Branding Hockey In The States

Sometimes it is hard to decide if the NHL is a niche market or not. Other sports appeal to the masses but Hockey seems to have loyal fans that have loved the sport for years. The NHL should really attempt to publicize the sport and brand it on America’s youth. When was the last time you saw a commercial for the NHL on a major television Chanel? It is unfortunate. The major leagues right now are adding tons of money into marketing efforts and glorifying their athletes. America needs a superstar liaison from the NHL to America’s fans. With added superstars and dramatizing rivalries on the media, could really entice young athletes to pick up a stick and puck. Do you think the NHL should draw up the marketing efforts or is it the beauty of the NHL not the Hollywood headlines and drama?
