player available and that player happens to be Casiple.
D.C. United: Dan Metzger, M, Maryland
- D.C. United can take the best player available here. That has to be center midfielder Dan Metzger who does an excellent job with ball control once kick off starts.
New York Red Bulls: Sagi-Lev Ari, F, Cal State Northridge
- Sagi-Lev Ari has 31 career goals at Cal State Northridge. Theiren Henry may retire after this season so the Red Bulls need to prepare for life without the former Arsenal forward.
- Sagi-Lev Ari is a good finisher who had 15 goals in 2012 and scored 16 in 2013. This guy knows how to get the job done and is one of the top seniors in the nation.
- Sagi-Lev Ari also has good speed and dribbling. The downside is that he will be 25 by the time the 2015 MLS Super Draft roles around.
Colorado Rapids: Sergio Campbell, D, Connecticut
- The 6-2 190 lb Sergio Campbell has good size for a defender. His awareness needs to improve. Colorado allowed a league worst 62 goals in 2014. Time for the Rapids to get defense here.
Sporting Kansas City: Matt Wendelken, D, Boston College
- Sporting Kansas City owns this pick from the New England Revolution. They use this pick on a Revolution hometown prospect in Matt Wendelken of Boston College.
- Wendelken weighs 6-2 and 180 lbs. He can play center back, left back, right back, full back, or defensive midfielder. Has ability to play holding midfielder on kick off when the game begins using ball control as well. Excellent kicking power when shooting the ball as Wendelken has a powerful leg. His accuracy needs improvement when kicking the ball despite his tremendous soccer IQ which is why Wendelken slips to 18.
Los Angeles Galaxy: Eric Bird, M, Virginia
- Eric Bird the 5-11 185 lb midfielder on the Virginia Cavaliers brings a lot of energy and a positive attitude to a ball club. The team captain of the Cavaliers did not post the best stats in his career, but he guided Virginia to a championship by winning the 2014 College Cup against a heavily favored UCLA squad. Regardless of his production, Bird is considered the best available player here.
