Chicago Cubs Win Critical Game 5 In 2016 World Series

Game 5 of the 2016 World Series took place. Trevor Bauer faced Jon Lester at Wrigley Field.


Jon Lester pitched strike one to Cleveland in the top of the first inning. Lester set the count to 0-2 before pitching a ball to Rajai Davis. Jon Lester struck out Davis for one out in the bottom of the first inning.


Jon Lester had Jason Kipnis at 0-2. Lester did a fantastic job getting ahead in the count. Striking out Jason Kipnis, a Chicago Native on three pitches was critical for the confidence of Jon Lester.


Jon Lester fired two strikes to Francisco Lindor. Lester finally pitched a ball after 5 consecutive strikes. Lester struck out Lindor to retire the side with three strikeouts in the top of the first inning. Lester had 13 pitches and 3 strikeouts in the top of the first inning.


Trevor Bauer pitched two balls to Dexter Fowler. Bauer pitched three consecutive strikes to strike out Dexter Fowler.


Trevor Bauer pitched a ball to Kris Bryant on a 76-mile per hour curveball. Trevor Bauer evened the count with a 93-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Bryant popped up a ball that will cause strike two. Trevor Bauer struck out Kris Bryant.


Anthony Rizzo stepped up to bat. Trevor Bauer pitched a 77-mile per hour curveball to Anthony Rizzo for strike one. Rizzo then pitched two balls to make the count at 2-1. Anthony Rizzo hit a potential home run that was a foul ball. Carlos Santana caught the final out in the top of the first inning. Both Trevor Bauer and Jon Lester had 13 pitches after one inning, but Lester had 3 strikeouts compared to Bauer’s 2 strikeouts.


Jon Lester pitched a pop up to Mike Napoli which Javier Baez caught. Carlos Santana stepped up to bat following that out in the top of the second inning.


Jon Lester pitched a 93-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Anthony Rizzo gets the second out on a pop up.


Jose Ramirez hit a home run. That gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with two outs. Ramirez executed a clutch home run in game 5 of the 2016 World Series.


Brandon Guyer stepped up to bat. Kris Bryant made an incredible out to end the inning. Jon Lester pitched 11 pitches in the top of the second inning. Cleveland led 1-0 after two innings.


Ben Zobrist stepped up to bat. Zobrist hit an out to Brandon Guyer.


Addison Russell stepped up to bat. Addison Russell pitched a 75-mile per hour curveball for strike one. Bauer threw ball one to Russell. Then Bauer threw another 4-seam fastball to Russell to make it 1-2. Bauer pitched two balls to make it a full count. Bauer threw a 95-mile per hour fastball. Russell got a hit to get on base in the bottom of the second inning.


Jason Heyward stepped up to bat. Bauer threw a ball to Heyward on a 93-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Bauer threw another ball to Heyward on a 4-seam fastball to make it 2-0. Heyward watched the count go to 2-1 as Bauer pitched a strike. Bauer pitched a foul ball to Heyward on a 94-mile per hour fastball. Trevor Bauer struck out Jason Heyward.


Javier Baez stepped up to bat. Trevor Bauer pitched a 92-mile per hour 2-seam fastball. That pitch made it 1-0. Bauer pitched a strike to Javier Baez. Bauer pitched a 76-mile per hour curveball to Trevor Bauer. Trevor Bauer got his fourth strikeout.


Trevor Bauer pitched 32 pitches after two innings. Jon Lester pitched 24 pitches in the first two innings, so Lester was ahead in the pitch count even though the Indians led 1-0 after two innings.


Roberto Perez stepped up to bat in the top of the third inning. Jon Lester pitched a ball to Perez on a 90-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Lester went to his 88-mile per hour cutter fastball for strike one. Lester pitched ball two to allow Perez to get ahead in the count. Perez got a called strike on a 90-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Perez hit a pop up that Kris Bryant caught in foul territory.


Trevor Bauer stepped up to bat in the top of the third inning. Jon Lester fired a 90-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Lester threw another strike to Bauer on an 88-mile per hour curveball. Lester threw a 91-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Lester threw a 91-mile per hour 4-seam fastball to make it 2-2. Bauer swung at that foul ball. Bauer swung at another 92-mile per hour sinker. Jason Heyward climbed the wall to make the catch.


Rajai Davis stepped up to bat. Jon Leste pitched a 73-mile per hour curveball for strike one. Davis hit a foul ball to make it 0-2. Lester pitched ball one to Davis on an 88-mile per hour cutter fastball. Lester threw a ball in the dirt on a 75-mile per hour curveball to make it 2-2. Davis hit the ball towards Javier Baez who caught the out. Jon Lester threw 41 pitches after three innings. Lester did a great job keeping his cool in the top of the third inning.


David Ross stepped up to bat. Trevor Bauer pitched a 91-mile per hour 4-seam fastball to make it ball one. Bauer fired two consecutive strikes. Francisco Lindor fired an out to Mike Napoli.


Trevor Bauer got his fifth strikeout when he struck out Trevor Bauer. Dexter Fowler stepped up to bat with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.


Bauer pitched two balls to Fowler. Then Bauer threw a strike to Dexter Fowler. Fowler hit a foul ball to make it 2-2 after Bauer pitched a 93-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Bauer made it a full count with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Brandon Guyer caught the pop up out to end the inning. Trevor Bauer threw 45 pitches through three innings. Bauer only threw 4 more pitches than Lester after throwing 8 more pitches than Lester after two innings.


Jon Lester threw an 88-mile per hour cutter fastball to Jason Kipnis for strike one. Jason Kipnis bunted with nobody on base. The move puzzled me.


Francisco Lindor stepped up to bat. Jon Lester got two quick outs thanks to David Ross and Ben Zobrist in the top of the fourth inning.


Mike Napoli hit two foul balls. Jon Lester was ahead in the count at 0-2 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Lester pitched a ball to Napoli. Lester evened the count at 2-2. Then it was a full count after Lester pitched a 94-mile per hour 4-seam fastball with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. David Ross made the final out despite bumping into Anthony Rizzo. Jon Lester pitched 50 pitches through 4 innings in game 5 of the 2016 World Series. Lester did a great job pitching past Cleveland’s best batters.


Kris Bryant stepped up to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tevor Bauer pitched a ball to Kris Bryant on a 92-mile per hour fastball. Kris Bryant homered to tie the game a 1.


Anthony Rizzo with an on base hit thanks to hitting the ball in the ivy. Trevor Bauer pitched two balls to Ben Zobrist. Addison Russell hit an RBI to bring Anthony Rizzo home. Chicago took a 2-1 lead, and the Cubs loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning.


The Cubs took a 3-1 lead on a sacrifice fly. Chicago led 3-1 after four innings.


Cleveland led off with a double from Carlos Santana. Santana got to third base in the top of the fifth inning.


Cleveland did not score in the top of the fifth. The Indians did score in the top of the sixth inning. That made it a 3-2 game.


Bryan Shaw came in during the bottom of the sixth inning. Shaw retired two batters. Shaw struck out Miguel Montero to retire the side.


Mike Napoli got a single in the top of the seventh inning. Carlos Santana returned to the plate after getting a double in the top of the fifth inning. A wild pitch got Mike Napoli on second base. Santana hit a pop up out in the bottom of the seventh inning.


Aroldis Chapman the Cubs closer came in the top of the seventh inning with one out and a runner on second base. Chapman threw a 101-mile per hour 4-seam fastball to set the count at 2-2. Chapman got the second out of the top of the seventh on a strikeout.


Brandon Guyer got hit by a pitch. That put runners on second and first with two outs.


Roberto Perez stepped up to bat with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Chapman retired the side with his pitch count at 10 pitches. Closers usually fatigue after 10 pitches so it will be interesting to see if Chapman can remain strong over the next two innings.


Rajai Davis got on third base. He was at first base and managed to steal both second and third base. I am amzed Aroldis Chapman struck out Francisco Lindor. Chapman threw 30 pitches through 1 and 2/3 innings.


Chapman retired the side. The Cubs won 3-2. Game 6 of the 2016 World Series will be in Cleveland on Tuesday with Jake Arrieta going up against Josh Tomlin.
