2023 NHL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds
Round 5
Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: June 28, 2023.
Anaheim Ducks: Matthew Soto, RW, Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)
- Anaheim gets a player with the upside to be a fourth line winger as Matthew Soto is versatile enough to play right winger his main position or left winger his secondary position. Matthew Soto was drafted fifth overall in the 2021 OHL Draft.
- The 5-11 179 lb Matthew Soto had 6 goals, 19 assists, 25 points, and a -19 +/- ratio in 53 OHL games in 2021-2022. Matthew Soto had 2 goals, 2 assists, and 4 points in 11 games during the 2022 OHL Playoffs. Matthew Soto had 15 goals, 27 assists, 42 points, and a -3 +/- ratio in 54 OHL games with the Kingston Frontenacs in 2022-2023.
- Matthew Soto has the skating, versatility, playmaking, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, and slap shot accuracy, offensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Matthew Soto has to improve his defensive awareness, but he could develop into a fourth line right winger down the road in the NHL, but could also be a first or second line right winger on the San Diego Gulls in the AHL if Anaheim signs him.
San Jose Sharks: Kalle Carlsson, C, Orebro HK (Elitserien)
- The 6-0 183 lb Kalle Carlsson had 11 goals, 24 assists, and 35 points in 44 games with Orebro HK's Under 20 Team in 2022-2023. Kalle Carlsson will be on Orebro HK's Under 20 Team this Fall and could get promoted to the Orebro HK SHL team in the league once known as Elitserien.
- Kalle Carlsson has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Kalle Carlsson needs to improve his ability to win face offs.
- San Jose can keep him in Sweden for now. Kalle Carlsson is someone who could surpise people as a late round pick and at the very worst, he's a viable center on the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL down the road. The earliest he would play in the NHL is 2027 and that's when Logan Couture's contract expires too.
- You also want to see Kalle Carlsson maintain his strong traits on film once he gets to the SHL. That's the only way San Jose will know if Kalle Carlsson has NHL potential or whether he's just another guy you play in the AHL. Best case scenario, you have Tomas Hertl as your first line center, Will Smith as your second line center, and Kalle Carlsson as your third line center if Logan Couture leaves San Jose or retires in 2027.
Chicago Blackhawks: Tanner Adams, RW, Tri-City Storm (USHL)
- The 5-11 184 lb Tanner Adams had 12 goals, 20 assists, 32 points, and a +21 +/- ratio in 62 USHL games in 2021-2022. Tyler Peddle had 0 goals, 0 assists, and 0 point during 5 games in the 2022 USHL Playoffs. Tanner Adams had 12 goals, 21 assists, 33 points, and a +13 +/- ratio in 49 USHL games in 2022-2023. Tanner Adams had 1 goal, 4 assists, and 5 points in 4 games during the 2023 USHL Playoffs.
- Tanner Adams has the skating, playmaking, passing, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Tanner Adams needs to develop his wrist shot when he enrolls at Providence this fall. He may show more explosion when skating if he builds more muscle. Tanner Adams was a first line right winger for Team USA at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Tournament and even won a face off despite having 0 goals, 1 assist, and 1 point in a 4 to 1 loss to Finland.
San Jose Sharks: Tanner Ludtke, C, Lincoln Stars (USHL)
- The 6-0 185 lb Tanner Ludtke had 23 goals, 38 assists, and 61 points in 30 games as the team captain of Lakeville South High School in in 2022-2023. Tanner Ludtke also had 32 goals, 34 assists, 66 points, and a +16 +/- ratio in 57 games for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL in 2022-2023.
- Tanner Ludtke is going to Omaha-Nebraska this Fall on a hockey scholarship. He could develop into a fourth line center down the road and at the very worst, he'll be a great AHL player on the San Jose Barracuda.
Montreal Canadiens: Samuel Barcik, D, HKM Zvolen (Tipos)
- Montreal takes the best player on the board in the fifth round. Samuel Barcik and his twin brother are both eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft as teammates on HKM Zvolen in the Tipos league which plays professional hockey in Slovakia. Juraj Slafkovsky a Slovakian native on TPS in Liiga and Simon Nemec a Slovakian defenseman on HK Nitra were the top two selections in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft with the country of Slovakia headlining last years NHL Entry Draft.
- Montreal shocked the league when hosting last years NHL Draft since Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes drafted Juraj Slafkovsky first overall and also took his best friend and childhood Slovakian friend Filip Mesar with their second first round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft rather than taking the consensus best overall prospect Shane Wright who fell to fourth overall. Montreal gambles on another Slovakian defenseman in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
- The 6-2 192 lb Samuel Barcik had 3 goals, 11 assists, and 14 points on the HK Zvolen Under 20 Team in 18 games in 2022-2023. Samuel Barcik had 0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points, and a +1 +/- ratio in 38 games in 2022-2023.
- Samuel Barcik has the skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Samuel Barcik is a player that you can stash and develop in the fifth round.
Arizona Coyotes: Juraj Pekarcik, RW, HK Nitra (Tipos)
- Arizona drafts a forward with the versatility to play all three spots on offense in a forward line. Juraj Pekarcik is versatile enough to play left winger, center, and right winger.
- The 6-2 183 lb Juraj Pekarcik had 9 goals, 11 assists, and 20 points with the HK Nitra Under 20 Team in 2022-2023. Juraj Pekarcik had 0 goals, 3 assists, 3 points, and a -2 +/- ratio with HK Nitra in 30 games in Tipos.
- Juraj Pekarcik has the skating, playmaking, passing, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Juraj Pekarcik is a great skater that passes and defends well. He just has to develop his shot.
Philadelphia Flyers: Ondrej Molnar, LW, Erie Otters (OHL)
- The 5-10 170 lb Ondrej Molnar was the fifth overall pick in the 2022 CHL Import Draft. Ondrej Molnar had 4 goals, 15 assists, 19 points, and a -27 +/- ratio in 2022-2023.
Washington Capitals: Spencer Sova, D, Erie Otters (OHL)
- Washington drafts another defenseman in the fifth round. Spencer Sova is a guy that I mocked in the fifth round of last years NHL Entry Draft that went undrafted.
- The 6-1 174 lb Spencer Sova was drafted eighth overall in the 2020 OHL Draft. Sova got texts from former Erie Otters like Dylan Strome and Alex Debrincat after getting drafted. He's a pretty complete two-way defenseman with an outstanding work ethic. I could point out that he's the first Capricorn to be drafted by the Erie Otters since Connor McDavid went first overall back in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, but that sounds extremely corny because Sova's passion for the game and attitude speaks for itself.
- Spencer Sova had 9 goals, 19 assists, 28 points, and a -24 +/- ratio in 2021-2022. Spencer Sova had 16 goals, 23 assists, 39 points, and a -37 +/- ratio in 2022-2023.
- Spencer Sova is effective on offense. He still hasn't fixed his weaknesses on defense. He is most likely a top four defenseman on the Hershey Bears in the AHL, but he could also develop into a bottom four defenseman on the Washington Capitals if he can fix his defense.
Detroit Red Wings: Arttu Karki, D, Tappara (SM Liiga)
- The 6-2 176 lb Arttu Karki had 13 goals, 26 assists, and 39 points with the Tappara Under 20 Team in 2022-2023. It's only a matter or time until Arttu Karki gets promoted to Liiga where he plays for Tappara the defending Liiga champion heading into next season.
St. Louis Blues: Ruslan Gazizov, C, London Knights (OHL)
- The 5-11 180 lb Ruslan Gazizov is versatile enough to play left wing, center, or right wing in the NHL in a back six role on a third or fourth line. He had 10 goals, 18 assists, 28 points, and a -6 +/- ratio as a rookie in 2021-2022. He also is the final third line forward to play in the 2022 CHL Prospects Game, plus he had 1 assist in 4 playoff games for the London Knights before they lost to the Kitchner Rangers in game 7 in the first round of the 2022 OHL Playoffs.
- Ruslan Gazizov went undrafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft despite the fact that I had a third round grade on him last year. Ruslan Gazizov had 23 goals, 25 assists, 48 points, and a +22 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Ruslan Gazizov had 2 goals, 6 assists, and 8 points in 17 games during the 2023 OHL Playoffs.
Carolina Hurricanes: Angus MacDonell, C, Mississauga Steelheads (OHL)
- Angus MacDonell was drafted thirteenth overall by the Sarnia Sting in the 2021 OHL Draft. Angus MacDonell was traded to the Mississauga Steelheads this season.
- The 5-9 180 lb Angus MacDonell had 10 goals, 11 assists, 21 points, and a +1 +/- ratio in 56 OHL games 2021-2022. Angus MacDonell had 29 goals, 12 assists, 41 points, and a +0 +/- ratio in 64 OHL games in 2022-2023.
- Angus MacDonell has the speed, burst, explosion, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, stick handling, and offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Angus MacDonell can finish his OHL career. He will be a first or second line center on the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. I gave Carolina a center in the second and fourth rounds, so basically MacDonnell would have to outperform Carolina's second and fourth round picks to get an opportunity on the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL.
Ottawa Senators: Tuomas Uronen, RW, Helsingfors IFK (SM Liiga)
- The 6-0 187 lb Tuomas Uronen had 20 goals, 23 assists, and 43 with the Helsingfors IFK Under 20 Team in 2022-2023. Tuomas Uronen had 0 goals, 0 assists, and 0 points in 5 Liiga games with Helsingfors IFK in 2022-2023. Tuomas Uronen will be on Helsingfors IFK in Liiga in the final year of his cotract in Finland, but also has a one year option he can exercise if an NHL team doesn't want to sign the Finnish winger.
- Tuomas Uronen has the playmaking, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, stick handling, and offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Tuomas Uronen has to fix his skating and get stronger. You also want to see him dominate in Liiga once known as SM Liiga which is the top professional hockey league in Finland.
Buffalo Sabres: Mazden Leslie, D, Vancouver Giants (WHL)
- The 6-0 193 lb Mazden Leslie was drafted tenth overall in the 2020 WHL Draft. Mazden Leslie was a player that impressed me in Bantam hockey and this guy has a third or fourth round grade on some boards. He fell to the end of the top half in the fifth round due to how deep the draft class is as a whole.
- Mazden Leslie had 5 goals, 0 assists, 5 points, and a -5 +/- ratio in 17 games in 2020-2021. Mazden Leslie had 5 goals, 14 assists, 19 points, and a -22 +/- ratio in 64 WHL games in 2021-2022. Mazden Leslie had 2 goals, 1 assist, and 3 points in the 2022 WHL Playoffs. Mazden Leslie had 12 goals, 38 assists, 50 points, and a -1 +/- ratio in 66 WHL games in 2022-2023. Mazden Leslie had 0 goals, 2 assists, and 2 points in 4 games in the 2023 WHL Playoffs.
- Mazden Leslie has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, stick handling, hands, offensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Mazden Leslie was a defenseman that checked every box heading into the 2020 WHL Draft. He checks off every box except for defensive awareness heading into the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He can stay in Vancouver for two more years, fix his defensive awareness, and then develop on the Rochester Americans in the AHL starting in 2025. Mazden Leslie could be on the Buffalo Sabres by 2028 if he signs his entry level contract.
Pittsburgh Penguins: Thomas Milic, G, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
- There were six players to make the CHL First All Star Team. Those six players were Regina Pats center Connor Bedard whose projected to go first overall, Halifax Mooseheads right winger Jordan Dumais the Columbus Blue Jackets 2022 third round pick, Kamloops Blazers center Logan Stankoven the Dallas Stars 2021 second round pick, Barrie Colts defenseman Brandt Clark who was also the Barrie Colts team captain as well as the Los Angeles Kings 2021 first round pick, Everett Silvertips defenseman Owen Zellweger the Anaheim Ducks 2021 second round pick, and Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Thomas Milic who is the only player in this group of six outside of Connor Bedard eligible for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft after winning WHL goalie of the year in 2022-2023.
- The Seattle Thunderbirds have two goalies in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Scott Ratzlaff a consensus third round pick who got invited to the 2023 NHL Combine. The other goalie is veteran Thomas Milic who started for the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2023 Memorial Cup. Milic can go straight to the AHL as a 20-year-old now that his time in the CHL is up after Thomas Milic went undrafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
- The 6-0 173 Thomas Milic lb had a 2.44 goals against average, a 0.912 save percentage, 113 goals allowed, and a 27-16-4 record in all 47 regular season starts with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 2021-2022. Thomas Milic ha a 2.08 goals against average, a .928 save percentage, 68 goals allowed, and a 27-3-2 record in 32 starts while playing 33 games. Thomas Milic had a 1.95 goals against average and a .933 save percentage when the Seattle Thunderbirds went 16-3 through the 2023 WHL Playoffs. Thomas Milic also started at goalie for the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2023 Memorial Cup starting five games getting the Thunderbirds to the Championship game.
- Style, Post Integration, Glove, Blocker Pad, Reading The Puck By Tracking, Rebound Control, Post Save Recovery, Quickness, Footwork, and Puckhandling. Those are ten different categories that NHL Draft Scouts use to evaluate goalies. Scott Ratzlaff checks eight of these ten boxes. Thomas Milic has the style, glove, reading the puck by tracking, rebound control, poost save recovery, quickness, and puckhandling you want. He checks off 8/10 boxes like Scott Ratzlaff too, but has to fix his post integration and improve his ability to make saves with his blocker pad.
- Thomas Milic will go straight to the AHL and will need two years of experience in the AHL with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins as a starter before he's brought up to the NHL. At this point Thomas Milic is essentially a plan B if Joel Blomqvist your 2020 second round pick doesn't take the next step by starting more games with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins. If you draft Thomas Milic, you will have to sign him to an entry level contract right out of the gate.
Nashville Predators: Kaden Hammell, D, Everett Silvertips (WHL)
- Nashville goes for value and drafts another defenseman that can be groomed for the future. This feels like the third or fourth defenseman that I've mocked to the Nashville Predators. Kaden Hammell was the ninteenth overall pick in the 2020 WHL Draft.
- The 6-1 173 lb Kaden Hammell had 3 goals, 11 assists, 14 points, and a +8 +/- ratio in 57 WHL games in 2021-2022. Kaden Hammell had 0 goals, 1 assists, and 1 point in 17 games in the 2022 WHL Playoffs. Kaden Hammell had 8 goals, 18 assists, 36 points, and a +14 +/- ratio in 67 WHL games in 2022-2023. Kaden Hammell had 0 goals, 0 assists, and 0 points in 5 games during the 2023 WHL Playoffs.
Montreal Canadiens: Hunter Anderson, C, Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL)
- The 5-9 181 lb Hunter Anderson had 59 goals, 56 assists, and 115 points with Shattuck St. Mary's Under 18 Team in 2022-2023. He also had 1 goal, 0 assists, and 1 point in 3 USHL games with the Des Moines Buccaneers in 2022-2023. Hunter Anderson is going to Denver this Fall. Hunter Anderson is probably an AHL player on the Laval Rocket once he's done with Denver, but having over 100 points makes Anderson worth gambling on in the middle of the fifth round.
New Yok Islanders: Luke Mittelstadt, D, Minnesota
- The 5-11 185 lb Luke Mittelstadt has the skill set of a two way defender. He's is fundamentally sound as a two-way defender. He knows how to check and take up space despite being only 16-years-old. He's a great playmaker and quarterback on the power play as well. Madison has a future first round pick on their hands if Mittelstadt continues to grow and develop as a player. He accepted a scholarship to Minnesota. That's what I said about Luke Mittelstadt after he got drafted second overall in the 2019 USHL Draft.
- Luke Mittelstadt had 28 points prior to getting drafted by the Madison Capitals. He got promoted to team captain on Eden Prairie HS and is the younger brother of Casey Mittelstadt, the Buffalo Sabres 2017 first round pick.
- Luke Mittelstadt was drafted second overall in the 2019 USHL Draft by the Madison Capitols. Luke Mittelstadt had a career year with 19 goals, 36 assists, 55 points, and a +2 +/- ratio in 2021-2022. He also had 5 goals, 4 assists, and 9 points in 14 games during the 2022 USHL Playoffs.
- His play as a line 1 defenseman allowed the Madison Capitols to secure their first Eastern Conference Title in USHL history. Luke Mittelstadt can develop at Minnesota and if he does well there, he could be signed to an AHL deal, and perhaps even an NHL deal down the road.
- Luke Mittelstadt went undrafted in 2021, but got invited to the 2022 NHL Combine before going undrafted in 2022. I have to believe Luke Mittelstadt will get drafted in 2023 after helping the Minnesota Golden Gophers get to the Frozen Four.
- Luke Mittelstadt had 5 goals, 16 assists, 21 points, and a +22 +/- ratio in 38 NCAA games in 2022-2023. Luke Mittelstadt had 2 goals in Minnesota's 2023 Frozen Four win over Boston University as Mittelstadt scored twice on Chicago Blackhawks 2020 second round pick Drew Comesso.
- Luke Mittelstadt skating, foot speed, leadership, playmaking, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Luke Mittelstadt has two more seasons at Minnesota before you have to sign him to an entry level contract in the NHL.
Winnipeg Jets: Stephen Peck, G, Avon Old Farms HS (CT)
- Winnipeg has to draft a goalie at some point. Winnipeg Jets starting goalie Connor Hellebuyck stated he's not re-signing with the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck is an unrestricted Free Agent in 2024 after being the Winnipeg Jets 2012 fifth round pick.
- The 6-2 174 lb Stephen Peck started 10 games on the Yale Jr. Bulldogs Under 18 Team with a .900 save percentage in 2022-2023. Stephen Peck led the Avonworth Old Farms Winged Beavers High School team with a 1.26 goals against average, a .948 save percentage, and a 22-2-4 record earning the team MVP honors on Avonworth Old Farms High School in 2022-2023.
- Stephen Peck was so impressive multitasking with the Yale Jr. Bulldogs Under 18 Team and the Avonworth Old Farms Winged Beavers that the Bismark Bobcats in the North American Hockey League also known as the NAHL has already made Stephen Peck an offer at goalie for next season.
- If Winnipeg can hit on Stephen Peck with this 2023 fifth round pick the same way they hit with Connor Hellebuyck in 2012, the payoff could be big down the road. Hellebuyck was drafted in 2012, was the backup goalie by 2015, and the starting goalie by 2016. If Peck develops at the same rate as Hellebuyck he could be the Winnipeg Jets backup goalie by 2026 and their starting goalie by 2027.
Nashville Predators: Brady Stonehouse, RW, Ottawa 67's (OHL)
- The 5-9 183 lb Brady Stonehouse had 18 goals, 17 assists, 35 points, and a -10 +/- ratio in 68 OHL regular season games 2021-2022. Brady Stonehouse had 1 goal, 0 assists, and 1 point in 4 games during the 2022 OHL Playoffs. Brady Stonehouse had 37 goals, 20 assists, 57 points, and a +28 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Brady Stonehouse had 2 goals, 1 assist, and 3 points in the 2023 OHL Playoffs.
- Brady Stonehouse has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, passing, playmaking, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, stick handling, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Brady Stonehouse was eligible for the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but went undrafted due to only having one year of experience. Brady Stonehouse is a player that should warrant consideration here.
Seattle Kraken: Alexander Rykov, RW, Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
- The 6-0 176 lb Alexander Rykov had 4 goals, 7 assists, and 11 points in the VHL before getting promoted to Traktor Chelyabinsk in 2022-2023. Alexander Rykov had 0 goals, 0 assists, and 0 points in 6 KHL games in 2022-2023. Alexander Rykov is listed as a top 50 prospect on some big boards, so this is a massive steal in the fifth round.
Minnesota Wild: Ruslan Khazeyev, G, Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
- The 6-4 201 lb Ruslan Khazeyev had a 2,80 goals against average and .912 save percentage in 10 MHL starts in 2021-2022. Ruslan Khazeyev had 2.38 goals against average and .923 save percentage in 23 KHL starts.
- Minnesota is obviously going value over need here. Ruslan Khazeyev is still in the MHL. He hasn't played in the VHL or KHL yet. It's hard to say whether his ceiling is backup AHL goalie, starting AHL goalie, or backup NHL goalie. Minnesota spent a 2021 first round pick on Jesper Wallstedt and I expect him to be the starting goalie at some point. Ruslan Khazeyev could be the starting goalie of the Iowa Wild in the AHL or the backup to Wallstedt in the NHL like two to five years down the road more likely five years down the road.
Los Angeles Kings: Noa Vali, G, TPS (SM Liiga)
- The Los Angeles Kings have an abudance of goalies, but draft one more just to be safe here. Noa Vali is the top goalie available.
- The 6-0 154 lb Noa Vali had a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage in one start with the TPS Under 18 Team in 2022-2023. Noa Vali also had a 2.38 goals against average and a .912 save percentage with the TPS Under 20 Team in 2022-2023. Noa Vali had a 0.000 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage in 1 start on the TPS main roster in Liiga once known as SM Liiga.
- Noa Vali has potential to develop into the Los Angeles Kings goalie if he continues to improve in Liiga, but him getting an opportunity to start comes down to every other Kings prospect at goalie screwing up which seems like a longshot.
Winnipeg Jets: Albert Wickman, D, Farjestads BK (Elitserien)
- The 6-1 194 lb Albert Wickman had 2 goals, 10 assists, and 12 points with the Farjestads BK Under 20 Team in 2022-2023. Albert Wickman also played 11 games with Farjestads BK in the SHL once known as Elitserien. Albert Wickman is a defenseman that Winnipeg can draft and develop for the future.
New York Rangers: Atillio Biasca, C, Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)
- Atillio Biacsa was drafted fifth overall in the 2020 CHL Import Draft. He went undrafted in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but he was considered the top UDFA from 2022 that's eligible for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft according to The Hockey News.
- The 6-1 183 lb Attilio Biasca had 2 goals, 6 assists, and 8 points when he was eligible for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft in 2020-2021. Attilio Biasca had 11 goals, 3 assists, and 14 points when he was eligible for the 2022 NHL Entry Draft in 2021-2022. Attilio Biasca had 24 goals, 35 assists, 59 points, and a +19 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Attilio Biasca had 5 goals, 5 assists, and 10 points in 19 games during the 2023 QMJHL Playoffs. Halifax got to the final round of the 2023 QMJHL Playoffs where they lost to the eventual 2023 Memorial Cup Champion Quebec Remparts.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Hudson Malinoski, C, Brooks Bandits (AJHL)
- The 6-0 175 lb Hudson Malinoski had 16 goals, 53 assists, and 69 points with the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL in 2022-2023. Hudson Malinoski only had 3 goals, 4 assists, and 7 points in 15 games during the 2023 AJHL Playoffs.
New Jersey Devils: Charles Alexis-Legault, D, Quinnipiac
- The 6-3 208 lb Charles Alexis-Legault had 2 goals, 7 assists, 9 points, and +9 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Charles Alexis-Legault played a big role in helpng Quinnipiac upset the Minnesota Golden Gophers to win the 2023 Men's Hockey National Championship. Quinnipiac defeated Michigan to get to the title game while Minnesota defeated Boston University.
Colorado Avalanche: Kocha Delic, C, Sudbury Wolves (OHL)
- The 5-10 183 lb Kocha Delic had 17 goals, 29 assists, 46 points, and a +6 +/- ratio in 65 OHL games in 2021-2022. Kocha Delic had 22 goals, 30 assists, 52 points, and a +19 +/- ratio in 45 OHL games in 2022-2023. Kocha Delic had 1 goal, 1 assist, and 2 points in 4 games during the 2023 OHL Playoffs.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Rodwin Dionicio, D, Windsor Spitfires (OHL)
- The 6-2 205 lb Rodwin Dionicio was drafted eighteenth overall in the 2021 CHL Import Draft in the first round. Rodwin Dionicio went undrafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
- Rodwin Dionicio had 15 goals, 35 assists, 50 points, and a +5 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Rodwin Dionicio had 1 goal, 0 assists, and 1 point in 2 games during the 2023 OHL Playoffs. Columbus can gamble on Rodwin Dionicio knowing they are probably getting an AHL player on the Cleveland Monsters, but could potentially get a third line defenseman on the Columbus Blue Jackets down the road if Rodwin Dionicio continues to work on his craft.
Dallas Stars: Yegor Sidorov, RW, Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
- Yegor Sidorov was drafted twentieth overall by the Saskatoon Blades in the CHL Import Draft. Yegor Sidorov is from Belarus, but has the versatility to play both right winger and left winger with right wing being his main position.
- The 6-0 182 lb Yegor Sidorov had 23 goals, 12 assists, 35 points, and a -2 +/- ratio in 2021-2022. Yegor Sidorov had 1 goal, 2 assists, and 3 points in 5 games with the Saskatoon Blades during the 2022 WHL Playoffs. Yegor Sidorov had 40 goals, 36 assists, 76 points, +25 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Yegor Sidorov had 9 goals, 10 assists, and 19 points in 16 games during the 2023 WHL Playoffs.
- Yegor Sidorov had 4 career hat tricks over the past two years in the WHL. That's the second most hat tricks among any player in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft trailing only Connor Bedard the top pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft who had 9 hat tricks. It's also worth pointing out that Bedard had hat tricks in game 1 and game 6 of the opening round series where the Saskatoon Blades Sidorov's WHL team edged out the Regina Pats Bedard's WHL team in 7 gamees.
- Yegor Sidorov has the skating, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, stick handling, puck control, ability to create space, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Yegor Sidorov turned 19 ten days prior to the 2023 NHL Entry Draft on June 18, 2023 and still doesn't wow you with a lack of game breaking speed and explosion despite being a proficient skater with smooth strides.
- However he's probably the best sniper that the Dallas Stars can realistically land in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and he's worth gambling on at this point in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The thing is Dallas would have to sign Yegor Sidorov to an entry level deal by 2024 since he's heading into his final WHL season. He can get stronger and continue to develop with the Texas Stars in the AHL until he's proven himself starting in 2024.

Florida Panthers: Beau Jelsma, C, Barrie Colts (OHL)
- The Florida Panthers draft a center here. Beau Jelsma played for the Barrie Colts which is the same OHL team that Aaron Ekblad played on. Florida gets a center prospect with Jordan Staal set to be an unrestricted Free Agent. Beau Jelsma went undrafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but could be drafted in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
- The 5-9 174 lb Beau Jelsma had 27 goals, 20 assists, 47 points, and a +12 +/- ratio in 68 OHL games 2021-2022. Beau Jelsma had 0 goals, 0 assists, and 0 points in the 2022 OHL Playoffs. Beau Jelsma had 31 goals, 30 assists, 61 points, and a +12 +/- ratio in 2022-2023. Beau Jelsma had 5 goals, 6 assists, and 11 points in 9 games during the 2023 OHL Playoffs.
- Beau Jelsma doesn't have an elite trait, but he's great at forechecking and backchecking. He's got a great work ethic and is just good enough to develop into a viable replacement for Eric Staal as the Florida Panthers fourth line center down the road.
Arizona Coyotes: William Proos, LW, Almtuna IS (Allsvenskan)
- Arizona gets a fourth line left winger here. William Proos went undrafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He has the size and physicality to develop into a fourth line left winger in the AHL. At the very worst he's a top six left winger on the Tuscon Roadrunners in the AHL.
- The 6-3 192 lb Willam Proos had 6 goals, 1 assist, and 7 points against men in Allvenskan. He's got ideal size and strength to protect the puck. He knows how to use his strength.
