Will Keleher's 2015 NFL Mock Draft

Round 1 Picks 17-32

Posted By Will Keleher Last Updated: March 27, 2015.

  1. San Diego Chargers: Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin

San Diego needs a running back. Melvin Gordon is one of the most complete running backs in recent years. It would not surprise me if he went in the top 16 and there is no way he gets past 17.

  2. Kansas City Chiefs: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State

Kansas City added Jeremy Maclin in Free Agency. A #2 receiver is still needed. Kansas City has spoken to two guys in Justin Hardy and Dorial Green-Beckham. Those guys are hasbands compared to the athletic deep threat in Devin Smith who led the Buckeyes to a Championship in the first ever College Football Playoff.

  3. Cleveland Browns: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA

Brett Hundley completed 14 passes in a row at the NFL Combine. He also completed 57 out of 60 passes at his Pro Day. Hundley had better accuracy than both Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

Hundley is too talented not to go in the first round. I know most experts have him as a second round pick, but someone will trade down to get Hundley or they will trade back into the first to get Hundley as a project with the demand at quarterback position.

Josh McCown sucks whoever decided he needs to stop working at Quiznos Subs needs to be fired from coaching altogether. Johnny Rehab won't function properly once the season starts. Cleveland is a perfect fit for Hundley because he can sit out a year while the Browns rebuild once again, and then in 2016 this team will be competitive with Hundley at quarterback. We said the same thing about Manziel last year before Josh Gordon got busted, oh the irony.

  4. Philadelphia Eagles: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State

P.J. Williams is the top ranked corner based on the tape I've seen of him. Imagine how good this secondary can be with Williams as a field corner, Byron Maxwell in the boundary, Walter Thurmond as a nickel corner, and Brandon Boykin in the dime. That's a secondary that forces other NFC East quarterbacks to hand it off or throw to the tight ends.

  5. Cincinnati Bengals: Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon

Arik Armstead is the top defensive end at this point. Taking Armstead and letting him learn behind Michael Johnson at right end and Carlos Dunlap at left end might not be a bad direction to go in when you consider that Armstead is 3-4 defensive end/4-3 defensive tackle

  6. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest

I loved Kevin Johnson's tape as well. It's pretty easy to see why Chris had Johnson as his #2 corner in the draft a couple of weeks ago.

With Ike Taylor gone, Pittsburgh needs a #1 field corner. They take one here in Kevin Johnson.

  7. Detroit Lions: Malcolm Brown, NT, Texas

Detroit lost Fairley and Suh. Detroit is also moving to a 3-4 defense where Brown might thrive at nose tackle.

  8. Arizona Cardinals: Bernardrick McKinney, 3-4 MLB, Mississippi State

Chris Ransom was right when he said McKinney was a 4-3 only middle linebacker. At the same time, Arizona was stupid enough to take a 4-3 outside linebacker in Sean Weatherspoon and move him to a 3-4 inside linebacker role.

McKinney and Weatherspoon at 3-4 middle linebacker is not the direction Arizona should go in, but I think it's the direction they will go in.

  9. Carolina Panthers: Andrus Peat, LT, Stanford

Carolina needs a left tackle. Michael Oher, the blindside is a right tackle at best.

Obtaining Andrus Peat is such a bargain at this point. If Carolina passes on Peat, Cam Newton has every right to demand a trade from the Panthers kind of like what Jay Cutler did a few years ago.

  10. Baltimore Ravens: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

The Ravens had issues at cornerback last season with injuries to both LaDarius Webb early in the season and then Jimmy Smith later in the year. Trae Waynes would be an upgrade over both players at field corner if he slipped this far.

  11. Dallas Cowboys: Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State

Michael Bennett is the pick here. With Leonard Williams, Danny Shelton, Eddie Goldman, Arik Amstead, and Malcolm Brown all gone, the top defensive tackle at this point has to be Michael Bennett.

  12. Denver Broncos: Cameron Erving, C, Florida State

Cameron Erving has the versatility to play anywhere on the offensive line at left tackle, left guard, center, right guard, or right tackle. Denver needs upgrades at left guard and center. Moving Louis Vasquez from right guard to right tackle cannot be allowed under any circumstance even if it means rotating Erving over to offensive tackle if Chris Clark gets injured in 2015.

  13. Indianapolis Colts: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

I realize the Colts have Frank Gore and Daniel "Boom" Herron. At the same time, Gore is a short term plan. Imagine what Gurley could become if he recovered from his injury and went to the right team where he could gradually develop like the Indianapolis Colts.

  14. Green Bay Packers: Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma

Jordan Phillips is 6-6 332 lbs. I don't know how you can pass on him if he slips to the 30th pick here in round 1. You lost B.J. Raji and now need a new nose tackle.

  15. New Orleans Saints: La'El Collins, LG, LSU

New Orleans dealt left guard Ben Grubbs to the Chiefs for a fifth round pick. Collins makes too much sense for the Saints if he falls to 31 because he could fill the void at left guard that Grubbs left.

  16. New England Patriots: Devin Funchess, TE, Michigan

New England takes the top tight end in this draft. Funchess ran a 4.43 40 at his Pro Day plus he has a 41 inch vertical at 6-5 230 lbs. I realize you have Gronkowski, Wright, and free agent Scott Chandler. New England will find something for Funchess as the Patriots have the luxury of going best available player.
