2025 MLB Mock Draft: Final Mock 2 Rounds

Round 1 Picks 28-43

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: July 13, 2025.

  1. Kansas City Royals: Marek Houston, 3B, Wake Forest

Kansas City got a second first round pick due to Bobby Witt Jr. finishing in the top 3 in MVP voting. Kansas City drafts a third baseman with Maikel Garcia set to be a UFA in 2029 once his arbitration years with the Kansas City Royals are up. Marek Houston played shortstop for most of the last three years at Wake Forest, but he did play three games as a third baseman for Wake Forest this past season. If a team like the Kansas City Royals drafts the Wake forest shorstop, he will probably move to third baseman once he gets to the big leagues because Bobby Witt Jr. is under contract with the Kansas City Royals until 2038 after being drafted second overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 2019 MLB Draft.

The 6-3 185 lb Marek Houston had a .326 batting average, 72 hits, 39 RBI's, 8 home runs, and 16 doubles in 2024. Marek Houston had a .354 batting average, 61 runs, 86 hits, 15 home runs, 14 doubles, 19 stolen bases on 21 stolen base attempts, and a .947 fielding percentage in 2025. Marek Houston managed to win the starting shortstop job on Wake Forest as a true freshman in 2023 and kept it for three years while playing 3 games at third baseman in 2025 where he had a fielding percentage of 1.000 in those three games. He's considered a consensus top 15 player, so getting him at 28 as insurance to to Maikel Garcia makes a ton of sense for the Kansas City Royals.

Previous Pick: Nick Dumesnil, RF, California Baptist

  2. Arizona Diamondbacks: Slater de Brun, CF, Summit HS (OR)

The 5-9 180 lb Slater de Brun improved his batting average from .479 as a junior in 2024 to .500 in 2025. He gets on base consistently and ran a 6.39 60 yard dash. He hits to get on base versus hitting with power. Arizona is a team that is rumored to be interested in drafting Slater de Brun, and I can see why the Diamondbacks would want to pair him with Corbin Caroll in their outfield.

Previous Pick: Ryan Prager, P, Texas A&M

  3. Baltimore Orioles: Cam Cannarella, CF, Clemson

Baltimore drafts a center fielder with Cedric Mullins set to be a UFA after this sesaon. Clemson center fielder Cam Cannarella is a perfect fit for Baltimore in the sandwich portion of the first round after entering the year as a top 10 prospect.

    The 6-0 185 lb Cam Cannarella had a .388 batting average, 97 hits, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs, 47 RBI's, a .560 slugging percentage, a .993 fielding percentage, and 24 stolen bases as a freshman center fielder on Clemson in 2023. Cam Cannarella had a .337 batting average, 83 hits, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 11 home runs, 60 RBI's, a .561 slugging percentage, and a .979 fielding percentage, as a sophomore in 2024. Cam Cannarella had a .353 batting average, 62 rus, 82 hits, 22 doubles, 2 doubles, 6 home runs, 51 RBI's, a .530 slugging percentage, and a .978 fielding percentage as a junior in 2025.

Previous Pick: Marek Houston, 3B, Wake Forest

  4. Baltimore Orioles: Xavier Neyens, 3B, Mount Vernon HS (WA)
The 6-4 200 lb Xavier Neyens had a .455 batting average and participated in the 2024 High School Home Run Derby during the 2024 MLB All Star game as a junior after winning the Gatorade High School Player Of The Year in the State of Washington as a junior. Xavier Neyens only posted a .414 batting average and only hit 3 home runs as a senior as he couldn't win Gatorade High School Player Of The Year for a second year in a row. He can hit home runs, line drives, grounders, and bunts. He's one High School batter left in this later part of the first round that could end up developing into a five tool bat in the MLB, but he's also such a big project that you are betting on his traits and tools if you take him.

Previous Pick: Brian Curley, P, Georgia

  5. Milwaukee Brewers: Charles Davalan, LF, Arkansas

Milwaukee drafts another outifelder that would play in the minor leagues for the duration of this decade with Milwaukee's outfielders locked up until 2030. One outfielder the Brewers reportedly like is Arkansas left fielder Charles Davalan who can also play center fielder and second baseman.

The 5-9 180 lb Charles Davalan had a .288 batting average, 66 runs, 64 hits, 114 total bases, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 10 hom eruns, 37 RBI's, 13 stolen bases, a .413 on base percentage, a .514 slugging percentage, and a .960 fielding percentage at Florida Gulf Coast as a freshman in 2023. Charles Davian transferred to Arkansas this year and had a .346 batting average, 71 runs, 93 hits, 151 total bases, 12 doules, 2 triples, 14 home runs, 60 RBI's, 35 walks, 10 stolen bases, a .433 on base percentage, a .561 slugging percentage, and a 1.000 fielding percentage as a sophomore on the Arkansas team that made the final 3 in the 2025 College World Series in 2025.

Previous Pick: Sean Gamble, SS, IMG Academy HS (FL)

  6. Boston Red Sox: Kayson Cunningham, SS, Johnson HS (TX)

Boston drafts another shortstop to potentially replace Trevor Story with Marcelo Mayer making the transition to third baseman. Kayson Cunningham is a steal at this point in the first round.

The 5-9 170 lb Kayson Cunningham had a .445 batting average, 36 stolen bases, ran a 6.53 60-yard dash, and won Gatorade High School Player Of The Year in the state of Texas as a junior in 2024. Kayson Cunningham managed to improve his batting average to .509 with 6 home runs, 23 hits, 39 runs, 27 RBI's, and 21 stolen bases on 25 attempts successfully stealing bases 84 percent of the time winning Gatorade High School Player Of The Year for the second year in a row as a senior in 2025. Kayson Cunningham entered the year as the top High School shortstop not named Ethan Holliday in the 2025 MLB Draft, but failing to hit with power while other High School shortstops emerge.

Despite dropping in this mock draft, Kayson Cunningham did showcase his consistency in terms of getting on base and stealing bases. He also had a 4.37 GPA.

Previous Pick: Mario Pesca, P, Oklahoma State

  7. Detroit Tigers: JB Middleton, P, Southern Mississippi

Detroit is looking at two college pitchers with their first selection in the first round. Both pitchers that the Tigers are looking at fell to Detroit in this mock draft, so the Detroit Tigers double up at pitcher getting two potential future starters when some of their core players have expiring contracts. JB Middleton was the number one starting pitcher on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.

The 6-0 178 lb JB Middleton went 10-1 with a 2.31 ERA, and 122 strikeouts in 105 1/3 innings pitched. He was sixth in strikeouts, tenth in ERA, and eleventh in wins this past season as the number one starter on Southern Mississippi. Middleton reminds me a lot of Gavin Williams coming out of East Carolina in the 2021 MLB Draft except he's not as big or as tall as Williams was despite having a similar pitching form.

JB Middleton has a 95 mile per hour 4-seam fastball, a 93 mile per hour 2-seam fastball, a 86 mile per hour slider, a 88 mile per hour cutter fastball, and a 87 mile per hour changeup. Middleton has a good variety of pitches as well as experience as both a starter and a relief pitcher.

Previous Pick: Trent Caraway, 3B, Oregon State

  8. Seattle Mariners: Brady Ebel, 3B, Corona HS (CA)

Seattle gets a third baseman for their prospect pool. Brady Ebel is a third baseman that a team can stash and develop in their prospect pool.

The 6-3 190 lb Brady Ebel had a .259 batting average, 21 runs, 21 hits, 10 RBI's, 7 doubles, and a .947 fielding percentage in 2024. Brady Ebel had a .367 batting average, 29 hits, 17 RBI's, 9 doubles, 2 home runs, and a .950 fielding percentage in 2025. He entered the year as the twenty fifth best player in the 2025 MLB Draft with his father Dino Ebel being the Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach.

Previous Pick: Ethan Conrad, LF, Wake Forest

  9. Minnesota Twins: Angel Cervantes, P, Warren HS (CA)

The 6-3 195 lb Angel Cervantes had 55 strikeouts and a 2.96 ERA in 48 2/3 innings pitched as a junior in 2024. Angel Cervantes went 7-3 in 66 2/3 innings with a 1.59 ERA 106 strikeouts, 4 complete games, and was the Gateway League Pitcher Of The Year as a senior in 2025.

Angel Cervantes has a 93 mile per hour 4-seam fastball, a changeup described as a bugs bunny changeup which is his best pitch, and a slider. He developed a curveball over the summer in 2024 which became his best pitch in 2025. Angel Cervantes can develop into either a future starter or long reliever on the Minnesota Twins.

Previous Pick: Carter Gaston, P, Portland

  10. Baltimore Orioles: Jacob Morrison, P, Coastal Carolina

Baltimore got this pick from the Tampa Bay Rays three days before the draft by traing a reliever to the Rays. Baltimore goes for a college pitcher here since there are only two college pitchers left with respectable ERA's that are number one starters on their teams.

The 6-8 245 lb Jacob Morrison went 12-1 with a 2.45 ERA, and 104 strikeouts as a sophomore redshirt in 2025. He redshirted in 2023 and missed 2024 with Tommy John Surgery. Jacob Morrison was 12-0 before losing to LSU in the Championship match of the 2025 College World Series.

Jacob Morrison has a 95 mile per hour 4-seam fastball, a 93 mile per hour 2-seam fastball, a 85 mile per hour slider, a 75 mile per hour curveball, an a 82 mile per hour changeup. Jacob Morrison's floor is a number five starter and his ceiling is a number one starter in the MLB.

Previous Pick: Dean Curley, SS, Tennessee

The New York Mets have a good batting lineup. New Yor Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor bats first, Francisco Lindor had 33 home runs, 29 stolen bases, and is not a UFA until 2032. New York Mets right fielder Juan Soto bats second, Juan Soto hit 41 home runs, 109RBI's, and 166 hits in 2024. New York Mets number one starter Sean Manaea is not a UFA until 2028. The New York Mets number two starting pitcher is Kodai Senga from Japan and who posted a 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts pitching 166.1 innings in 29 starts with the New York Mets after Senga left Japan to sign with the New York Mets in 2023. I believe Rodon's ERA will go down with him being used as a number three starter instead since that was the role he excelled in the most early in his career with the Chicago White Sox as Carlos Rodon is not a UFA until 2029. The New York Yankees can upgrade at first baseman, center fielder, left fielder, third baseman, and starting pitcher. The New York Yankees are looking at college pitchers. There's only one college pitcher with an ERA of under 3.00 that was a Friday Night Starter. That pitcher is Michigan State pitcher Joseph Dzierwa.

The 6-7 180 lb Joseph Dzierwa had an 8-3 record with a 2.36 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 91 2/3 innings pitched in 2025. Los Angeles Dodgers number five starter Clayton Kershaw signed a one year deal to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Los Angeles Dodgers also have Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May to fill in for Kershaw if Kershaw isn't back right away, but those two will probably move to long reliever roles in the bullpen once Kershaw returns.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the batters, starting pitchers, and bullpen to be competititve in 2025. One player the Los Angeles Dodgers are much higher than the consensus is Mason Ligenza the top High School batter in the state of Pennsylvania in 2025.

The 6-6 210 lb Mason Ligenza had a .424 batting average, 90 runs, 81 hits, 4 doubles, 11 home runs, 47 RBI's, a .667 slugging percentage, 43 walks, 24 stolen bases, a .555 on base percentage, and a .970 fielding percentage in 2025. Previous Pick: Nolan Schubart, LF, Oklahoma State

  14. Los Angeles Dodgers: Josh Hammond, 3B, Wesleyan Christian Academy HS (NC)

The Los Angeles Dodgers draft a batter for the future with this pick from the Cincinnati Reds at 41. Josh Hammond is the best player available at this point in the first round ranking 26th on MLB's draft rankings. Josh Hammond had a .300 or better each year at Wesleyan Christian Academy dating back to eighth grade when he played 13 games at third baseman before becoming the teams starting third baseman in his freshman season of High School. He was used as a pinch runner in one game when he was in seventh grade too, so this guy has six years of experience at the Wesleyan Christian Academy.

The 6-1 194 lb Josh Hammond had a .471 batting average, 41 runs, 40 hits, 28 RBI's, 11 doubles, 3 triples, and 6 home runs in 2025. Josh Hammond hit 25 career home runs in five seasons with Wesleyan Christian Academy, but never had more than 7 home runs in each of those five seasons.

Previous Pick: Eddie Smink, P, Stony Brook

  15. Tampa Bay Rays: Sean Gamble, SS, IMG Academy HS (FL)

The 6-1 185 lb Sean Gamble is the best player available as he was a late first round prospect in February that moved all the way up to 27 in MLB's final rankings leading up to the 2025 MLB Draft. Sean Gamble posted a .333 batting average and 1 home run in 2024. Sean Gamble posted a .413 batting average, 29 runs, 31 hits, 30 RBI's, 8 doubles, 6 triples, 4 home runs, 12 stolen bases, and a .987 fielding percentage in 2025.

Sean Gamble can play shortstop, second baseman, or outfield with his versatility. He finally imrpoved his base stealing and defense. Tampa Bay needs to find a replacement to Wander Franco at shortstop and one guy they are rumored to be interested in is Sean Gamble.

Previous Pick: Brandon Compton, LF, Arizona State

  16. Miami Marlins: Max Belyeu, RF, Texas

The 6-2 210 lb Max Belyeu had a .300 batting average despite only starting four games at designated hitter while also posting a 1.000 fielding percentage as a freshman in 2023. Max Belyeu had a .329 batting average, 18 home runs, a .993 fielding percentage at right fielder, and won 2024 Big 12 Player Of The Year in the Texas Longhorns final Big 12 Season of College Baseball. Max Belyeu had a .303 batting average, 26 runs, 40 hits, 29 RBI's, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs, 4 stolen bases, and a .980 fielding percentage in 2025.

Max Belyeu regressed against SEC teams in 2025 after dominating Big 12 Teams in 2024. Max Belyeu has the versatility to play anywhere in the outfield at left fielder, center fielder, or right fielder. He's also got experience as a designated hitter.

Miami could use a right fielder upgrade. I mocked Max Belyeu to Miami at 9 in my February mock draft as Max Belyeu rounds out the first round.

Previous Pick: Henry Godbout, 2B, Virginia
