Jason Bantle's 2015 NFL Mock Draft
Round 2
Posted By Jason Bantle Last Updated: April 30, 2015.
Tennessee Titans: Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri
- In most cases the Titans would take an offensive player to compliment Marcus Mariota. Shane Ray is a first round talent. Adding Ray as a pass rusher for depth behind Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan is an awesome move. Ray has the versatility to play on either side plus you can rotate him in the lineup as a substitute for Derrick Morgan. If Orakpo gets injured again, you just make Ray your outside linebacker.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State
- Another Florida State player. Jameis Winston's favorite wide receiver at Florida State goes to Tampa as a slot receiver that can play on the inside and create separation. Imagine what Winston could do if you added Greene to play with big guys like Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans.
Oakland Raiders: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
- Another Trojan goes to the Raiders. After taking Leonard Williams as a defensive end with the fourth pick, Oakland goes with Nelson Agholor in the second round.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State
``
- The Jaguars addressed the offensive line when they brought in Stephen Wisniewski from the Oakland Raiders to be the teams new center. Adding right tackle Jeremy Parnell, the Dallas Cowboys backup right tackle was also vital. Now Jacksonville gets a running back that will run through the lanes with these new additions on the offensive line after adding guards Zane Beadles and Branden Lindor back in 2014.
New York Jets: Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
- None of the quarterbacks after Winston or Mariota are worth taking there. Sammie Coates would be a good receiver to groom behind a 31-year-old Brandon Marshall. Coates could also play in the slot with Decker across from Marshall. Then in 2016 you could move Coates to the outside if he dominates and if Eric Decker continues to regress at wide receiver.
Washington Redskins: Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State
- Damarious Randall displays an excellent football IQ. Can play man, zone, or press coverage. Randall has all the intangibles that you look for in a complete free safety. Randall weighs 5-11 194 lbs and that concerns some teams leading some to believe he might play nickel corner. I love what I see from Randall
Chicago Bears: Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska
- Jared Allen is not a 3-4 guy. Randy Gregory would be an awesome pass rusher to take a flyer on if he slips to the second round.
New York Giants: Cody Prewitt, S, Ole Miss
- Landon Collins is a pure strong safety. Damarious Randall is a pure free safety. The best safety that can play both strong safety and free safety with his versatility is Cody Prewitt out of Ole Miss.
St. Louis Rams: Benardrick McKinney, OLB, Mississippi State
- St. Louis has Alec Ogltree at right outside linebacker and James Laurinaitis at middle linebacker. McKinney can play right outside linebacker, middle linebacker, or left outside linebacker in the 4-3 with his versatility. St. Louis drafts Mississippi State's inside linebacker and moves him over to the strong side with the 41st pick.
Atlanta Falcons: Anthony Harris, S, Virginia
- Anthony Harris won't be the first safety drafted. When all is said and done, I think Harris will end up having the best career among this years safeties which is why I have Atlanta passing on Maxx Williams for Anthony Harris.
Cleveland Browns: Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah
- Cleveland likes two PAC 12 pass rushers in Nate Orchard and Shaq Thompson here. I think the Browns go with Orchard because he has a tendency to sack the quarterback. Orchard recorded 18.5 sacks last season.
New Orleans Saints: Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
- The Saints finally draft Maxx Williams as a replacement for Jimmy Graham. Williams will have no problem replacing Jimmy Graham in New Orleans.
Minnesota Vikings: Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
- Minnesota needs a #2 cornerback across from Xavier Rhodes. Kevin Johnson is a great value pick in the second round for the Vikings plus he fills a position of need at cornerback. You can even start Johnson out in the nickel having him learn under Terrance Newman here.
San Francisco 49ers: Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon
- Everyone on NFL.com has Arik Armstead going 15th to the 49ers. Yet everyone has the 3-4 defensive end listed as a defensive tackle in the 49ers 3-4 scheme. That's not the point, the point is that the 49ers get a second All American on defense from the PAC 12 to compliment Eric Kendricks out of UCLA.
Miami Dolphins: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
- Ronald Darby gives Miami a cover corner that they desperately need. Darby pairs up with Brent Grimes in South Beach.
San Diego Chargers: Duke Johnson, RB, Miami FL
- San Diego finally gets a running back here. Duke Johnson is the best player left.
Kansas City Chiefs: Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina
- There are 9 different receivers that impressed the Chiefs during individual workouts. If one team double dips at wide receiver by taking wide outs in the first two rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft it will be the Chiefs.
Buffalo Bills: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
- Mel Kiper Jr. and Mike Mayock both have Bryce Petty as their third best quarterback. The Buffalo Bills believe Petty is the best quarterback after Winston and Mariota making Baylor's quarterback the pick here.
Houston Texans: Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma
- Houston needs a nose tackle to groom for the future behind Vince Wilfork. Louis Nix looks like a lost cause and I really believe the former Notre Dame nose tackle gets released this August when Training Camp rolls around.
Philadelphia Eagles: Eric Rowe, FS, Utah
- The Eagles need a free safety. Eric Rowe is still available at this pick and can also be used as a nickel corner.
Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State
- Cincinnati needs a defensive tackle. Hometown Buckeye Michael Bennett makes sense here.
Detroit Lions: Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana
- The Lions have expressed interest in Melvin Gordon, Todd Gurley, and Tevin Coleman. The Lions get Coleman here after missing out on Gurley and Gordon in the first round.
Arizona Cardinals: Jeremy Langford, RB, Michigan State
- Arizona goes with Jeremy Langford here. The Cardinals need to make an upgrade at running back.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
- Pittsburgh needs multiple linebackers on both the inside and the outside. Stephone Anthony is the top ranked linebacker left. Anthony has the versatility to move to the outside in a 4-3 and lacks the ability to be a pass rushing outside linebacker in a 3-4. This isn't the guy the Steelers should take, but I think this is a guy they will take. Nobody said they should take Jason Worilds back in 2010 when James Harrison and Lamar Woodley were in their prime and they went with those two players anyway.
Carolina Panthers: Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington
- Shaq Thompson starts out as a left outside linebacker in Carolina. Down the road he will move to safety.
Baltimore Ravens: Devin Funchess, TE, Michigan
- Devin Funchess can play wide receiver or tight end. After taking Marcus Peters in the first round, Baltimore selects a playmaker here.
Denver Broncos: Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State
- The Denver Broncos loved what they saw from 2 Colorado State Rams. Brock Osweiler is in a contract year and he's not coming back after this season. Denver drafts another successor for Peyton Manning with Garrett Grayson.
Dallas Cowboys: Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina
- Mike Davis goes to Dallas. The Cowboys finally get a running back to replace DeMarco Murray. South Carolina Gamecocks running back Mike Davis had a good offensive line at South Carolina and will have an even better blocking unit in Dallas.
Indianapolis Colts: Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska
- Ameer Abdullah would be a good running back to bring in behind Frank Gore. I'm not sold on Daniel Herron as a starting running back, but the Colts were at least smart enough to get rid of Trent Richardson. You have Abdullah start out as a third stringer as a rookie and by 2017 he will start unless Gore gets injured.
Green Bay Packers: Jalen Collins, CB, LSU
- Green Bay needs a cornerback. Jalen Collins is still on the board in the second round.
Seattle Seahawks: Tre Jackson, G, Florida State
- Tre Jackson is a pure right guard. He's still the best right guard available. Seattle needs someone to replace James Carpenter at left guard. The Seahawks take a right guard to play left guard hoping it works. It may backfire, but you cannot criticize Seattle for choosing Jackson over the other guards left int he draft.
New England Patriots: Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami Ohio
- Quinten Rollins is the top cornerback left. The Patriots go with a cornerback after surprising everyone with A.J. Cann in the first round. Adding Rollins at the end of the second round would be a steal.
