There are three second round talents still on the board in the third round. Those three players are Jeremiah Trotter Jr. a linebacker on Clemson, T.J. Tampa, a cornerback on Iowa State, and Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman. I already gave Carolina Michigan cornerback Mike Sainristl to start the second round as a nickel cornerback, and Ladd McConkey so Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is getting picked here at 65.
Josey Jewell signed a three year contract with Carolina in Free Agency at 3-4 middle linebacker where the Panthers cannot buyout Jewell until 2026. Shaq Thompson, Carolina's 2015 first round pick enters a contract year. Drafting Payton Wilson and stashing him as someone for the future makes a lot of sense.
The 6-0 228 lb Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is the son of Jeremiah Trotter. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is a good player to Carolina to stash as a future replacement for Shaq Thompson.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. had 54 solo tackles, 34 assisted tackles, 88 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 2 interceptions, adn 1 defensive touchdown in 2023. Carolina stashes Jeremiah Trotter Jr. for the future just in case Shaq Thompson wants more than Carolina is willing to pay.
Arizona needs a day 1 starter at center. The Arizona Cardinals cannot go another season with Hjalte Froholdt at center.
The 6-4 298 lb Sedrick Van Pran has the pass blocking, run blocking, run blocking strength, and run blocking footwork. Sedrick Van Pran's pass blocking strength is adequate enough to make him a day 1 starter in the NFL, but it's not elite like his run blocking. I also feel like Sedrick Van Pran has to improve his pass blocking footwork. At the same time, Sedrick Van Pran is a massive upgrade over Hjalte Froholdt or Jon Gaines II as he is the only center left on the board that is a guaranteed day 1 starter.
The only two players with a second round grade left on my board for the Washington Commanders at 66 are Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa and Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman. I'm leaning towards T.J. Tampa coming off the board here.
The 6-1 189 lb T.J. Tampa was graded out as a top 3 cornerback in this draft according to one of my friends that watches Iowa State religiously. I ended up giving T.J. Tampa a B grade in man coverage, a B grade in zone coverage, and a B grade in press coverage. Not dominant in any category, not a liability anywhere either. He does have the footbal IQ to play cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, and cover 4. T.J. Tampa doesn't have the elite game speed or the 40-yard time you covet to keep up with wide receivers, but he's solid enough to get the job done in the NFL.
Washington currently has Emmanuel Forbes their 2023 first round pick at field cornerback, Michael Davis, the Los Angeles Chargers boundary cornerback takes over for Kendall Fuller as the new boundary cornerback, Washington also has Benjamin St. Juste a 2021 third round pick in a contract year and Quan Martin, a 2023 second round pick out of Illinois competing for the nickel cornerback job. T.J. Tampa would get a shot to compete with those guys in a really deep cornerback room for the nickel job, but my guess is T.J. Tampa would be the quarter cornerback in five cornerback sets like a quarters package as a rookie and would work his way up the depth chart.
Both Michael Davis and Benjamin St. Juste are in contract years, yet both cornerbacks appear to be stop-gaps with Davis on a one-year prove it deal and Benjamin St. Juste on the final year of his rookie deal. My guess is Washington would redshirt T.J. Tampa unless he's in quarters packages if the top four cornerbacks ahead of him on are all fully healthy and try to develop him by having him learn the playbook and improving his coverage during practice. Even though I gave T.J. Tampa a B grade in man, zone, and press, I do believe his coverage grade can improve to an A- or A grade if he goes to a team where he can redshirt and develop by learning under veteran cornerbacks for a year before getting playing time, and that's exactly the situation Washington finds themselves in here at 67. If Washington took a more long-term approach with T.J. Tampa, he would be ready to start at boundary cornerback by 2025 complimenting Emmanuel Forbes and Quan Martin could remain inside as a nickel cornerback.
There were two players in Joel Klatt's top 50 that didn't make my second round. Those two players were Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman and Michigan linebacker Junior Colson. I already gave New England a quarterback at 3 and a left tackle at 34. Keon Coleman who was once a top 10 prospect feels like a slam dunk pick at 68.
The 6-3 212 lb Keon Coleman had 58 receptions, 798 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns as the number one target at Michigan State in 2022. Keon Coleman transferred to Florida State the following season where he had 50 receptions, 658 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns in 2023.
Keon Coleman ran a 4.63 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine. He ran a 4.84 40-yard dash at Florida State's Pro Day. Another Florida State wide receiver with a similar profile to Keon Coleman was Anquan Boldin.
I saw Keon Coleman run 18/30 routes on the route tree as he's my final wide receiver that I have with the upside to develop into a number one target in the NFL. I believe he can be the New England Patriots number one flanker wide receiver right out of the gate with Kendrick Bourne as the secondary wide receiver, Demario Douglas as the slot receiver, K.J. Osborn as the number four wide receiver, Tyquan Thornton as the number five wide receiver, and JuJu Smith-Schuster as the number six wide receiver on this depth chart. Jalen Reagor and Kayshon Boutte would be number seven and eight on this depth chart, if they made the New England Patriots final roster, but would be competing for roster spots. With that much depth at wide receiver, whoever New England drafts at quarterback will be in good position to succeed as long as you get a left tackle in the second round and someone like Keon Coleman in the third round because New England addressed tight end in Free Agency by bringing back Hunter Henry and also signing Austin Hooper as their backup tight end on a one-year deal.
The Los Angeles Chargers get a 3-4 middle linebacker to pair with Denzel Perryman here. Jim Harbaugh could get his former Michigan linebacker Junior Colson here and it would be a superb value pick in the third round. Colson is the last player from Joel Klatt's top 50 to come off the board at 69.
The 6-2 238 lb Junior Colson had 44 solo tackles, 51 assisted tackles, 95 total tackles, 2 deflections from pass breakups, 2 tackles for a loss, and 2 quarterback hurries in 2023. Junior Colson is great at blitzing and dropping back into coverage, but I feel like his run stuffing, blocking, and wrapping up tackles leave a lot to be desired from what I saw when watching his film against Penn State. Colson is one of a handful of 3-4 middle linebackers left that's good enough to be a day 1 starter despite these weaknesses needing improvement. I'm sure Jim Harbaugh will find a way to get the most out of Junior Colson, if the Chargers draft him in teh third round.
I've seen Junior Colson line up at 4-3 right outside linebacker, 3-4 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, 3-4 middle linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, and 3-4 left outside linebacker. He's more versatile than I originally thought. I believe his strengths and weaknesses are about even making Junior Colson a tremendous value pick for the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round.
New York drafts the first running back here. Braelon Allen is the youngest running back in the 2024 NFL Draft as he's only 20. Braelon Allen also has the speed, pass catching, ball carrier vision, and pass blocking you want from an NFL running back making him a perfect replacement to Saquon Barkley here in the third round.
The 6-1 235 lb Braelon Allen had 186 carries, 1,268 rushing yards, 8 receptions, 39 receiving yards, 194 touches, 1,307 total yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns as a freshman in 2021. Braelon Allen had 230 carries, 1,242 rushing yards, 13 receptions, 104 receiving yards, 243 touches, 1,346 total yards, and 11 rushing touchdowns as a sophomore in 2022. Braelon Allen had 181 carries, 984 rushing yards, 28 receptions, 131 receiving yards, 199 touches, 1,115 total yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns as a junior in 2023.
There were questions about Braelon Allen's pass blocking heading into the season, but he fixed that versus Purdue. There's a very good reason why Braelon Allen is my top running back in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Arizona gets a running back to compliment James Conner with this third round pick that Arizona got from the Tennessee Titans in the Will Levis trade from the 2023 NFL Draft. The 6-0 216 lb Jonathon Brooks has the speed, pass catching, ball carrier vision, and pass blocking to be a future starting NFL running back. Jonathon Brooks can be a change of pace running back to James Conner.
Jonathon Brooks had 187 carries, 1,139 rushing yards, 10 rushiing touchdowns, 25 receptions, 286 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 212 touches, 1,425 total yards, and 11 total touchdowns in 2023. Jonathon Brooks can start out as a change of pace running back to James Conner, but could become the full-time starter if Conner got injured at any point before his contract in Arizona ran out.
I posted a film cut of Texas running back Jonathon Brooks VS Oklahoma. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
The 6-4 247 lb Cade Stover would be an ideal replacement to C.J. Uzomah. Cade Stover would give the New York Jets a day 1 starter at tight end.
Cade Stover had 36 receptions, 406 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Cade Stover had 41 receptions, 576 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2023.
Cade Stover can run all 30 routes on the route tree. Putting a tight end as talented as Cade Stover next to wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams will make things problematic for secondaries facing the New York Jets as long as Aaron Rodgers stays healthy.
I posted a film cut of Ohio State tight end Cade Stover VS Notre Dame. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Detroit gets a strong safety for depth. Javon Bullard is versatile enough to play strong safety, free safety, and nickel cornerback.
The 5-10 197 lb Javon Bullard had 39 solo tackles, 17 assisted tackles, 56 total tackles, 5 deflections from pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and 1 tackle for a loss in 2023. I gave Javon Bullard an A grade in man coverage, an A in zone coverage, an A- grade in press coverage, an A grade in tackling, and A- in run stuffing, and a D+ grade in blocking. The D+ in blocking is the biggest reason why Javon Bullard fell to the third round of my mock draft.
Javon Bullard can play in cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, and cover 4 schemes. Javon Bullard ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine and would be a nice depth piece at strong safety behind Ifeatu Melifonwu.
Atlanta drafts another cornerback after losing Jeffrey Okudah. Max Melton is a good value pick here.
The 5-11 193 lb Max Melton would be a good fit for Atlanta here as he could compete with Clark Phillips III for the boundary cornerback role next to A.J. Terrell with the loser moving over to nickel cornerback. Max Melton had 21 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 32 total tackles, 6 deflections from pass breakups, 4 tackles for a loss, 3 interceptions, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in 2023.
I gave Max Melton an A- in man coverage, a B+ in zone coverage, an a A in press coverage Mas Melton can play in cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, or cover 4. Max Melton is better suited for a man coverage scheme where he can press and Atlanta may be a good fit for Melton since it is a team where Melton is guaranteed to be a top three cornerback.
Jonah Elliss is the son of Luther Elliss. He's also the younger brother of Kaden Elliss.
The 6-2 248 lb Jonah Elliss can compete with Demarcus Walker for the 4-3 left end job across from Montez Sweat. Jonah Elliss had 23 solo tackles, 14 assisted tackles, 37 total tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, 3 deflections from a pass breakup, and 1 forced fumble in 2023.
Denver cannot role with Jarrett Stidham as their starting quarterback. Denver has Zach Wilson, Jarrett Stidham, and Ben DiNucci as their top three quarterbacks. Luckily for the Denver Broncos, four quarterbacks still on the board have the ceiling to develop into NFL starters despite all being raw coming out of College. Spencer Rattler the 2024 Senior Bowl MVP is heading to Denver here.
The 6-0 219 lb Spencer Rattler had 3,186 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, 104 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns, 3,290 total yards, 23 total touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and a 68.9% completion percentage in 12 games in 2023. Spencer Rattler was also the MVP of the 2024 Reese's Senior Bowl going 4/4 65 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, and no interceptions or incompletions. Spencer Rattler was the first quarterback on the losing team to win MVP since Justin Herbert in 2020 and also the first quarterback to not throw an incomplete pass in the Senior Bowl game since Kenny Pickett back in the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl.
I posted a film cut of South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler VS North Carolina. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Las Vegas drafts a cornerback here. Caelen Carson is the top cornerback on the board.
The 6-0 199 lb Caelen Carson had 29 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, 42 total tackles, 8 deflections from pass breakups, 1 tackle for a loss, and 1 forced fumble in 2023. I gave Caelen Carson an A- in man coverage, an A+ in zone coverage, and an A+ in press coverage.
Caelen Carson can play in a cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, or cover 4. scheme. Caelen Carson didn't run the 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine or Wake Forest's 2024 Pro Day.
That's frankly the only reason he fell to 77. Caelen Carson may be good enough to force field cornerback Nate Hobbs over to boundary cornerback where Hobbs would be covering number two wide receivers instead of number one wide receivers while Jack Jones plays nickel cornerback on the inside complimenting Caelen Carson and Nate Hobbs.
The Washington Commanders draft a replacement to Chris Samuel. Ja'Lynn Polk is the top wide receiver with a third round grade on my board.
The 6-1 203 lb Ja'Lynn Polk had 69 receptions, 1,159 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns in 2023. Ja'Lynn Polk ran 18/30 routes on the route tree.
Ja'Lynn Polk projects as a number two target in the NFL. Ja'Lynn Polk will start out as a slot receiver if he can beat out Olamide Zaccheus for the slot receiver job since Washington has a flanker receiver in Terry McLaurin while 2022 first round pick Jahan Dotson is the secondary wide receiver. Washington will have quite the receiver tandem with Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Ja'Lynn Polk in the slot.
I posted a film cut of Washington wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk VS Oregon. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Atlanta has Drake London as their flanker wide receiver, Darnell Mooney as their secondary wide receiver, and Rondale Moore as their slot receiver. Darnell Mooney was 112 out of 128 wide receivers on Pro Football Focus and Rondale Moore was slightly worse ranking 116 out of 128 wide receivers on Pro Football Focus in 2023. Drafting Florida State wide receiver Johnny Wilson to challenge those two to stay on top of things wouldn't hurt.
The 6-6 237 lb Johnny Wilson had 43 receptions, 897 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Jonny Wilson had 41 receptions, 617 receiving yards, and 2 receiving touchdowns in 2023. Johnny Wilson ran 18/30 routes on the route tree when watching him on film.
Johnny Wilson ran a 4.53 at the 2024 NFL Combine. Johnny Wilson will start out as the number four wide receiver in Atlanta during his rookie season. He could end up becoming the number three wide receiver in 2025 if Atlanta moves on from Rondale Moore after the final year of his rookie contract.
Cincinnati gets a replacement to Tyler Boyd here. Right now Cincinnati has Ja'Marr Chase at flanker receiver, Tee Higgins as the secondary wide receiver, and Trenton Irwin last years number four wide receiver taking over Boyd as the slot receiver. I see Cincinnati drafting someone here to challenge Trenton Irwin, Charlie Jones, and Andrei Iosivas for the slot receiver job.
Cincinnati gets the best wide receiver on my board here at 80 after getting a tight end and defensive tackle with their first two picks. Washington wide receiver Jalen McMillan was the wide receiver that I mocked to the Cincinnati Bengals here.
The 6-1 197 lb Jalen McMillan had 79 receptions, 1,098 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Jalen McMillan had 45 receptions, 559 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2023.
Jalen McMillan can run 18/30 routes on the route tree. Worst case scenario, he's the number six wide receiver on Cincinnati's depth chart with all the talent the Cincinnati Bengals have at wide receiver and the best case scenario is he wins the slot receiver job his rookie year and becomes the number two wide receiver in 2025 or 2026 if the Cincinnati Bengals move on from Tee Higgins by that point.
Seattle gets a right guard to challenge Anthony Bradford Jr. for the right guard job. Zak Zinter has a higher ceiling than Anthony Bradford Jr. or Tremayne Anchrum making him a good pick here.
The 6-6 309 lb Zak Zinter has the pass blocking, run blocking, zone blocking, pass blocking footwork, run blocking footwork, and pass blocking strength you want in a right guard. Drafting Zak Zinter would be huge for Seattle.
I got Charles Cross at left tackle, Graham Barton at left guard, Olu Oluwaitimi at center, Zak Zinter at right guard, and Abraham Lucas at right tackle. Seattle would have Laken Tomlinson as the backup left guard, Anthony Bradford Jr. or Tremayne Anchrum as the backup right guard, and George Fant as the backup right tackle giving Seattle plenty of depth to compliment their starters on the offensive line.
Indianapolis drafts another 4-3 right outside linebacker to push E.J. Speed for playing time. Ty'Ron Hopper has the versatility to play 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, and 3-4 middle linebacker with his versatility.
The 6-2 231 lb Ty'Ron Hopper had 36 solo tackles, 19 assisted tackles, 55 total tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 6 quarterback hurries, 3 sacks, and 3 deflections from pass breakups in 2023. Ty'Ron Hopper has the pass rushing, run stuffing, and coverage you want in an NFL linebacker.
The Los Angeles Rams have Alaric Jackson at left tackle, Jonah Jackson at left guard, Steve Avila is moving inside to center after a strong rookie season at left guard, Kevin Dotson got extended at right guard, and Rob Havenstein is the right tackle. Drafitng another left tackle to push Alaric Jackson wouldn't be a bad idea since Joseph Noteboom got benched for Alaric Jackson.
The Los Angeles Rams get a left tackle to push Alaric Jackson and Joseph Noteboom for playing time. Yale left tackle Kiron Amigadje is the only left tackle left in this draft that could be a day 1 starter at left tackle.
The 6-5 323 lb Kiran Amigadje didn't allow a sack in his two seasons as Yale's left tackle as he is the top FCS player in the 2024 NFL Draft. Kiran Amegadje has the pass blocking, run blocking, zone blocking, pass blocking footwork, run blocking footwork, and run blocking strength. You'd like to see his pass blocking strength improve.
Pittsburgh gets a left guard that can challenge Isaac Seumalo for playing time. The last guard in this draft that could be a day 1 starter is Boston College guard Christian Mahogany who showed the versatility to play left guard, center, and right guard at the 2024 East West Shrine Bowl.
The 6-3 314 lb Christian Mahogany has the pass blocking, run blocking, zone blocking, pass blocking footwork, run blocking footwork, pass blocking strength, and run blocking strength you want in an NFL guard. Christian Mahogany didn't allow a sack in 2023.
Pittsburgh's offensive line would have Dan Moore Jr. at left tackle, Isaac Seumalo at left guard, Jackson Powers-Johnson at center, James Daniels at right guard, and Broderick Jones at right tackle. Pittsburgh could use Kingsley Suamatia who I mocked in round 2 as a swing tackle and Christian Mahogany who I mocked in round 3 as a swing guard. Both Christian Mahogany and Kingsley Suamatia will be starters on Pittsburgh's offensive line at the very latest. If either day 2 pick gets a chance to start in 2024 due to an injury to Dan Moore Jr. or Isaac Seumalo I think both rookies will take the starting jobs from the veterans and not give them back.
Cleveland gets a 4-3 middle linebacker for depth behind Jordan Hicks. Jaylan Ford would be a good option here and I do believe Jaylan Ford has a higher ceiling than Jordan Hicks.
The 6-2 240 lb Jaylan Ford had 47 solo tackles, 51 assisted tackles, 101 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 6 quarterback hurries, 2 deflections from pass breakups, 2 interceptions, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in 2023. Jaylan Ford can stop the run or drop back into coverage when watching him on tape. Getting pressure on the quarterback isn't a strength to his game, but he does better in this category than the remaining middle linebackers on the board at this point in the draft plus there's potential to develop that part of his game more if Jaylan Ford sits behind Jordan Hicks because his 6 quarterback hurries this past season is good for a middle linebacker.
I posted a film cut of Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford VS Oklahoma. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Houston gets a 4-3 middle linebacker that could be a day 1 starter. North Carolina linebacker Cedric Gray can play 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, and 3-4 middle linebacker with his versatility.
The 6-2 232 lb Cedric Gray had 82 solo tackles, 64 assisted tackles, 146 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 6 deflections from pass breakups, 5 quarterback hurries, 3 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and 1 sack in 2022. Cedric Gray had 64 solo tackles, 57 assisted tackles, 121 total tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 7 quarterback hurries, 5 sacks, 4 deflections from pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception in 2023.
Cedric Gray dominated versus South Carolina in the season opener showcasing elite run stuffing and coverage that you want from a middle linebacker. I know this because I uploaded that full game to our Rumble Channel despite not having enough space on my computer to keep the North Carolina VS South Carolina full game on my computer.
Dallas lost Jonathan Hankins at 4-3 defensive tackle. Dallas has 2023 first round pick Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa at 4-3 defensive tackle, but needs bodies for depth. Leonard Taylor III is a good replacement for Neville Gallimore who Dallas also lost in addition to Jonathan Hankins at 4-3 defensive tackle.
The 6-4 303 lb Leonard Taylor III had 7 solo tackles, 12 assisted tackles, 19 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, and 1 quarterback hurry in 2023. Leonard Taylor III has the versatility to play 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 right end, 3-4 nose tackle, and 3-4 left end.
Green Bay gets a right tackle for depth here since there's no left tackle left in this draft that can supplant Rasheed Walker. Green Bay also signed Andre Dillard to be Rasheed Walker's backup at left tackle, so that may incline Green Bay to draft a right tackle for depth here now. Christian Jones would be a perfect backup right tackle to Zach Tom. Jones could develop behind Tom for two years and then take over if Green Bay doesn't want to extend Tom after his rookie deal which expires in 2026.
The 6-5 318 lb Christian Jones has the pass blocking, run blocking, pass blocking footwork, run blocking footwork, pass blocking strength, and run blocking strength. Christian Jones could improve as a zone blocker, but he practically checks every other box you want in an offensive tackle having success against Dallas Turner on film.
I posted a film cut of the Texas offensive line VS Alabama. Texas right tackle Christian Jones is the top draft eligible prospect on the Texas Longhorns offensive line in the 2024 NFL Draft. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Tampa Bay drafts a 3-4 middle linebacker after losing Devin White. Lavonte David is back as a starter with K.J. Britt starting in a contract year. Tampa Bay can draft Tommy Eichenberg and develop him for a year. Then Tommy Eichenberg and SirVocea Dennis can compete for the starting 3-4 middle linebacker job next to Lavonte David if he doesn't retire. You can also draft Eichenberg and groom him to be the successor to Lavante David too.
The 6-2 233 lb Tommy Eichenberg had 41 solo tackles, 41 assisted tackles, 82 total tackles, 4 quarterback hurries, 2.5 sacks, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in 2023. Tommy Eichenberg has the run stuffing you want in a linebacker. His coverage was okay versus Penn State, but suspect against Michigan.
I posted a film cut of Ohio State linebacker Tommy Eichenberg VS Penn State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Arizona should have Marvin Harrison Jr. as a flanker wide receiver. Arizona uses this pick to get a wide receiver to push Michael Wilson for the secondary wide receiver job with the loser of that competition moving to slot receiver. I gave Arizona Holy Cross wide receiver Jalen Coker.
The 6-1 208 lb Jalen Coker had 59 receptions, 1,035 receiving yards, and 15 receiving touchdowns in 2023. Jalen Coker can run 18/30 routes on the route tree and reminds me so much of Christian Watson coming out of North Dakota State that it is downright scary.
Green Bay drafts an eventual replacement to A.J. Dillon that can start out as a third string running back behind Josh Jacobs and A.J. Dillon before replacing Dillon as the change of pace running back in 2025. One running back with the speed, pass catching, ball carrier vision, and pass blocking is Michigan running back Blake Corum. Even if Blake Corum became your number two running back in 2025, he would be the starter by 2027 at the very latest once Josh Jacobs contract is up.
The 5-8 205 lb Blake Corum had 144 carries, 952 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, 24 receptions, 141 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 166 touches, 1,093 total yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns in 2021. Blake Corum had 247 carries, 1,463 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, 11 receptions, 80 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 258 touches, 1,543 total yards, and 19 total touchdowns in 2022. Blake Corum had 258 carries, 1,245 rushing yards, 27 rushing touchdowns, 16 receptions, 117 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 274 touches, 1,462 total yards, and 28 total touchdowns in 2023.
Tampa Bay uses this third round pick that they got from Detroit in the Carlton Davis trade to draft a replacement at cornerback. Right now Tampa Bay has last years boundary cornerback Jamel Dean at field cornerback, last years nickel cornerback Zyon McCollum at boundary cornerback, and Tavierre Thomas at nickel cornerback. I believe Florida State cornerback Renardo Green is a top 3 cornerback on Tampa Bay's depth chart as a day 1 starter if the Buccaneers pick him here and he might end up developing into Tampa Bay's number one field cornerback.
The 6-9 186 lb Renardo Green had 32 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 43 total tackles, 13 deflections from pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1 interception, 1 quarterback hurry, and a 0.5 a sack in 2023. I gave Renardo Green an A grade in man coverage, an A- in zone coverage, and an A in press coverage. Renardo Green can play in a cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, or cover 4 scheme.
The Baltimore Ravens do not have a backup strong safety or a backup free safety behind Kyle Hamilton or Marcus Williams on the depth chart. Guys like Caleb Bullock, Jaden Hicks, and Beau Brade have no business going in day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft, but one guy who deserves to go in day 2 that isn't getting the respect he deserves from the mainstream media is Appalachian State safety Nick Ross.
The 5-11 190 lb Nick Ross lined up at both strong safety and free safety on film while running a 4.53 40-yard dash, a 33.5 inch vertical, and 23 reps on the bench press at Appalachian State's Pro Day and no safety at the 2024 NFL Combine had more than 22 reps on the bench press. I gave Nick Ross an A- grade in man coverage, an A grade in zone coverage, and a C- grade in press coverage.
Nick Ross had 43 solo tackles, 62 assisted tackles, 105 total tackles, 4 deflections from pass breakups, 3.5 tackles for a loss, 2 quarterback hurries, 1.5 sacks, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery in 2023. Nick Ross can play in cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, or cover 4 coverage schemes.
I posted a film cut of Appalachian State free safety Nick Ross VS James Madison. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
San Francisco gets a starting right tackle that's an upgrade over Colton McKivitz in the third round. Notre Dame right tackle Blake Fisher is the best offensive tackle on the board and my only third round offensive tackle left on the board.
The 6-6 310 lb Blake Fisher has the pass blocking, run blocking, pass blocking footwork, and run blocking footwork you want in a right tackle. He needs to get stronger and learn a zone blocking scheme, but he's got enough upside to be a long-term starter at right tackle which is more than you can say about Colton McKivitz. Blake Fisher will start by 2025 at the very latest even if McKivitz manages to win the competition between him and Fisher in training camp.
I posted a film cut of Notre Dame's offensive line VS Ohio State. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Kansas City gets a 4-3 defensive tackle for depth behind Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi who are both back with the Kansas City Chiefs for one more year. Michael Hall Jr. would be a great value pick for Kansas City as the Chiefs can develop him as he adds more muscle.
The 6-2 280 lb Michael Hall jr. had 9 solo tackles, 15 assisted tackles, 24 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 quarterback hurries, and 1.5 sacks in 2023. Michael Hall Jr. has the pass rushing, run stuffing, and ability to swat passes when anticipating coverage despite getting limited reps at Ohio State in 2023.
I posted a film cut of Ohio State DL Michael Hall Jr. VS Notre Dame. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Jacksonville got this compensation pick at 96 thanks to Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 second round pick Jawaan Taylor signing a huge contract with the Kansas City Chiefs at right tackle during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Jawaan Taylor got a Super Bowl ring at right tackle in Kansas City, but Jacksonville got the first compensation pick in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to Jawaan Taylor signing in Kansas City.
Jacksonville has Arik Armstead at 3-4 right end, DaVon Hamilton at 3-4 nose tackle, and Roy Robertson-Harris at 3-4 left end. Getting someone like Michigan defensive tackle Kris Jenkins who has the versatility to play 4-3 right end, 3-4 right end, 4-3 defensive tackle, 4-3 left end, and 3-4 left end in a depth role would be huge for the Jacksonville Jaguars here.
The 6-3 299 lb Kris Jenkins had 17 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 37 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 3 quarterback hurries, 2.5 sacks, and 1 interception in 2023. Kris Jenkins is the son of the former player with the same name as his dad and he's known for his pass rushing and run stuffing at Michigan before running a 4.91 40-yard dash and doing 29 reps on the bench press at the 2024 NFL Combine.
Cincinnati got this compensation pick at 97 thanks to Cincinnati Bengals 2018 second round pick Jessie Bates III signing with the Atlanta Falcons during the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Cincinnati has two third round picks thanks to Jessie Bates III taking the bag to play elsewhere.
Cincinnati brings in a running back to compete with Zack Moss and Chase Brown for reps at running back. Florida State running back Trey Benson is a bargain at this point in the third round.
The 6-0 216 lb Trey Benson had 154 carries, 990 rushing yards, 13 receptions, 144 receiving yards, 167 touches, 1,134 total yards, and 9 rushing touchdowns in 2022. Trey Benson had 156 carries, 905 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, 20 receptions, 227 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 176 touches, 1,132 total yards, and 15 total touchdowns in 2023.
Trey Benson has the speed and pass catching you want despite having inconsistent ball carrier vision and pass blocking that needs to improve. Despite those weaknesses, he made up for that in a big way with a 4.39 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine.
Philadelphia got this compensation pick at 98 when their defensive tackle Javon Hargrave signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the 2023 NFL Free Agency Period. Philadelphia ended up trading this compensation pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers to get their former starting quarterback Kenny Pickett as a backup quarterback to Jalen Hurts which is ironic because the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Javon Hargrave in the 2016 NFL Draft before he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in Free Agency following his rookie deal.
Pittsburgh gets an upgrade at strong safety here to find a viable strong safety to pair with free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick The 6-4 230 lb James Williams can play strong safety, free safety, 4-3 right outside linebacker, 3-4 middle linebacker, or 4-3 left outside linebacker with his versatility.
James Williams had 48 solo tackles, 25 assisted tackles, 73 total tackles, 5 deflections from pass breakups, 3 quarterback hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception, and 0.5 tackle for a loss in 2023. I gave James Williams a B+ in man coverage, an A- in zone coverage, and a B in press coverage. James Williams does best in cover 2, cover 3, and cover 4 schemes.
The Los Angeles Rams got this comepnsation pick at 99 thanks to Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris getting hired to be the Atlanta Falcons head coach. Los Angeles, like Cincinnati has multiple third round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The 6-4 294 lb Ruke Orhorhoro had 13 solo tackles, 12 assisted tackles, 25 total tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, and 1 deflection from a pass breakup in 2023. Ruke Orhorhoro ran a 4.89 40-yard dash and did 29 reps on the bench press. Ruke Orhorhoro did win a double team against Miami FL's interior offensive line while also showing the versatility to play 3-4 right end, 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 nose tackle, and 3-4 left end.
San Francisco got this compensation pick at 100 thanks to the Tennessee Titans hiring former San Francisco 49ers assistant General Manager Ran Carthon as the Tennessee Titans new General Manager and the Tennessee Titans AFC South Rival, the Houston Texans hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their head coach. That's how San Francisco got the 100th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but San Francisco sent this pick to the Washington Commanders for defensive end Chase Young. Adam Peters got hired as the Washington Commanders new GM after being the assistant GM for John Lynch in 2023 taking over that position that Ran Carthon previously held before being hired as Washington's new GM for the 2024 NFL Season. Now Adam Peters gets to make the final pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft as the Washington Commanders GM as a result of the Chase Young trade.
The 6-1 223 lb Xavier Legette had 71 receptions, 1,255 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns in 2023. If you watched Xavier Legette veruss North Carolina in the film cut I posted you see a guy who can run all 30 routes on the route tree. He was also the last receiver in College football to drop a target last year which is why he generated the traction of a late first round prospect at one point in the draft process just looking at where he was in October of 2023 to where he is now in April of 2024.
The thing is Xavier Legette only ran 18/30 routes on the route tree consistently after that season opener. He also had a ton of drops in practice during the 2024 Reese's Senior Bowl and that conitnued in the gauntlett drill during the 2024 NFL Combine despite Legette's 4.39 40-yard dash. I don't trust the wide receivers on Washington's bench and Xavier Legette would be a top six wide receiver on Washington's depth chart even if the Washington Commanders doubled up at wide receiver with two of their three third round picks.
Xavier Legette could be a huge draft steal since he can run all 30 routes on the route tree. He could also be a guy who is raw because he only runs 18 of those routes as stated earlier with drops at the Senior Bowl along with drops at the Combine.
Washington will have Terry McLaurin at flanker receiver, Jahan Dotson at secondary receiver, Ja'Lynn Polk at slot receiver, Olamide Zaccheus as the number four wide receiver, Xavier Legette as the number five wide receiver, and Dyami Brown would be the number six wide receiver.
I posted a film cut of South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette VS North Carolina. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
