Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: June 26, 2019.

  1. Kingston Frontenacs: Shane Wright, C, (2022) A+ Grade

The 6-0 183 lb Shane Wright got granted exceptional status to enter the OHL at 15-years-old much like other centers who went first overall such as John Tavares and Connor McDavid. Wright led the Don Mills Flyers to their first Midget Hockey Championship as a line 1 center.

His 31 goals, 41 assists, and 72 points in the GTMMHL stand out in 2018-2019. Wright also had 66 goals, 84 assists, and 150 points in Midget Hockey League. He also won the OHL Cup MVP Award prior to getting drafted first overall by the Kingston Frontenacs with 8 goals, 10 assists, and 18 points in 7 games during the OHL Cup.

Connor McDavid also won the award in 2012 before being drafted by the Erie Otters first overall in this exact situation that Wright is in. Like McDavid, Wright could be the line 1 center right out of the gate on day 1.

Despite being only 15, Wright has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Shane Wright is someone who will push for the top selection in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

  2. Flint Firebirds: Brennan Othmann, LW, (2021) A+ Grade

Brennan Othmann was the line 1 left winger on the Don Mills Flyers. Othmann shares the same birthday with line 1 center Shane Wright as both Othmann and Wright were born on January 5 with Othmann being a year older born in 2003 compared to Wright who was born in 2004.

The 5-11 161 lb Brennan Othmann had 66 goals, 80 assists, and 146 points in the GTMMHL. Othmann also had 8 goals, 6 assists, and 14 points in the OHL Cup with Shane Wright on the top line with him.

Despite being only 16, Othmann has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Brennan Othmann is someone who will push for the top selection in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Brennan Othmann has the talent to be a line 1 left winger next to line 1 center Ty Dellandrea who is the returning captain on the Flint Firebirds. OHL teams will have problems stopping both Othmann and Dellandrea this upcoming season.

  3. Erie Otters: Connor Lockhart, C, (2021) B Grade

The 5-7 161 lb Connor Lockhart had 30 goals, 49 assists, and 79 points in HEOMAAA with the Kanata Lasers. Lockhart has a strong work ethic. He will be a good player with the Erie Otters. The question is will he become a great player.

Despite being only 16, Lockhart has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Connor Lockhart could be a top 10 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, but I don't see him being a top 5 player in two years since he needs to work on his ability to win face offs, plus he's smaller then I thought.

He's got skill. Unfortunately, he does not seem like someone who will provide the production that Connor McDavid or Dylan Strome brought to the Erie Otters.

  4. Barrie Colts: Brandt Clarke, D, (2021) A+ Grade

The 6-1 174 lb Brandt Clarke was a line 1 defender on the Don Mills Flyers as well as the defenseman who anchored that blue line. Brandt Clarke is the younger brother of Graeme Clarke. He gives Ryan Suzuki a quarterback on the power play and becomes the best defender the Barrie Colts have had since Aaron Ekblad.

Brandt Clarke had 35 goals, 78 assists, and 113 points in the GTMMHL. Clarke also had 2 goals, 9 assists, 11 points, and a +13 +/- ratio in the OHL Cup with Shane Wright and Brennan Othmann on the top line with him.

Despite being only 16, Clarke has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Brandt Clarke may end up being the top defender in the 2021 NHL Draft if he continues to perform well.

  5. Peterborough Petes: Mason McTavish, C, (2021) F Grade

Peterborough got this pick after failing to sign last years first round pick. Mason McTavish clearly stated prior to the 2019 OHL Priority Selection that he did not want to play for Peterborough and as a result he's exploring options in Switzerland. Even if McTavish played for Peterborough, I don't think he'd do well there since he made it clear he didn't want to play with the Petes.

  6. Windsor Spitfires: Wyatt Johnston, C, (2021) A Grade

The 5-11 152 Wyatt Johnston had 48 goals, 46 assists, and 94 points in 73 GTMMHL games. He also had 5 goals, 8 assists, 13 points, and a +11 +/- ratio in 5 games during the OHL Cup.

The line 1 center on the Toronto Marlboros has everything you want on tape except he just needs to get bigger while filling out his frame. Windsor has a guy who I believe, is capable of being a 2021 first round pick.

Despite being only 16, Johnston has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. Wyatt Johnston is someone who has ability to be great in both the OHL and the NHL.

  7. Sarnia Sting: Benjamin Gaudreau, G, (2021) A+ Grade

The 6-2 165 lb Benjamin Gaudreau already has a better GAA and save percentage then Mackenzie Blackwood when the Barrie Colts drafted him. His 1.13 GAA was unreal. If Gaudreau is that good in the OHL he may be a first round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft assuming he increases his height and adds some weight to fill out his frame.

  8. Hamilton Bulldogs: Ryan Winterton, RW, (2021) A Grade

The 6-0 161 lb Ryan Winterton had 38 goals, 34 assists, and 72 points in 36 games with the Whitby Whitecats. Hamilton drafted a top the top right winger in this class which is why this pick gets an A grade.

  9. North Bay Battalion: Liam Arnsby, C, (2022) B Grade

The 5-10 174 lb Liam Arnsby was a line 2 center behind Shane Wright on the Don Mills Flyers. He can be an effective line 2 center, but I'm not sure he has the upside of a top line center.

Arnsby had 21 goals, 49 assists, and 70 points. He displayed enough leadership to be an alternate captain on the Don Mills Flyers.

  10. Owen Sound Attack: Deni Goure, C, (2021) C Grade

The 5-10 159 lb Deni Goure only had 22 goals, 31 assists, and 53 points. He's someone who projects as a second or third line center at best just based on their ceiling. He can skate fast. My issue is Goure's production is extremely underwhelming for a top 10 pick.

  11. Peterborough Petes: Jon-Randall Avon, C, (2021) C Grade

Peterborough managed to sign Jon-Randall Avon. They made a solid pick by drafting a local on the Peterborough Petes midget hockey team who only had 49 points last year.

  12. Mississauga Steelheads: Ethan Del Mastro, D, (2021) A Grade

The 6-3 185 lb Ethan Del Mastro was the line 1 defenseman that anchored the Toronto Marlboros top line. He was also teammates with Connor Lockhart on that top line.

Ethan Del Mastro will compliment Thomas Harley, the Dallas Stars 2019 first round pick on that top line in Mississauga while Harley continues to improve defensively. Ethan Del Mastro has the size, hands, stick handling, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defesnive awareness, and hockey IQ. You'd like to see him get faster and showcase more explosion, but he's a great skater who checks off most of if not all of the boxes on tape.

Ethan Del Mastro had 8 goals, 36 assists, and 44 points in 2018-2019. He's a talented passer who can shoot effectively on tape. He's more of a defensive defender at this point compared to Clarke who is a two way defender, but the potential to be a two-way defender who learns and grows under a veteran like Thomas Harley is there.

  13. Kitchener Rangers: Francesco Pinelli, C, (2021) A+ Grade

The 6-0 176 lb Francesco Pinelli was the line 1 center on the Toronto Red Wings. He was also the team captain for the Toronto Red Wings in the GTMMHL.

Pinelli carried the Toronto Red Wings to the 2019 OHL Cup Championship game where they lost to an undefeated Don Mills Flyers team 6-5 in overtime. Pinelli had 49 goals, 65 assists, and 114 points in 71 GTMMHL games. He also had 7 goals, 7 assists, 14 points, and a +7 +/- ratio in the 7 game run he had during the 2019 OHL Cup.

Francesco Pienlli has the leadership, work ethic, size, hands, stick handling, passing, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, and hockey IQ. You'd like to see him get faster and showcase more explosion while improving his defensive awareness, but he's a great skater who checks off most of if not all of the boxes on tape.

  14. Guelph Storm: Danny Zhilkin, C, (2022) B- Grade

The 6-1 185 lb Danny Zhilkin is bigger then teammate and line 1 center Wyatt Johnston. His 32 goals, 25 assists, and 57 points make him a quality line 2 center in the OHL and a good line 3 center. He's going to be a second or third line center just based on his production.

  15. Sudbury Wolves: Landon McCallum, C, (2021) C Grade

Sudbury has two good centers in 2020 first round pick Quinton Byfield and Blake Murray anchoring the top two lines. McCallum had 49 points last season and has the production of a third line center. Sudbury is a good fit for McCallum.

  16. Oshawa Generals: Brett Harrison, C, (2021) B Grade

The 6-1 157 lb Brett Harrison was an alternate captain on London Knights Junior Midget Team. Harrison had 42 goals, 21 assists, and 63 points. Oshawa is getting a good line 2 or line 3 center.

  17. Niagara IceDogs: Isaac Enright, D, (2021) C Grade

The 6-0 170 lb Isaac Enright had 7 goals, 21 assists, and 28 points in 2018-2019. Enright is someone who could play on the second or third line. He is not a top line defender at this point though.

  18. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds: Jacob Holmes, D, (2021) B Grade

The 6-0 177 lb Jacob Holmes was a team captain on his junior team. He is a good defensive defender despite only having 7 goals, 10 assists, and 17 points this past season.

  19. Saginaw Spirit: Connor Punnett, D, (2021) B Grade

The 6-1 176 lb Connor Punnett posted 6 goals, 20 assists, and 26 points in 2018-2019. Punnett was also an alternate captain on his midget hockey team prior to being drafted by the Saginaw Spirit.

  20. London Knights: Stuart Rolofs, LW, (2021) B Grade

Stuart Rolofs had 33 goals, 24 assists, and 57 points. Rolofs is someone who can start out on the third line with the London Knights before working his way up to the second line.

  21. Ottawa 67's: Jack Matier, D, (2021) C Grade

The 6-2 174 lb Jack Matier had 10 goals, 12 assists, and 22 points in 2018-2019. Matier is someone who gives Ottawa depth on their blue line. This is a solid pick that warrants a C grade.
