Pelicans News NBA: The New Orleans Pelicans finished the year 34-48.

New Orleans Pelicans 2017 Season Preview

Anthony Davis is the Pelicans best player. He needs a better supporting cast before the Pelicans can make a run in the Western Conference.

Anthony Davis is the undisputed leader of the New Orleans Pelicans. The New Orleans Hornets drafted Davis #1 overall out of Kentucky when he won a championship. Same could be said for teammate Marcus Kidd-Gilchrist who went to the Charlotte Bobcats. Now both Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist enter year 4 with Davis on the Pelicans and Kidd-Gilchrist now on the Charlotte Hornets.

Davis did an excellent job demonstrating outstanding leadership traits while communicating with his teammates after posting 20.8 points per game in 2013-2014. Davis averaged 24.4 points per game and got the biggest contract in NBA History when he received a 6-year $145-million dollar deal. Koby Bryant got $136-million back in 2004 so the fact that Davis is making almost 10-million more than Bryant.

Jrue Holliday posted 14.8 points per game at point guard. Shooting guard Eric Gordon averaged 13.4 points per game. Having guards this good eases things for Davis who continues to dominate.

Small forward Tyreke Evans posted 14.5 points per game and 5 assists per game in 2013-2014. Evans posted 16.8 points per game in 2014-2015.

New Orleans still has one big weakness at center. Once the Pelicans correct this they will be able to contend for a Championship. The Pelicans will be in the hunt for the 8 seed once again, but this time I think they fall one spot shy of a playoff berth.
