2019 MLB Mock Draft: Final Mock Draft

Round 1 Picks 33-41

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: June 3, 2019.

  1. Arizona Diamondbacks: Drew Mendoza, 3B, Florida State

Arizona drafts for upside. The 6-5 225 lb Drew Mendoza doubled his home run total from 7 in 2018 to 14 in 2019.

Mendoza is someone Arizona can groom to replace Eduardo Escobar down the road. Arizona has another pick where they can obtain another premium talent for the future.

  2. Arizona Diamondbacks: Will Robertson, RF, Creighton

Arizona drafts for upside. The 6-1 210 lb Will Robertson has 11 home runs in 2019 despite only having a .299 batting average. Robertson gives Arizona a future outfielder that reminds me a lot of former Diamondback Luis Gonzalez when you watch his tape.

  3. Miami Marlins: Will Holland, SS, Auburn

The Miami Marlins draft a shortstop for the future here. The 5-10 181 lb Will Holland dominated in 2018 with a .313 batting average, 12 home runs, 18 doubles, and 15 RBI's. Holland has posted career lows in most categories in 2019 except for stolen bases where he posted a career high 14 stolen bases. Holland has the ability to be a 5-tool batter when he's healthy though. Holland was considered a preseason top 10 pick before his bad play in 2019.

  4. Tampa Bay Rays: Zach Watson, CF, LSU

The 6-0 160 lb Zach Watson has a batting average of above .300 for the third year in a row batting .315 in 2019. He also has a fielding percentage of 1.000 for the second year in a row. His defending and consistent batting make Watson a fringe first-round pick.

  5. Pittsburgh Pirates: Greg Jones, SS, UNC Wilmington

The Pittsburgh Pirates draft the 6-2 190 lb sophomore out of UNC Wilmington who is draft eligible despite being a sophomore. I feel Kevin Newman, the current utility batter is the future shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates. At the same time, Newman is already 25-years-old after being 21-years-old when being drafted by Pittsburgh. Jones is only 20-years-old and will be done developing in the minor leagues, if Pittsburgh cannot lock up Newman to a long-term deal.

  6. New York Yankees: Dominic Fletcher, CF, Arkansas

The Yankees get the top player on the board. The 5-9 175 lb Dominic Fletcher knows how to hit home runs consistently despite a horrible batting average as well as a season ending injury in 2019.

  7. Minnesota Twins: Ryan Zeferjahn, P, Kansas

The Twins get a future strikeout machine in Ryan Zeferjahn who is the final pitcher on the board in my top 50 overall. Zeferjahn has 107 strikeouts in 2019, but also has a 3.97 ERA. He has a lot of the same weaknesses that the West Virginia pitcher Alek Manoah has.

  8. Tampa Bay Rays: Jake Mangum, CF, Mississippi State

The Rays get another bat here. The 6-1 167 lb Jake Mangum has a .367 batting average in 2019. He only has 1 home run this season and that alarms me to a point.

  9. Texas Rangers: Nick Quintana, SS, Arizona

Texas drafts a shortstop to groom for the future. I had Nick Quintana as my thirty fifth best player available so obviously getting him at 41 to wrap up the first round is a huge steal for the Texas Rangers.
