Washington Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon hit a 2 run RBI off of Justin Verlander in the top of the first inning. Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman hit a two run home run off of Stephen Strasburg in the bottom of the first inning.
Both pitchers did phenomenal adjusting after struggling in the the first inning. Both Justin Verlander and Stephen Strasburg pitched 5 scoreless innings.
Kurt Suzuki ignited the Washington Nationals when he hit a home run to give Washington a 3-2 lead. Once his teammates were high fiving him, the rest of the Washington Nationals batters were motivated, fired up, determined to win this game at any cost. From that point, Washington outscored Houston 9-1 in the final three innings.
That home run had a huge influence on this game. Washington now leads this series 2-0 as they head back to Washington on Friday. The Nationals need to finish this series in Washington after winning 8 in a row dating back to game 4 of the 2019 NLDS.
Zach Greinke faces Anibal Sanchez on Friday. Greinke was the better pitcher in the regular season, but Sanchez has been vastly superior in October when it counts. Game 3 will be on Friday at Nationals Park at 8 PM EST on FOX.
