Jason Bantle's 2015 NFL Mock Draft
Round 1 Picks 17-32
Posted By Jason Bantle Last Updated: April 30, 2015.
San Diego Chargers: D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida
- San Diego needs an eventual replacement for King Dunlap at left tackle. The Chargers would also like to get a right tackle so D.J. Fluker can move inside to right guard complimenting left guard Orlando Franklin. D.J. Humphries bulked up to 307 lbs and showed incredible versatility at Florida's Pro Day.
- Humphries has better pass blocking than Ereck Flowers. Not only that, San Diego brought in Humphries for an individual workout.
Previous Pick: Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
Kansas City Chiefs: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
- If you grade the 10 best receivers based on overall talent in the 2015 NFL Draft, Dorial Green-Beckham comes in at #4. If you are grading these players based on character Green-Beckham barely gets into the top 10 which is why most mock drafts have Green-Beckham being the seventh receiver drafted.
- I believe the Chiefs look past his character and take a local kid that did an awesome job giving back to the community by going back to his old high school. The other thing I like about this pick is that Alex Smith gets to fire footballs with former Missouri Tigers like Jeremy Maclin and Dorial Green-Beckham who transferred to Oklahoma, but never suited up with the Sooners.
Previous Pick: Anthony Harris, S, Virginia
Cleveland Browns: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State
- As a Bengals fan, I guarantee you that Cleveland will do something stupid with one of their two first round draft picks. If you don't believe me see the 2007, 2012, and 2014 NFL Drafts where they had 2 first round picks and drafted busts at quarterback with their second first round pick in 2007, 2012, and 2014.
- This time the Browns will take Ohio State's Devin Smith over Jaelen Strong, Breshad Perriman, and Phillip Dorsett.
Previous Pick: Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah
Philadelphia Eagles: Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami FL
- I don't know why the Eagles would draft Dorsett here. The Miami receiver has been building a lot of momentum moving up draft boards, and the Eagles could use a guy in the slot. The Eagles need a slot receiver more than anything and Dorsett is better in the slot than both Perriman and Strong who are on the outside.
- At the same time, Chip Kelly may have some master plan to get Sebastian the Hurricane, Miami FL's mascot that is a duck to leave the U and go to Oregon by holding Dorsett hostage in Philadelphia by drafting the Hurricanes star receiver at 20 only to ruin Dorsett's career or trade him after he makes the Pro Bowl just to piss off the loyal Eagles fanbase once his contract expires.
Previous Pick: Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri
Cincinnati Bengals: Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon
- One pass blocker that really caught my attention was Jake Fisher out of Oregon. Has the versatility to play left tackle or right tackle. Andrew Whitworth and Andre Smith both enter contract years. Fisher may sit out his rookie season unless one of these two gets injured, but he can start in 2016 while the Bengals save some cap space with A.J. Green, Mohammed Sanu, and both of their offensive tackles set to be Free Agents in 2016.
Previous Pick: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
Pittsburgh Steelers: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
- I don't think many of the cornerbacks are can't miss prospect. One guy that deserves to go a lot higher is Trae Waynes. The Steelers will capitalize off the idiocy of teams on draft day once again if Waynes falls to the Steelers.
Detroit Lions: Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida
- Detroit already has Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. A slot receiver is still needed and Detroit tends to take the best player available over a critical position of need. An example of this took place last year. They had the tenth pick and an opportunity to draft Michigan left tackle Taylor Lewan. Instead the Lions passed on him for Eric Ebron when they already had Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria which I still don't understand to this day.
Previous Pick: Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
Arizona Cardinals: Byron Jones, CB, Connecitcut
- Patrick Peterson needs a #2 cornerback across from him now that Antonio Cromartie is gone. I like Byron Jones going to Arizona here.
Previous Pick: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
Carolina Panthers: Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami FL
- Carolina needs a right tackle next to Michael Oher. I cannot see the Panthers passing on Ereck Flowers at this juncture.
Previous Pick: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
Baltimore Ravens: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
- The Ravens take a #1 cornerback here. Marcus Peters is the best cover corner, but character concerns cause him to drop. Teams in the top half continue to make foolish choices while the Steelers and Ravens both land Pro Bowl cornerbacks.
Previous Pick: Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
Dallas Cowboys: Malcolm Brown, DT, Texas
- Hometown Longhorn Malcolm Brown gets drafted here. Dallas really needs a new defensive tackle.
Previous Pick: Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina
Denver Broncos: Cameron Erving, C, Florida State
- Denver will spend their first round pick on an offensive lineman. Cameron Erving is the top offensive lineman available with this pick.
Previous Pick: Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon
Indianapolis Colts: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
- The Colts only have two major needs to address on secondary. Those needs are at cornerback and safety. The Colts can either take Kevin Johnson out of Wake Forest or Landon Collins out of Alabama.
- Kevin Johnson might have a better career. Landon Collins is more likely to be selected in the firs round even though I think he busts. This is a really weak safety class, and I do believe Collins busts as the Colts starting strong safety, but he's the one safety that's a safe bet to go in the late part of the first round.
Previous Pick: T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh
Green Bay Packers: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami FL
- Green Bay needs a 3-4 middle linebacker now that A.J. Hawk is gone. Rotoworld believes that Denzel Perryman will go to Green Bay in the first round and I can see why since he's my best inside linebacker left. Taking Perryman allows Matthews to move back to the outside.
Previous Pick: Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
New Orleans Saints: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
- New Orleans got rid of Kenny Stills. Arizona State's Jaelen Strong has better size and ability to catch in the red zone than both Marques Colston or rookie Brandin Cooks. Adding a tight end in the second round will maximize what the Saints can do in the passing game.
Previous Pick: Clive Walford, TE, Miami FL
New England Patriots: A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina
- I gave the Rams Brett Hundley at this spot in my last mock after trading up with New England. In this mock the Patriots take South Carolina's left guard A.J. Cann. Cann has the versatility to play left guard, center, or right guard and some are calling him a sleeper. Bill Belichick will recognize his potential and look like a genius for taking him in the first round after NFL Draft pundits at ESPN call this a reach. That's basically what we see from the Patriots year in and year out on Draft Day under Bill Belichick.
