2017 NHL Mock Draft Final Mock: 7 Rounds

Round 5

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: June 23, 2017.

  1. Colorado Avalanche: David Kvasnicka, D, HC Plzen (Extraliga)

Colorado gets a defender to start the fifth round. David Kvasnicka has late third to early fourth round tape and is a steal at this point in the fifth round.

  2. Edmonton Oilers: Antoine Crete-Belzile, D, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (QMJHL)

Antoine Crete-Belzile is a llate fourth round prospect.. That means he's a steal in the fifth round.

  3. Vegas Golden Knights: Dayton Rasmussen, G, Chicago Steel (USHL)

The 6-2 201 lb Dayton Rasmussen has experience with 3 USHL teams. He got drafted by the Waterloo Blackhawks, but also played for the Tri-City Americans after getting traded to them as a rookie before being traded to the Chicago Steel later this year. Rasmussen has a very good save percentage and GAA so teams need to look past the fact he played for three different USHL teams. Rasmussen also led all goalies at the 2017 NHL Combine with 17 reps on the bench press.

  4. Arizona Coyotes: Patrick Khodorenko, C, Michigan State

Patrick Khodorenko can finish his NCAA career with Michigan State. When he's done, developing he will go straight to the AHL to develop more and may even get called up to the NHL one day if he's lucky.

  5. New Jersey Devils: Emil Oskanen, LW, Espoo Blues (SM Liiga)

Emil Oskanen is a fourth round talent. The Devils get a steal by taking him in the fifth round.

  6. St. Louis Blues: Jan Hladonik, C, HC Ocelan Trinec (Extraliga)

The St. Louis Blues get a forward with the versatility to play left wing, center, or right wing in the fifth round. Hladonik is a great value pick here.

  7. Detroit Red Wings: Georgi Ivanov, C, Lokomotiv Yaroslavi (KHL)

Detroit drafts a center for depth. Georgi Ivanov is the best player available at this point.

  8. Dallas Stars: Yaroslav Alexeyev, LW, Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL)

Dallas drafts the best player available. At this point that is Yaroslav Alexeyev who I see being a solid future player in the AHL on the Texas Stars.

  9. Florida Panthers: Kyle Jessiman, G, Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL)

The Panthers get a goalie to develop. The 5-10 165 lb Kyle Jessiman is a huge project, but he's the best player available at this point.

  10. Los Angeles Kings: Scott Walford, D, Victoria Royals (WHL)

The Kings get a defenseman. Scott Walford not only fills a need down the road, but he's also the top player on the board at this point.

  11. Chicago Blackhawks: Joni Ikonen, C, Frolunda Indians (Elitserien)

Chicago gets a developmental prospect. Joni Ikonen could go as high as the second round, but could also fall to the fifth round.

  12. Winnipeg Jets: Ian Mitchell, D, Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL)

Winnipeg takes Ian Mitchell here. Mitchell could go anywhere between the third and fifth round, but he's undersized at 5-10 165 lbs and that may hurt his stock.

  13. Philadelphia Flyers: Jack Rathbone, D, Dexter HS (MI)

Casey Mittelstadt and Dylan Samberg play in the USHL. They don't count as High School prospects as a result. That makes Jack Rathbone the top High School skater in the 2017 NHL Draft.

  14. Los Angeles Kings: Kiril Slepets, RW, Lokomotiv Yaroslavi (KHL)

Kiril Slepets is versatile enough to play left wing or right wing. He's a great fit for the Kings here in the fifth round.

  15. New York Islanders: Samuel Bucek, RW, Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL)

The Islanders draft the 6-3 178 lb Samuel Bucek here. Bucek is versatile enough to play left wing or right wing with his versatility.

  16. Calgary Flames: Santeri Virtanen, C, TPS (SM Liiga)

Santeri Virtanen is versatile enough to play left wing, center, or right wing. The 6-2 194 lb skater is the best prospect on TPS in the 2017 NHL Draft. Some have Virtanen going in the fourth round so this is a great value pick here.

  17. Toronto Maple Leafs: Cameron Crotty, D, Brockville Braves (CCHL)

Cameron Crotty is the top player on the board. Toronto adds him continuing to add building blocks to the blue line.

  18. Carolina Hurricanes: David Koch, C, Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL)

Vegas gets another center to develop. David Koch will be a future role player on the Chicago Wolves in the AHL after he finishes his WHL career with the Edmonton Oil Kings.

  19. New Jersey Devils: Dylan Coghlan, D, Tri-City Americans (WHL)

The 6-2 190 lb Dylan Coghlan could go anywhere between the third and fifth round. This is excellent value by New Jersey here with Coghlan.

  20. Chicago Blackhawks: Otto Latvala, D, HPK (SM Liiga)

Otto Latvala is 6-5 189 lbs. He's a great defenseman for Chicago to develop in the fifth round.

  21. New York Rangers: Ty Lewis, C, Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)

Ty Lewis is the line 3 center on the Brandon Wheat Kings. He got some valuable line 2 experience when Nolan Patrick got injured this season.

  22. Edmonton Oilers: Matthew Querica, LW, Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)

Edmonton drafts another left winger. Matthew Querica is a good value pick at this point the fifth round.

  23. Minnesota Wild: Ivan Prosvetov, G, Minnesota Magicians (NAHL)

Minnesota takes a local kid here to develop. He's a future player for the Iowa Wild in the AHL.

  24. Columbus Blue Jackets: Jacob McGrew, LW, Spokane Chiefs (WHL)

Columbus gets a left winger here. Jacob McGrew complimented Kailer Yamamoto on the other wing spot for Spokane.

  25. Montreal Canadiens: Adam Thilander, D, North Bay Battalion (OHL)

The Canadiens get Adam Thilander here. Thilander is a huge steal at this point in the fifth round with him being a fourth to fifth round prospect.

  26. Chicago Blackhawks: Brady Lyle, D, North Bay Battalion (OHL)

Chicago adds a future defenseman to develop. Brady Lyle is the top defender on the board.

  27. Washington Capitals: D'Artagnan Joly, RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar (QMJHL)

Washington grabs a right winger for depth. D'Artagan Jolly provides an awesome value pick here.

  28. Pittsburgh Penguins: Pavel Koltygin, LW, Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL)
Pavel Koltygin could go anywhere between the third and fifth round. This is superb value for Koltygin here.

  29. Anaheim Ducks: Dmitri Samorukov, D, Guelph Storm (OHL)

Anaheim may lose multiple defenseman this offseason. Dmitri Samorukov could go anywhere between the third and fifth round which is why this is an awesome pick.

  30. Nashville Predators: Arnaud Durandeau, LW, Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)

Nashville takes the best player on the board. At this point that player is Arnaud Durandeau.

  31. Pittsburgh Penguins: Thomas Gregoire, D, Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL)

The 5-11 174 lb Thomas Gregoire plays on a team in Sherbrooke that is known for producing offensive defenseman. He's the only fifth round prospect left so this is a perfect fit here.
