2022 NBA Mock Draft: Final Mock 2 Rounds

Round 2

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: June 23, 2022.

  1. Indiana Pacers: Patrick Baldwin Jr., PF, Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Indiana kicks off the second round with a player who can replace T.J. Warren at small forward or Domatas Sabonis at power forward. Patrick Baldwin Jr. is a player I have a late first round grade on.

The 6-9 220 lb Patrick Baldwin Jr. is versatile enough to play shooting guard, small forward, or power forward with his versatility. Patrick Baldwin Jr. is the most versatile prospect in the 2022 NBA Draft with the versatility to play three different positions, but he struggled defensively against Paolo Banchero in High School.

Patrick Baldwin Jr. has potential if he can stay healthy since he was a top 5 recruit in High School at one point choosing Wisconsin-Milwaukee over Duke. Wes Langley compared him to Michael Porter Jr. the former Missouri forward that had durability concerns coming out of Missouri despite his history with injuries.

Patrick Baldwin Jr. averaged 12.1 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game. Patrick Baldwin Jr.'s career high 26 points came against Robert Morris. He opened up the season averaging 11 rebounds per game in his first two games, but peaked after that. His career high 4 assists came against Eastern Kentucky in one of the two games where Patrick Baldwin Jr. had 11 rebounds.

Patrick Baldwin Jr. is a risky pick, but if he pans out he could end up being a great starter if he regains his dominant form before his first left ankle injury during his senior year of High School.

Previous Pick: Jalen Williams, SF, Santa Clara

  2. Orlando Magic: Trevor Keels, SG, Duke

Orlando's biggest need may be finding a backup small forward, but Orlando goes for value by getting the best overall player on the board in Trevor Keels who would address a need at backup shooting guard with Gary Harris set to be an unrestricted Free Agent in 2022.

The 6-4 221 lb Trevor Keels is someone that Memphis can gamble on at 29. Trevor Keels averaged 11.5 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, a 41.9% field goal percentage, 31.2% three point percentage, a 67% free throw percentage, and 1.2 steals per game in 2021-2022 as a true freshman at Duke. Trevor Keels had a career high 27 points against Pittsburgh, a career high 11 rebounds against Clemson, and a career 8 assists against Florida State.

Trevor Keels has the upside to develop into a starting shooting guard if he can put everything together, but that's a big if. He does come with some concerns about being a bust since he was benched during the ACC Tournament. I love Duke as does Wes Langley, and Wes believes this guy belongs in the 15-20 range. I had him going to Memphis at 29 prior to the Christian Wood trade which sent the twenty sixth pick in the 2022 NBA Draft to the Houston Rockets. Keels might be good enough to start, but he's a great backup shooting guard to Jalen Suggs here.

  3. Toronto Raptors: Christian Koloko, C, Arizona

Toronto has Fred VanVleet at point guard, Gary Trent Jr. at shooting guard, OG Anunoby at small forward, Pascal Siakam at power forward, and 2021-2022 NBA Rookie Of The Year Scottie Barnes. A center to round out this starting five is still needed though.

The 7-1 230 lb Christian Koloko finally put everything together as a junior after two rocky seasons at Arizona. Christian Koloko averaged 12.6 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, 1.4 assists per game, a 63.5% field goal percentage, and a 73.5% free throw percentage as a junior in 2021-2022.

Christian Koloko had a career high 28 points in the Sweet 16, a career high 13 rebounds against Arizona State, and a career high 4 assists in two or three different contests. Christian Koloko scored over 10 points per game in 25 out of 37 games during his draft year, but he still needs to develop as a three point shooter which is why some may have a second round grade on Koloko.

Previous Pick: Kofi Cockburn, C, Illinois

  4. Oklahoma City Thunder: Dominick Barlow, PF, Overtime Elite

The 6-9 215 lb Dominick Barlow had 14.6 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game with Overtime Elite in 2021-2022. He complimented point guard Jean Montero on Overtime Elite.

Oklahoma City now has Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at point guard, Josh Giddey at shooting guard, Ousmane Dieng at small forward, Dominick Barlow at power forward, and Chet Holmgren at center.

Previous Pick: Ousmane Dieng, SF, New Zealand Breakers

  5. Los Angeles Lakers: Ismael Kamagate, C, Paris Basketball

The Los Angeles Lakers get someone to play center. This allows LeBron James to play small forward and Anthony Davis to play power forward.

The 6-11 220 lb Ismael Kamagate had 11.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Los Angeles drafts a center that I have a first round grade on at 35.

Previous Pick: Orlando Robinson, C, Fresno State

  6. Detroit Pistons: Trevion Williams, PF, Purdue

The 6-10 255 lb Trevion Williams only had 12 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game as a senior with his points per game and rebounds per game dropping from his junior season. He's averaged over 11 points per game in his past three seasons at Purdue. Detroit drafts Trevion Williams as a replacement to Jermai Grant after getting Jaden Ivey at 5.

  7. Sacramento Kings: MarJon Beauchamp, SG, Ignite (NBA G-League)

If Sacramento passes on Jaden Ivey at 4, then this second round pick would probably be used on a guard for depth. Blake Wesley is the only first round pick still on the board, so Sacramento get shim here in the second round.

The 6-6 199 lb MarJon Beauchamp averaged 15.1 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and 1.6 assists per game. He's a first round prospect on some draft boards making this a good value pick for the Sacramento Kings in the second round.

Previous Pick: Blake Wesley, SG, Notre Dame

  8. San Antonio Spurs: Jabari Walker, SF, Colorado

San Antonio gets a backup small forward for depth behind Keldon Johnson. Jabari Walker is someone who could end up getting minutes off the bench at small forward or power forward. He's a better fit at small forward though.

The 6-9 215 lb Jabari Walker is a deadly small forward. Jabari Walker led PAC 12 freshmen with 21.5 points per game and 12. rebounds per game in extended games that lasted over 40 minutes. He also had a career high 24 points against Georgetown in the 2021 March Madness Tournament win going 9/10 from field goal range on 2 point shots while going 3/5 on three point shots.

Back in October, I said this about Jabari Walker. Keep an eye on Jabari Walker because he's one guy who could come out of nowhere to surge into the top 10 like Ziare Williams did last season. Walker didn't do enough to crack the first round which is why he fell to the San Antonio Spurs at 38.

Jabari Walker averaged 14.6 points per game 7 more than his freshman season, 9.4 rebounds per game, 1.2 assists per game, a 46.1% field goal percentage, a 34.6% three point percentage, and a 78.4% free throw percentage.

Jabari Walker scored more points per game, but his field goal percentage and three point percentage declined. San Antonio can gamble on Jabari Walker here.

Previous Pick: David McCormack, C, Kansas

  9. Cleveland Cavaliers: Caleb Houstan, SF, Michigan

The 6-8 205 Caleb Houstan pronounced Houston goes to Cleveland as a small forward for depth. Caleb Houstan averaged 10.1 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, 1.4 assists per game, a 38.4% field goal percentage, a 355% three point percentage, and a 78.3% free throw percentage as a freshman with Michigan in 2021-2022.

  10. Minnesota Timberwolves: Justin Lewis, SF, Marquette

Minnesota grabs a starting small forward in the second round. Justin Lewis out of Marquette is versatile enough to play small forward or power forward.

The 6-7 245 lb Justin Lewis had 16.8 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists per game, a 44% field goal percentage, a 34.9% three point percentage, a 76.1% free throw percentage, and 1.1 steals per game in 2021-2022. Minnesota needs an immediate starter at small forward and Justin Lewis might fit the bill here.

Previous Pick: Jabari Walker, SF, Colorado

  11. New Orleans Pelicans: Michael Foster Jr., PF, Ignite (NBA G-League)

The 6-10 240 lb Michael Foster Jr. averaged 32 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 steals per game in High School. Michael Foster Jr. had 16.3 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game with Ignite in the NBA G-League in 2021-2022.

Michael Foster Jr. is a good insurance policy at power forward if Zion Williamson cannot stay healthy, or if he fails to sign a max contract this Summer.

Michael Foster Jr. would be a good bench player to learn under Zion Williamson at power forward. He can start when Zion is injured, but the top priority for the New Orleans Pelicans has to be securing Zion Williamson.

  12. New York Knicks: Kofi Cockburn, C, Illinois

New York needs a starting center, Kofi Cockburn makes a lot of sense here.

The 7-0 285 lb Kofi Cockburn specializes in three things. Scoring, rebounding, and blocking are the strongest parts of Kofi Cockburn's game as Kofi Cockburn averaged over 13 points per game in all three seasons at Illinois while averaging a minimum of 8 rebounds per game in all three seasons at Illinois while averaging 1 block a game each season.

Kofi Cockburn had 20.9 points per game, 10.6 rebunds per game, and 1 block per game as a junior at Illinois. His field goal percentage and free throw percentage both need to be more consistent. Kofi Cockburn is also a short and mid range shooter. He's not someone whose going to shoot three point shots, but he makes up for this with his defense. He can defend the 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

Kofi Cockburn gives New York a potential starter at center. If New York gets someone like A.J. Griffin at 11 then they'll take a center here.

Previous Pick: Justin Lewis, SF, Marquette

  13. Los Angeles Clippers: Orlando Robinson, C, Fresno State

The Los Angeles Clippers have Reggie Jackson at point guard, Paul George at shooting guard, Kawhi Leononard at small forward, Reggie Covington at power forward, and Ivica Zubac at center. The Clippers have starters everywhere with Leonard coming back from an injury next season.

The 7-0 235 lb Orlando Robinson averaged 12.2 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, and a career high 49.2% field goal percentage as a true freshman in 2019-2020. Orlando Robinson averaged 14.6 points per game and a career high 9.2 points per game as a true sophomore in 2020-2021.

Orlando Robinson averaged 19.4 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, a 48.4% field goal percentage, a 35.2% three point percentage, a 71.6% free throw percentage, 1.2 blocks per game, and 1 steal per game as a junior with Fresno State in 2021-2022. Orlando Robinson had a season high 34 points against Wyoming, a season high 18 rebounds against Long Island, and a season high 6 assists against Utah State.

Orlando Robinson is a better three point shooter than a lot of the centers in the 2022 NBA Draft. That's why someone will take a chance on him in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Previous Pick: MarJon Beauchamp, SG, Ignite (NBA G-League)

  14. Atlanta Hawks: Hugo Besson, PG, New Zealand Breakers

The Atlanta Hawks get their backup point guard to Trae Young in the second round. Hugo Besson is versatile enough to play point guard or shooting guard. He's the final piece the Atlanta Hawks need in order to be able to compete for a chance to win the Eastern Conference.

The 6-3 196 lb Hugo Besson averaged 13.9 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game. He led the New Zealand Breakers in points per game even though Ousmane Dieng is the highest projected draft pick on that team.

  15. Charlotte Hornets: Kendall Brown, SF, Baylor

The Charlotte Hornets may end up moving on from both small forward Gordon Heyward and small forward Miles Bridges if the Hornets want to move on from both the injury prone Heyward while applying a sign and trade to Miles Bridges. In that scenario, drafting a small forward for insurance with this second round pick becomes a possibility.

The 6-8 210 lb Kendall Brown averaged 14 points per game, 4 assists per game, and 3.5 rebounds per game as a high school senior. Kendall Brown committed to Baylor after they won the 2021 Men's College Basketball Championship.

Kendall Brown started on Baylor. He's got more upside than Jeremy Sochan. Both Baylor players scored under 10 points per game, yet both players are being mocked in the lottery range of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Kendall Brown is someone you can develop for the future. He's someone who can be a nice bench player for Charlotte.

  16. Portland Trail Blazers: David McCormack, C, Kansas

Portland gets a center here in case Nurkic doesn't come back. David McCormack may be a good fit here for POrtland.

David McCormack the starting center on the Kansas Jayhawks team that won the NCAA Mens Basketball Championship this year fits that bill. He's the best center available for Portland here.

The 6-10 250 lb David McCormack averaged 10.6 points per game and 7 rebounds per game in 2021-2022. He had a season high 22 points and a season high 15 rebounds this season.

Previous Pick: Jeremy Sochan, PF, Baylor

  17. Memphis Grizzlies: Andrew Nembhard, PG, Gonzaga

Memphis gets a backup point guard that can learn under Ja Morant. Andrew Nembhard took over at point guard for Jalen Suggs at Gonzaga in 2021-2022.

The 6-5 193 lb Andreew Nembhard averaged 11.8 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 5.8 assists per game, a 45.2% field goal percentage, a 38.3% three point percentage, a 87.3% free throw percentage, and 1.6 steals per game as a senior in 2021-2022.

  18. Minnesota Timberwolves: Karlo Matkovic, PF, Mega Bemax

Minnesota drafts a power forward for insurance behind Jeremy Sochan. The 6-10 220 lb Karlo Matkovic played with Nikola Jovic on Mega Bemax. Karlo Matkovic averaged 11.5 points per game overseas and would be a good International player to develop in case first round pick Patrick Baldwin Jr. cannot stay healthy.

Previous Pick: Vince Williams Jr., SF, Virginia Commonweath

  19. Cleveland Cavaliers: Makur Maker, C, Sydney Kings

Cleveland gets a center for depth behind Jarrett Allen. Sydney Kings center Makur Maker is the only draftable center left on the board.

The 6-11 230 lb Makur Maker was a five star recruit at center who committed to Howard. After withdrawing his name from the 2021 NBA Draft, Makur Maker went to the Sydney Kings in the NBL. Makur Maker would be a good backup to Jarrett Allen in Cleveland. He's an international player that Cleveland can stash and with last years first round pick Evan Mobley being versatilie enough to play both power forward and center, Makur Maker's minutes will be limited.

  20. Minnesota Timberwolves: Vince Williams Jr., SF, Virginia Commonweath

Minnesota grabs a second small forward in the second round in case they don't hit on Justin Lewis. Vince Williams Jr. out of Virginia Commonwealth is another player the team could add here.

The 6-6 205 lb Vince Williams Jr. averaged 14.1 points per game, 6 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, a 47.7% field goal percentage, a 38.7% three point percentage, a 81.4% free throw percentage, 1.6 steals per game, and 1.1 blocks per game in 2021-2022 as a senior at Virginia Commonwealth. He ended Virginia Commonwealth's season with a bang by getting a career high 27 points against Wake Forest in the second round of the 2022 NIT Tournament.

Previous Pick: Karlo Matkovic, PF, Mega Bemax

  21. Golden State Warriors: Isaiah Mobley, PF, USC

The 6-10 240 lb Isaiah Mobley is the younger brother of Cleveland Cavaliers top 5 draft pick Evan Mobley who got drafted third overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Isaiah Mobley played at USC which was where Evan played college too.

Isaiah Mobley averaged 14.2 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game, a 44.5% field goal percentage, a 35.2% three point percentage, and a 68.2% free throw percentage in 2021-2022. Isaiah Mobley is a good player for Golden State to groom behind Draymond Green at power forward.

  22. New Orleans Pelicans: Yannick Nzosa, C, Unicaja

The 6-11 200 lb Yannick Nzosa is an elite shot blocker with superb athleticism. In fact, after Chet Holmgren and Jalen Duren, he's the best shot blocker in this draft. Like those two he can defend against the 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. He can line up against anyone and defend effectively.

He went from being a preseason top 5 pick to a second round prospect who may go undrafted. New Orleans can groom him behind Jonas Valenciunas here.

  23. Boston Celtics: Bryce McGowens, SG, Nebraska

The Boston Celtics starting lineup consists of point guard Marcus Smart, shooting guard Jaylen Brown, small forward Jayson Tatum, power forward Robert Williams III, and center Al Horford. Boston's backups include Peyton Pritchard as the backup point guard, Derrick White as the backup shooting guard, Aaron Nesmith as the backup small forward, Grant Williams as the backup power forward, and Daniel Thies as the backup center. Boston just needs an extra body and really has the luxury to ignore need and take the best player on their board here.

The 6-7 179 lb Bryce McGowens is an early second round prospect that slipped way too far mainly due to the fact that this is such a deep shooting guard draft. Bryce McGownes averaged 16.8 points pger game, 5.2 rebounds per game, 1.4 assists per game, a 40.3% field goal percentage, a 27.4% three point percentage, and a 83.1% free throw percentage as a true freshman in 2021-2022.

  24. Washington Wizards: Iverson Molinar, PG, Mississippi State

The Washington Wizards finally get their starting point guard in the second round. Iverson Molinar is one of the hidden gems in the 2022 NBA Draft.

The 6-3 190 lb Iverson Molinar averaged 16.7 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, a 47.8% field goal percentage, a 43.6% three point percentage, and a 80.4% free throw percentag as a sophomore in 2020-2021. Iverson Moliar averaged 17.5 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists per game, a 45.4% field goal percentage, a 25.2% three point percentage, and a 86.8% free throw percentage as a junior in 2021-2022.

Worst case sceanrio, Iverson Moliar is your backup point guard. Best case scenario, he can start at point guard with Bradley Beal complimenting him at shooting guard.

  25. Golden State Warriors: Harrison Ingram, SF, Stanford

The 6-8 230 lb Harrison Ingram averaged 10.5 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, a 38.8% field goal percentage, a 31.3% three point percentage, and a 66.3% free throw percentage as a true freshman in 2021-2022. Sacramento gets Harrison Ingram for depth here late in teh second round.

  26. Cleveland Cavaliers: J.D. Davidson, PG, Alabama

Cleveland gets a backup for depth at point guard behind Darius Garland. He gives the Cavaliers a nice depth piece with their final draft pick.

The 6-3 195 lb J.D. Davidson can pass like a point guard. He can shoot from short range, mid range, and long range on film. He checked off a lot of boxes coming out of High School before struggling at Alabama as a freshman.

  27. Portland Trail Blazers: Peyton Watson, SF, UCLA

Portland gets their small forward. Peyton Watson is a nice value pick at 59.

The 6-8 200 lb Peyton Wilson played small forward in High School. The five star recruit from Long Beach California may move to shooting guard at UCLA playing for a UCLA team that made last years Final 4.

Portland takes the best player available at 59. Peyton Watson was a preseason first round prospect that didn't live up to expectations at UCLA.

  28. Indiana Pacers: Jamaree Bouyea, PG, San Francisco

Indiana gets a backup to Malcolm Brogdon here and a replacement if Brodgon is traded before or during the 2022 NBA Draft. Jamree Bouyea the starting point guard on the San Francisco Dons is Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NBA Draft.

The 6-2 180 lb Jamaree Bouyea averaged 17.3 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, 4 assists per game, a 47% field goal percentage, a 36.7% three point percentage, a 75.5% free throw percentage, and 1.8 steals per game as a senior with the San Francisco Dons. Jamaree Bouyea had a career high 36 points playing his heart out in San Francisco's 92-87 overtime loss to Murray State.
