Portland Trail Blazers 2015 Season Preview

Posted By: Chris Ransom on 8/23/2015

Portland is a very underrated squad with great chemistry and outstanding coaching. They could very easily be this years version of the Indiana Pacers in the Western Conference.

Point guard Damian Lillard led the nation in scoring when playing for Weber State. The only team that wanted him was the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland is reaping the benefits of Lillard. He won rookie of the year in 2012-2013 following the 2012 NBA Draft when he scored 19 points per game for the Trail Blazers. Lillard can also get you 6 assists and 3 rebounds per game. In 2013-2014 Lillard posted 20.7 points per game. Lillard averaged 21 points per game last season in 2014-2015.

Lillard was able to grow because he had an awesome supporting cast featuring Wesley Matthews at shooting guard, Nicolas Batum at small forward, LaMarcus Aldridge at power forward, and Robin Lopez at center.

Lillard may be back, but Portland lost 4 other starters. I think the Trail Blazers are about to enter a two-year rebuilding phase. The Trail Blazers had a golden ticket to win a playoff series. The Trail Blazers failed to win one series and losing your other 4 starters outside of Lillard really set this team back.

Portland Trail Blazers 2015-2016 Starting 5 Predictions

Our starting 5 predictions segment will feature a brief one paragraph prediction from 5 of our basketball analysts at Draft Utopia.

Chris Ransom: The Portland Trail Blazers failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity by winning a playoff series.

Jesse Lucas: Portland needs more than Lillard. The Western Conference will be much more competitive now.

Lisa Donovan: Portland could go from first to worst in their division this upcoming season in teh Western Conference.

Brian Bayless: Portland will be a bottom 5 team in the NBA this season. I think the Trail Blazers will be one of the worst teams in the entire Western Conference.

Dax Ember: Unless Damian Lillard averages 25 points per game the Trail Blazers will miss the playoffs. Portland will be a bottom five team in the Western Conference after losing guys like Aldridge and Lopez.

The Verdict: All five us came to a unanimous agreement that the Portland Trail Blazers cannot do it alone. Damian Lillard is a consistent player, but the Trail Blazers need to surround him with more talent after the Trail Blazers lost four starters.
