Evgeni Malkin scored the only goal in the first period. Pittsburgh led 1-0 after one period and led 2-0 after two periods. Dallas was hoping to duplicate Friday Nights performance with another huge third period.
Brett Ritchie got the first goal for the Dallas Stars. That made it a 2-1 game. Jason Spezza scored his ninth goal of the year. That made it a 2-2 game. Antoine Roussel's 12th goal of the year was the game-winning goal late in the third period.
I'm surprised that Dallas came back to win. Not only did they trail the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0 after two periods, they won this game despite having 20 give aways where they turned the puck over compared to Pittsburgh's 4 give aways. Dallas did a very sloppy job passing the puck in the first two periods, but they put everything together in the third period.
The two things Dallas did well were get more shots on goal and outhit the Penguins. While Dallas did not see results in the first two periods, they kept being the more physical team throughout the game and were able to capitalize on their opportunities once thiy scored.
